There's a 20MA in NC that just showed up in the for sale section. It's priced way less than you'll have into this one when you're half done with it. If you don't jump on it you'll be kicking yourself a year from now.

Just sayin...

Yeah I saw that one awhile back. Out of price range. I wanted a boat that was less than a 1,000 for a project. Thanks for the info. Does that year have the glass stringer's?

Pretty much all of them have the glass box stringers from 73ish through the '80s.

Please don't take offense at my sarcasm, I'm only trying to make a point. If that 20 MA is out of your price range, you can't afford to do what you're contemplating on this sceptre unless you're gonna use paper mache' and toothpicks and power it with a paddle.

You might want to add up all the costs of your project and think about it. Whatever cost you estimate for trailer, power, glass cloth, resin, and all the other stuff it's going to take, you can at least double it to get the real cost. And you can take your time estimate and quadruple it. Take it from someone who's been there.

I have trouble crossing the street without releasing many receipts to the wind.

Ah, the ineffable Sandman. Poetic, yet baffling.

I already have a trailer. I wanted a bare boat no engine no nothing. I am in no hurry to get this boat ready. I am still trying to decide if i should leave it like it is or convert it to a CC. All it needs right now is new fuel tank, new transom, bracket, engine, and new paint job. I hope you dont think i ment that it would only cost me 1,000 to restore the boat did you?

No. I just meant that the other CC is only $4,700. You'll have more than that into this one just doing the transom, bracket, paint and power. I'm not picking on you, I just want you to be aware of what you're getting yourself into. We see guys start projects here and then they go dormant for a while, then their partially done project shows up on Craigslist. Don't set yourself up for disappointment is all I'm saying.

I'm in the final stages of my restoration. I've had fun at it, but it's taken about four times as long as anticipated and cost about twice as much. If I had started with a hard budget, I would have ended up as one of those guys that never finished his project.

Good luck with yours. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine.

If you follow my thread you will see the first buy in materials, just to get started was over $700.

A tank alone will be $4-800. It just keeps adding up.

I thought I could get my boat done in 2 years, and now I am on 4.

I thought $25k would complete the project...WRONG!

My advice would be do the minimum have fun or put it back on the market and trade for a CC.

Excellent advice Terry..... and also great above insight by Dave as well...might want to listen and heed their advice!!!

I am an amateur and.....
I am doing the MINIMUM on my 18SF, new fuel tank, painting, fiberglass work, wiring, motor, steering, all hardware.....it all adds up even keeping it simple...I have all receipts and a red rear end from my wife to prove it!!!!
I can only imagine the cost incurred on doing a total modification:eek:...
resell the Sceptre to someone who wants to keep it as a Sceptre and save up your money for what you really want...a 20 that needs some work..you will be happier and LESS broke in the end!
