yep... 1 is 20 the other is almost 18.... but most of my Issues are coming from the ground water reaking havok on a aging pool liner and the 3 large dogs destroying our yard... along with the Rainy cold winter that turned our entire back yard into a mud puddle due to removing trees in the fall last year and not having time for the grass to recover.... and the age of the house.... it just turned into a one thing after another type of year... then came our taxes.... and BAMN just like that it got worse !!! but i am staying possitive !!!

Cayo Costa

As far as I'm concerned Cayo Costa is still an option, but I wanted to see what Conner thought about the location and how it might work for a CSC Gathering. He has been to several gatherings and his opinion would be respected by the group. I, at this point, am only know here as a "goof" with a Keyboard. (Snookerd once accused me of actually having a Sailfish)

Hopefully, Justice Conner Davis will render an opinion, for all to consider, shortly.

In the meantime, based on Island Trader's concerns, in concert with Snookerd's overall Gatherings Program and being a Pinellas County resident, I will reserve a Deep Water Campsite at Ft. Desoto Campground. That way we have a place to tie the boats up even if the water deep water sites are taken by the time a final decision on the November Gathering site is made. If we decide on a different location for the Gathering, the park not refund, but will allow me to move the date to a different time of the year. (I'm actually camping there the week before Long Point, so I'll look more like a homeless guy than usual when I get to LP - but I'll have the hogfish!)

Rusty - I think you are right - a Positive Outlook pays the most dividends in life.

Spent a weekend down at Terry E's place on Cayo Costa. About the only negative I can think of is: you have to get there by boat. Doesn't seem too bad.

Otherwise, its near perfect. The house is big, a very simple, off the grid kind of place, with good cooking facilities, good bathrooms and plenty of place to sleep, assuming you don't want to be extremely private. The dock can accommodate at least 6 or 7 boats, more with some thought. The beach out front is beautiful and should be mostly deserted in October. Fishing is outstanding, inshore and off. Diving ain't shabby. Fresh oysters for the picking, all you can shuck. By next fall, I'm going to find a pen shell bed around there somewhere, outstanding if you have never tried them. You can drive to where someone can pick you up, there are at least two restaurants on the water close, and places to stay on the water close if you want more privacy. There is at least one place where you can leave your vehicle and trailer with no worries about it still being there after a long weekend.

Basicly, my highly biased opinion is that its a great spot.

just mapped the road part ... and it had me launching from the boca grande side ... is this correct ?? It shows 8 plus hours for us to get down there...

cdavisdb 04-04-2014 10:05 PM

Terry comes in from Pineland, or you can launch and have a safe trailer at the north end of Boca Grande.

Rusty, Eldridge Marina is on the north side of Charlotte Harbor in Placida. Conner launched there I think. A lot of locals use the place - good people. Just duck under the swing bridge to Gaspiralla Island and then bring the Opti's up to "Yodel". 5 or 6 miles to the pass then run across the harbor and down the ICW past Cabbage Key another 2 miles, hang a starboard toward Captiva Pass and roll starboard again past the stakes off of Pejuan Cove, ease north just off the docks until you smell the smoked mullet.

It's a hike for you and Kmoose down there but Conner and I were think'in some of our "Starboard Coast" Florida brethren might squirt across SR 78 below the lake and splash in at Pineland or Bokellia south of Peace River and join in the festivities. There are rooms at the Inn on Cabbage Key and cottages with docks there, homes on Upper Captiva, a County Camp ground on the north end of Cayo Costa or our place is open to whoever can put up with the various noises I emit at night. Thankfully, most of the sounds emitted, are drowned out by the sound of waves running down the beach at night.

I'm good with whatever the group decides for a location though; from Cape San Blas to the Marquesas - even that Drillin' Platform you got, out in the Gulf.

Terry-not true....you are doing a great job of carrying the torch for the "has been" CSC Gathering group! I agree we need to lock something in! Cayo Costa or Ft Desoto?? Where does everyone want to be?

DonV 04-05-2014 08:27 AM

Danny and all, I'm good with either. Ft. Desoto is closer for me, however further south is also good. Like it has been mentioned if it is Ft. Desoto we can't sit on our duff too long. Them tourist grab all the spots real quickly.
