Motors went on fairly easy. I have quite a bit of fish work remaining before I do any more mechanical work. More painting, button up windshield, finish harware etc.

Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Hey Jaizzen,
I have been following your work closely. I have an 82 Sceptre and have been doing minor restoration/improvements, but nothing like yours. Your boat looks great. Also, i do alot of diving out of the cedar key/steinhatchee area, although mostly skindiving. Used to dive out of tarpon springs/clearwater/st pete for many years, with the spuc freedive boys. Anyway, you seem to have alot of weight on the transom and the tank storage more toward the stern. When I load down the boat at the stern it rides completely different, especially in the gulf chop, even with the tabs down. Weight more toward the bow really helps the boat move through the waves. Just a thought. Great luck with your boat. Brent |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Good to hear from someone local. I dive, skin and scuba out of the Hatch and Cedar Key everyonce and a while. Mostly the grounds and deeper now though. I know a ton of SPUC's however, I am a member of Team Headhunter a Spearboard Club.
I'm not too sure what you a are saying about the stern. I moved the fuel 8 inches forward and added a large fishbox up front to offset the weight. The tank racks as you know, can slide forward or aft. I figured sliding 6 tanks on each side 6" forward or Aft (by design) will significantly change how the boat sits in the water. I also have a slider that goes between the battery boxes. Are you thinking I'm too stern heavy? I'd certainly like to know. Are you running a similar set up. I've put a ton of thought into setting this thing up. Love to hear from some owners with similar set ups. Thanks again for the help!, Jason |

Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
I've taken some nice ones in deep water this year of of a buddys boat. I think the 400+ lbs of Ice would likely do the trick. I hope :)
I'm positive that this boat will see some larger grouper and jacks. The box was designed to handle 100+pound Jacks and multiple large groupers. Jason Jason |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Jason,
Just by the looks I would say you may be stern heavy, with the two engines, tank rack, fuel tank, and potential divers on board. But the fish box may be of sufficient weight to help move some weight distribution forward. I have a single engine, no tanks and my main load is fish box and divers. Sometimes I have to move the larger divers toward the bow to keep my nose down. In any event, you will have a heavily loaded boat and what concerned me may be a non-issue with you. If you ever get up this way, we may have to hook up for some diving. Brent Heath 352-258-8260 |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Brent, I will give you a call when in the area! Great winter time diving in your area.
I also will have 4 roll controls located in the cabin hole. This would allow me to remove 4 of the tanks from the rear and place them forward and lock into place. It's trial and error. :D I sure do like the open deck. Jason I think I'll slide her off the trailer today and see how she sits unloaded. |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Jason,
The hull design and deck space was the main reason I bought this boat. This model makes a great dive boat. Lots of room for gear and fish. Amazing how much crap we can stuff on the boat. Oh, most of my concern was with actual ride conditions, not so much with how the boat sits at rest. Look forward to meeting up with you sometime. Brent |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
I'll probably be on most of the trips with Jason. He has probably considered this in his lay out and will be placing me in "shotgun" to ensure weight forward in seas. :D
On a more serious note, there is allot to be said for BIG trim tabs. Both J and I have large tabs on our boats to deal with the prevalent gulf head seas. There is no such thing as trim tabs that are to big. If they are not down and correcting trim issues, they are up and providing extra planing surface. I really think that J has circumvented stern weight issues by not opting for a bracket. These boats where originally designed for transom mounted engines and I really feel there will be weight distribution benefits due to his choice. I own a 23 vintage express style boat that has been equipped with a single 250 /Suzie on a long bracket. Sometimes I wonder if the benefits of a full transom and a little extra speed are worth having my boat’s center of gravity moved so far back. It really is evident when I have to use so much tab to shove my bow down in seas. If Jason’s transom works out as well as I think it will, I could see myself having a bracket for sale next year. |

Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Very nice work.....I like a lot of your mods.....especially the big fish box. I'm picking up a '74 Sceptre next week and am looking at some mods for offshore fishing. It already has a bracket. I like the scuppers and raising and sealing the floor. I'll have to wait to inspect the boat to see what has to be done. I guess there are no issues with the epoxy bonding to the PVC?? That's surprising...
Did you use a mold to make the scupper tubes??? Again....great work.... |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Thanks for the comments.
I did not use EPOXY resin anywhere in this build. Didn't like the price. The poly resin bonds real well to the PVC. During your project, if you need a specific photo, give me a call, I have a ton that are not posted. Jason |

Found a deal that I could not pass up, Seacraft has been sold. Not too worry, it went to close friend. Only took one day for him to get the motor installed.

Wow...is that an Intrepid???

Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
1bayouboy,
Good guess, but not an intrepid. Not gonna be real easy to ID. I bet someone here can nail the ID. Here is a hint, it's a 1970 hull and I paid 9k for the hull and trailer. :) Jason |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Jason-
Your right I can ID it. I actually paused on it's ad in Louisiana on craigslist. Heck of a deal. If I recall.............The boat was in Ft. Lauderdale and moved to the other business location. "All hard work done" New transom, ect. It's a 28 Formula/Arronow hull with a 10ft beam. The builder's name begins with a C.........??? I can't find the Ad from last night. Nice find! Drive it like you stole it! Because you really did!!! :D :D Hey, are your trailer bunks under your transom?? |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Snookerd!!!
I knew that someone on here would have had to have seen this boat. It was quite a Gamble, leaving after work, driving to Mississippi to look at a boat that was located in the Katrina disaster area. I looked over the photos 1000 times and called the guy. I believe everyone was scared it had been swamped and tore up int he flood. Well, it had not, if fact, it was and is in supreme condition. The hull is about an inch thick on the bottom. It has awlgrip which was done right. New Stainless fuel tank, New fuel hose, New Bilge pumps, New trailer tires. I am very excited about this boat. When I saw the boat, I simply could not believe that they were letting it go so cheap. Unfortunatly, in the area, they had no choice. I felt bad, but they were happy to see the money. The hull is a 1970 Cary. Designed by Arronow and built by Elton Cary. Completely restored. Snookered, I did steal it, but the deal did allow me to sell my seacraft at a low price to a real friend and allow me to upgrade. The seacraft still stays close and allows me to dive off of it when ever I would like! |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Jason-Incredible boat. Those like new 250's have a slightly bigger hull to push now..............I bet that are great for weight and power on that hull. Good to hear about the Tsunami staying close to home ;)
|
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
The trailer bunks are 6" short of the traomsom. I asked the guy to load it so that it had some tongue weight due to having no motors. Notice the wench stand, the boat is about 6" short.
Jason |
Re: 74 Seacraft Tsunami
Ok, so your back 6" on the trailer farther than you will end up, when it's pulled forward, next time you load it.

Nice boat. Post some performance and fuel numbers when you get a chance to run the thing a while. Are you gonna do some diving off the new rig? Thanks
