Fantastic! Find a nice sandy spot, so if Jim Beam knocks me down, I can sleep in peace without the tide or coons carrying me away. ;)

Ramp deal fell through, guy wanted $50, in & out + dockage we wouldn't use-PlanB-- I now have my phone # posted in my sig so call me, I really don't like typing anyway.
Guys coming from the north ie G Ville,Ocala I 75 to St Rd 56 (new road between 52/54) then come in W on 54 to US 19-north to the Pithlacotte River-ramp is next to Hooters 1 block off US19 in Port Richey, that is if camping. I think Ken is the only one coming from I-4 and I have him covered. Capt Matt I guess the Suncoast for you, I have been told 52 coming in is a real pain, so 19 down might be just as easy, as 54 is south of the ramp-Ok for the other guys. Here is a link to a map- 54 is there and the ramp is on the river at US19 right at the tippy top

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Now for the good news Tabman (Tom) from Bennett Trim Tabs
has agreed to donate a couple sets of tabs for the event.
I would like some input on a raffle so that 100% of the proceeds would go to the CSC site. This raffle will be open to everyone even if you are not coming to the Anclote gathering. He asked how many would be in attendance and that
who ever the winners were would be able to get the proper size set for there boat direct from Bennett.
At this point we have 53 confirmed for Anclote.
If all 1818 CSC members bought just one chance at say $5.00
That would be $9090.00. Now we all know that wouldn't happen. So here lies the dilemma. Limit it too the first
100=$500. The first 200=$1000. You should be able to buy as many chances as you like. You get the idea. I would be willing to handle having the tickets printed and handling the payment.
This is a great offer from Bennett, they have always been very supportive of CSC. What we could do is have the drawing on Saturday April 28th. We could also use part of the proceeds to buy some additional SeaCraft emblems that
65Bowrider is having made just to have on hand for some of the members that have missed there chance. Like I said HELP!
See ya, Ken

I actually call her The Martha Stewart of Yachting & Camping, it is amazing she knows where everything is, not just the bag or box but where it is in the bag or box. She also has fine tuned bringing stuff to the island pre-prepared so I thought she could give some good ideas plus we really don't need toooo much food, somebody has to take it home.
She's a bigger fan of Bobby Fay since he does so much grill stuff.
The other aspect of this, since your wife is doing the shots there won't be as many compromizing shots of you. :D

Just me coming, and I'm planning on camping. No wife or GF currently (that's my other current project along with the '65 bowrider LOL). It's ok for now though; more time for fishing. I'll need to catch a ride out since I won't have my boat with me.

No problem let me know your itinerary so I can possibly make it easier, by the way those beaches have lots of eye candy that time of year, maybe you'll find more than you bargined for, you have to troll where the fish are :D
Tampa Int. would be best and they have airport shuttle service availible to New Port Richey, just a thought maybe have them take you to the hotel the Moselys are staying, see the link above-you will at least have a bar until we can get there :D

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Well went on the recon today, lots of sand has moved around but the Northend it will be, the bathroom has been spiffed up and is straight up ( not a 30'angle) :D and very clean including a magizine rack, didn't smell either. We checked out some likey spots and I'm sure it will work great. The picture I posted of the sand point is the target, the smaller boats can get in the swash and the 23's may be nearer the point for more water and not having to deal with the bar, but its a short walk, like 100 yards. Had a painfully steady North wind at 10-water temp 70.7 chilly but going up the beach to the tree's was really nice and found a great spot for a central gathering, I also don't think we will have to deal with a north wind that time of year except a seabreeze for a short time. The swash was pretty deep, thigh deep at mid tide but the getting across the bar at low may be an issue for a 23- the tides that weekend are a low at 4 AM and 4PM so we can live with that no sweat but at low just anchor 100 yds down the beach. Talked with Ranger Chris and he's aware were coming but they really don't care just wanted registration numbers for the CG if were lost at sea He also mentioned no dogs allowed on the island but I will deal with that personally :D

Forgot mention its still still just gorgious out there, ran through some sand patches coming up on the pass and they looked shallow, looked and it was 6+ ft, water clarity is close to the keys at times since the north end is away from the Anclote River.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

I flew over Anclote today. Beautiful. Saw a huge school of mackerel nearly 1/8 of a mile across less than a mile to the NE, moving N. (I think they were mackerel - hard to tell from 300 ft at 80 mph) There were several school of baitfish within a couple of miles as well. The water was very clear, large fish like sharks easy to see, as well as several dolphin in the shallows of the sandbar N of Anclote. Couldn't fly low right over the island, it's not allowed. Ya' gotta maintain 2000 ft right over the island. But there were about 8-10 boats at the NE corner of the island.

eggsuckindog 03-14-2007 12:24 AM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Yep the first reports came this weekend, white bait is thick, kings should be very availible in April as well, to tell you truth there will be so many mackerel they will be a pain in the azz. Those big open bars hold alot of Cobia also as they go north. Snook will be all over the beaches at that time as well, just walk to the water. Tarpon will be around but they seem very hard to get to bite up there and grouper on the shallow rock piles within 10-15 miles 35 to 50'. Some very serious sharks, if your into that, very serious. Frank they fly about 200 ft all weekend up there, the little amphib planes, I don't think the ranger has any anti-aircraft batteries set up :D

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Egg, I'm with Fr. Frank on this one, restricted flight patterns have gotten serious since 911.
Just try to get with in restricted Kennedy Space Center area and see what happens. Those F-15's come out of nowhere. Pilots license are to precious to jeopardize.
Ken

eggsuckindog 03-14-2007 01:52 AM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

It has been uninhabited for 50 yrs until the ranger went out there 3yrs ago, drop a 2000lb bomb on it and you'd kill a couple coons and a 3 possums?????? and since Frank didn't do a low level bombing run with a 2000lb bomb, all of which will be thrilled to see you and your abundant food stuffs by the way :D

I don't think a comparision to Kennedy Space Center is appropriate but some Gov. employee thought it was a good idea :D

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

I'm all about that hard bottom action. I'll bring plenty of trolling and deep jigging gear and a big kill'box . I'm excited :D to fish (both offshore and nearshore) up there while we are there. I've never had an opportunity to fish the northern section of West Central. Always knew that swiss cheese bottom was closer in up there. Ya gotta make a 25-30 mile run to get to that natural hard bottom off Anna Maria.

Fr. Frank 03-14-2007 01:35 PM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

The flight restrictions over Anclote Key are a minumum altitude of 2000' MSL (above mean sea level) within 1000' horizontal distance of Anclote Key State park. The park boundary also extends out into Gulf waters 1/4 nautical mile (1500') in all directions. I kept to those distances for 3 reasons: 1, it's the law, and I am a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol. 2, I had requested radar flight following from Tampa Center, and my exact altitude and location was being reported to the tower every 4 seconds through my transponder. And 3, there was a Coast Guard C-130 flying around within 5 miles of the island at an altitude of 300'-500', at times actually passing directly beneath me while I was at 2000'. They seemed to be circling the very same school of fish.

Hey guys, I've seen a lot of schools of fish from the air over the years, but only once have I seen a school of fish larger than this. That was back in the mid 90's off of Palm Beach, when I saw a school of ballyhoo that was 3-5 MILES long, and some half-mile wide. This school off Anclote was undoubtedly numbered in the hundreds of thousands or millions of fish, not just hundreds or thousands or ten-thousands. It was absolutely gorgeous to see.

Time to respool my reels.

It will small ledges and rocks piles along with low relief live bottom, much different than your used too, but trolling is a good plan and I have plenty of #'s to share.

Agh, I plan to bring the hooka rig, go down and spear chuck
what ever the the group desires. Hook and line may be to time consuming. If there are ledges there should be some good grouper in the holes. I'm a redneck diver. wrestle them out with the gloves on and bring them to the top.
