Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Not sure what was decided on the gathering, but I am heading across out of Stuart first week of August for some Lobster and Grouper. I will clear at Walkers (or maybe Spanish) and stay in Foxtown. I may make the same trip July 4th but not sure on that one yet.
If anyone is interested in tagging along let me know another boat or 2 is always nice, it is even better when they are Seacrafts. |

Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
This got me thinking about next summer.
I want to make the trip. Looking to go late July/early Aug. I'm spending the summer in the Keys and can Trailer to the east coast. Any interest? |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
I'll be there

Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Funny.... I just got back from a 10 day trip to the Abacos I did not get enough fishing due to the wind, and of course I was only planning 5 days but had to wait unil I could cross. Still a good time.
Now for next summer.... I always go first week in August because Lobster season opens the 1st. 2 advantages to this, the obvious lobster for dinner and snacks and the locals are all out working so less headaches. With that, I will put a trip together for Early August next year and would be happy to have a few boats tag along. I could help with rooms as well but I do not stay in a very resort like area. I go there to fish and my focus is on that. Basically I look for a roof and a shower. Hot water is optional. There is a place to eat, a small bar, and a dock where I normally go. The town is called foxtown. There is a resort being built on one of the Keys and talking to the folks who are doing this it should be open by august so there may be a nicer place to stay in the area. Of course Green Turtle is always an option as well and a short run from Fox Town. I can say the past 5 years I have made the crossing first week in August and have not had to adjust for weather at that time. Sept/October are not so lucky though. |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
I agree with Rainmaker, I go late July into 1st Aug, where is that resort they are bulding, haven't heard of it, anyhoo, will be packing up the trawler and heading over 3rd week of July again, had a great two weeks out there this past summer.

Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
They recently broke ground. It will be on Fish Cays off of Little Abaco. It looks like they will do apartments and timeshares along with some weekly and nightly rentals. There is plenty of work to be done so it will surprise me if they are ready by summer but they say it will be ready.
We will need to get in touch just before you leave, maybe we can get together for a cocktail or 2 while we are there. |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
I was hoping to take the trip the week of mini lobster season next July. The Keys get crazy then and I need to bailout. All I need is a roof, fresh water to bathe and drink. So, Foxtown sounds good to me! Someone to share a cold one and swap fishtails is a bonus.
As time gets closer everyone interested should firm up the plans. |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
What are the dates of mini season? If I remember it is normally the last week in July. Perhaps I can move my trip up a week. (Of course that will mean no lobster for me since I don't dive in Florida) but weather should be nice and fishing is always good.
Maybe we can get a few folks to make the trip. I can certainly put this together for anyone who would like to leave from Stuart. I should be able to get some rooms held for us and will be glad to have some company on the crossing. |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Susan just married into the Currie clan from Green Turtle so we may be an option too
|
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
I am always trying to make this trip happen as well..............
|
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Lets put it together.....
I am looking at Thursday July 29 leaving St Lucie inlet and return Apprx Friday August 6. Of course the weather will play a role as we get closer to the time but July/August are normally good as long as no Hurricanes are in the area. If we go those dates who will make the trip? How many rooms would you need? |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
I would be looking to leave around the 22nd or 23rd of July, returning around the 30th.
If nothing else, maybe we can get together for a oouple of days of fishing. |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
As we were talking last night, I was wondering what the situation is for room availablity in the summer. That is apparently the season and I will have the ability to sleep on our 20 CC, I know damn cleaver bastad I am. What I kinda wanted to know is will we have the ability to drive up to say Green Turtle Club and get a room without making reservations months in adavnce - keeping in mind the current economy and recent changes in the fish regs over there - these are game changers. Also what is say the room charge at Foxtown, a little hotel in New Plymouth apparently isn't any cheaper than the Club but Susan wants to visit the new relatives kinda, which free's me up for fishing which is a really good thing. If I can get a room every couple days sure makes life easier - I will share my ingenious sleepin set-up for a 20CC after some initial testing but it appears a queen size will work fine and storage isn't an issue either.

Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Well if this summer is anything like the last, rooms will not be a problem, lots of them, end o July looks good!!!!
|
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
I can talk to the room situation at Fox Town but not Green Turtle.
Rooms go for $75 a night with dock space and can sleep 3-4 people. Most have a double and some add a single bed, I normally bring an air bed and 2 crew members (total 3 adults). They do have a web site: http://www.ronaldsrentals.com/index.htm When looking at the rooms there is only 1 with the loft as in the photo and the photos are from some time ago. As far as availability, I normally let them know I am going to be there but never had an issue getting a room. Late July and Early Aug are the busy time but even with that it is normally not a problem. For this one, I would take a quick inventory in late May to firm up those that are still making the trip and then call and reserve the needed rooms. At the same time if we may need an extra for a night or 2 I can find out how full they will be. Last year they had 2 boats + mine when I arrived and 2 more pulled in as I was leaving. With that, there were rooms avaialble the entire time I was there. Foxtown seems to be the overflow for the area around Walkers (Grand Cay) and as the hotels up there fill up folks run down to Foxtown. I think there are 12 rooms where I normally stay. There are also a few houses out on one of the Keys that you can rent for $1500 a week but I have never stayed there. The lack of HVAC seems to be an issue for me. Bottom line, in May/June we should know what the room situation is based on how many folks will travel with us and how many folks have reserved a room outside of our group. |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
That looks pretty nice, we're pretty basic too - I was thinking of stopping up there on the way to Green Turtle and not try that run in 1 day. Then on the way back kinda bumping along a couple places.

Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Well put Danny. With you, Caymanboy and other experienced "crossers" onboard, I have a good feeling about pulling this off in `10. Not sure I trust my rig enough yet, but I haven`t posted my winter? to do list yet. Yes, wiring is on it. Primary is fine ,but I still have a ground gremlin who moves more than Bin Laden. Can drones find gremlins?

Oly,
Salty electronics has galaxy 6 ft whips on sale for 39 clams. Want one? Hard to tell in the pic., is that all teak? I can get you a great price on Pro Tec Turf if you wanna go synthetic. :) GFS |
Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Yep, the davit be a wee bit small, it lifts the boat I'm taking the pic from, got a good towline for the SC, mother ship is FRP hull with wood superstructure (slowly turning to epoxy!) decks are teak and are slowly being removed, cored and glassed over. All other trim is teak, hence NO teak on the SC! Oh, and on the (new red boat)? Yes, someone teaked the floor and console, I can't imagine the weight it added!! That boat is down to the stringers, liner, cap and all off.

Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009
Caymanboy,
Do you have any braces holding the hull together. When I took the cap off my 18 it really spread apart. It was a real pain to get pushed back together. Do you have any photos of the coral reefer |
Bahamas Gathering 2012 - Updated '08 Thread
After the Bahamas pics and videos from Rainmaker and Caymanboy, it has been brought up by Islandtrader and his high performance 21, that there may be a serious attempt to make a 2012 Bahamas trip. Soooo, we may as well hijack his possibly private trip with his wife, ect., ect. and all pile in for this one! We have Sea Masters running (Brian) and getting redone (Ken) as well as at least 2 new FLA 21's getting completed (Terry and hopefully 65bowrider). I'm ready to roll on this one...........anyone else??????

Re: Bahamas Gathering 2012 - Updated '08 Thread
Do I need to tell you I am in.... I also would like to suggest a week that includes Aug 1 since that is the start of Bahmas Lobster season and what fun is it without getting some crawfish for breakfast/lunch/dinner a couple of days.

Let's make it happen. We have to hit the start of the Bahamas lobster season. I'm sure Chuck, Denny, Sandy, Duane, Brian, Ken, Dixon, Dave (Seavette), Skip and Carla, ect. would be in too. I only know how to spear lobster with a sling anyways . Who else????
What's the itinerary suggestions??? |

I've stayed (w/boat) in Jupiter several times and am familiar with that inlet, if that's possible. Is there a place I might leave my truck/trailer if we can make this??
