Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Looking good, I saw the console sitting outside the homestead today. What motor are you going with?
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Yea I had it down at Bob's so he could use it for measurements. Its sitting in front of the garage waiting for the boat to show up! (and I am putting the radar on it) The 225 Oceanpro is going back on, until it blows up.... I dont trust it to say the least.
Next time stop in if I am around! |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Sounds like it's going well...I need to stop by Bob's and say hi soon. Can't wait to see the finished product...put down the refreshments and keep going
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
That bracket is huge :D Your waterline will probobly be where your old bottom paint is. That tub will float the 225 Johnson no problem. Do the scuppers come out above that old waterline? You doing a 5" extension on the OceanPro?
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
You really think the water line will be the same?? I go back and forth on that one. I want to run the motor a bit before dropping another $500 on the extension kit. I figure I can run it up for a while and see how it does (ruins a crank bearing or not) before making a decision.
The big unknown is the fact I moved 60gal of fuel 3ft forward(both tanks moved up). I know the bracket will float the motor no sweat, but how high will it be with the boat loaded? Nobody knows untill its loaded and floating! I can say, without notching the bracket's flange they are as high as I could get em. This pic will give you an idea relitive to the orignal waterline. The oval scupper cutout is 1/2in below the flange in this picture, just enough for the 'trim' of the scupper door to fit. My scupper doors. http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/brow...pair-130335-/4,8103.html http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P7190038.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P7180037.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P7180036.jpg |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Looks like it is coming along!
I like he idea of bolting the console in to the lip verses through the deck. What is the lip material? What is the configuration of the transom? I am trying to decied on my 23 configure I have the two outside area as well as two big doors in the center that is just open to the bildge. What are you planning on for power? |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
I'm curious as to how the 25 inch motor runs on the 30 inch bracket....please keep us posted
strick |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
The U shaped wood is just 2X4PT shaped to fit. The console has a slight angle to it. It should fit tight.
I built my transom with the overhang, instead of an inside 'wall' because I have big feet and like to tuck my toes under there. This way you can 'belly up' to the transom cap instead of having to turn sideways. There are plenty of guys who went with 2-3 doors across there, and a solid wall, just not what I wanted. I will be using my 225 Oceanpro to start for power, I also have a line on a 250 Etec with short hours, but its not in the budget this year (until the older motor blows up) The 25in motor will get run and see how it works, if it does stupid things (porpoise etc) then Ill put the extension on there. It got wet when the last boat sank on the beach, and the lower 2 carbs got wet. They shot the crank with salt, and it locked up slightly. I rebuilt the carbs, ran it on overoiled fuel, fogged it, and its not locked up now (5 months of sitting later) I dont trust the longevity. I dont have good luck with things like this. I am sure the bearings will wipe out of it after 2 min of run time. If not, then Ill run it the rest of the season and replace it later. |

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
If it locks up . . . keep JJ (hermit) in mind for the carcass. what year is the motor?
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Its a 94 and I am planning on running it overoiled for a while, along with ditching the VRO (That got wet too) to start.
Yea I would love to sell it good running condition for a little bit more $$ but if it lets go, he will be the first one to hear about it! :D Well, second to everybody else on the beach when I start letting the 4letter words fly. Boats all masked off and getting shot tomorrow and Monday!! |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Picked it up the other day, and dropped the Top on it! Then tied it down for the tropical storm that's coming..
http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8270072.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8270071.jpg Putting the bilge hatch on to keep the rain out of there http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8270075.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8270074.jpg The floor on the mako had sagged a little... about 1/2in I got a fix for that I think. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8270073.jpg |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
I hope you do ok with the storm!
I have never seen another 23 with the fish box there. Mine is located under the leaning post. Do you still have a compartment in front of the console? I have the step up bow compartment then the fuel tank all the way back to just behind the console. |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
The storm is almost by us now! Its raining everywhere in the NE but cape cod... go figure.
That fishbox came from in front of the console, and I moved it back under the leaning post to slide the fuel tanks up. I still have the casting platform box too. |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Glad you made out ok. It could have been much worse! I got to spend some time in cape cod this summer for the first time, I would love to spend the summers there!
When you moved the fish box, it came out as a whole and you just reglassed it back in? Does it just seat on the stringers? Where does it drain? Mine drains in to the buldge which is all open from behind the fish box up to the transom. The PO just put in flush doors where the engine box was once. I have been thinking about trying to move it back some more. I would like to put in a new leaning post with cooler below it on slides then have the fish box just aft of that with bilge access from doors vertically on the inside of the transom. But I still need to try and figure out a live well. Is there a live well on your boat? I have never been able to find where the factory live wells were in pictures or old literature |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Just got back on after having no power for 3+ days. Made a little progress.
Ill try to answer a couple questions. 1. The box was removed with a 2-3in lip around it (beyond where the cover would sit) I had to grind some of the core off it and then stuck it to the bottom of the deck panel before installing the deck. 2. The hull is a little deeper forward more, so I had to take the core out of the box and add more glass (lost about 1/2-3/4in that way) On installing the box, the center stringer needed to be notched ~3/8in and reglassed to allow for box clearance. It now sits directly on the center stringer. (as it did factory up front) 3. There is aprox 2in between the sides of the box and stringer boxes, thats the easy part! 4. I have the front casting platform fish box, and the rear one plumbed together w/1.5in hose and both go to a macerator pump for the end of the day rinse out. 5. I started building a livewell, but decided it was too much water on deck (close to 500lb above deck, and taking up space) so I scraped it and I am going with Tuna tubes over the stern, above the bracket. I wanted to have the MOST space one deck as I could and trying to keep that in mind with any changes I make in the plan. Got the bracket on the last couple days and all sealed up. Threw on the Seacraft logos, installed the drain plugs and polished up the hull vents. Ill hang the motor in the next couple days after the sealant has set up and drop it in the water. It will be the first time in YEARS that boat has seen the water I am pretty psyched! http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8300078.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8300077.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P8300076.jpg |

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Yea I gota get rid of the Mako part, probly keep the shark for the hell of it. I NEED a CSC sticker to put on there now! Hint hint!
 As of lst night I put the plugs in, it would actually float! Once I get the motor hung ill dip it and check the water line. |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
I have those vents on my 25 Seafari. Be careful. Mine have sharp edges and I sliced a finger open a while back while washing the boat. I took a little dremel burr to it to dull the edges ;)

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Yep learned that lesson the hard way too, while I was polishing them!
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Drain plugs are in, brackets completely sealed up, motors dropped on and bolted down, hydro steering is starting to come together. Boat and trailer tried to do a wheelie when we dropped the motor on! Gota get some fuel in the front tank for sure.

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
based on the picture... is your shaft long enough? Do you have a 20" or 25" shaft? Not trying to criticize just curious as well. I want to add a bracket to my boat an want to understand the shaft requirements.
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
what are you going to do for a rub rail?
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Going with the white plastic and stainless insert, its over in the mulch bed just past the boat. I need an extra pair of hands to put it on easily so its been left off for a while.
The motor is the one off my old boat, 225 evinrude I need to make it run first and see if its going to last for any length of time. It is a 25in shaft the plan is to buy the extension to make it a 30 if it turns out to be OK. If not, I will repower and I have only lost the time to mount it up and check it out. |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
wildman let me know if u need some help with rub rail im right up the street, send a pm.

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Eyes I will definitely. This week is pretty packed with work, but I am hoping to get some stuff done in the evenings after it cools down a bit.
Well, big milestone, IT FLOATS! Dropped it in the pond at high tide this evening, scuppers are 2+in above the water, outter most chine is about 1in ABOVE the water. No water in the bilge, all the fittings, bolts, and thru hulls are tight. The boat has no fuel in it (-725 lb) but all the major pieces are on it. Top is not completely bolted down so I have it strapped down for trailer ride over there. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P9050082.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P9050083.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P9050081.jpg |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
She will sit down real nice when you get some more weight in her. Looking good  The spray rails were a wise decision.

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
hey strick have you used spray rails or been on a boat with them i have the same ones on my project savage im dying to find out and see how good they are. and pipe dream is coming alone very nice great looking boat
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
WILDMAN ,YOU'VE DONE REAL NICE WORK. THE BOAT HAS REALLY COME A LONG WAY. I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST SC 72 CC. I'M JUST STARTING TO FIGURE OUT THESE SCUPPERS. IN YOUR LAST POST YOU SAID THE SCUPPERS WERE 2" ABOVE THE WATER LINE. DURING RESTORATION DID YOU RAISE THE DECK. ALSO WILL I SEE THIS BOAT DURING THE COMM. BASS SEASON NEXT YEAR.
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
I am really itching to see how the spray rails work (both for 'lift' and for spray) thanks strick!
The floor is just like factory, right on the stringer boxes, except I needed to add a 1/2in strip of plywood for 'pitch' so they drained off to the outside. You will DEFINITELY see this boat out for comm bass next year. I hope to get a couple nice tuna days in THIS year! |
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
THANKS FOR THE FEED BACK. I'VE USED BALL SCUPPERS ON A 23 SEA OX BUT THAT WAS AT THE WATER LINE DO THESE WORK UNDER THE HULL
|
Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
I've never had spray rails nor have I been on a boat with them but they usually get good reviews. Having owned the same boat as Wildman What I can say is that you will get some spray blown back into the cockpit on a windy day.

Re: 23 CC minty green! Pipe Dream?
Because of all the wind and rain (and work) last week I only got a little bit of work done on the boat. All the lettering is on for starters.
http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P9120085.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P9120084.jpg |
Heres a few rigging pictures. The weather sucks so its been slow going. I have a buddy whos doing all the nice neat wiring.
This is where we are at after this weekends work. I have the next 'to order' list and thats my project for the rest of this evening. [8D] Rub rail is all done http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA010114.jpg All the pumps are mounted and mostly plumbed http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA020115.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA020116.jpg And the wiring is getting close, ran about 250ft of wire today, connected almost all the switches in my large panel. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA020117.jpg |
Wiring is just about finished up, the lack of daylight after work is bad to say the least....
All the lights, pumps, etc are all hooked up (and all plumbed except for livewell). I gota get another 4switch panel, and it will all work! I was out last night under the spreader lights making up the fuel manifold This week we hook up the motor adjust cables and run the thing finally! That is if the weather holds... There is still a whole list of things to buy this winter and the T-box still needs to be wired correctly, but I feel like the list is getting smaller. Pics to follow this evening. |
What fuse plate are you using if u dont mind ?
|
that IS some nice neat wiring. i wish i had paitence to do it like that. on the bright side all my circuits work.
|
The boat is still a mess, zip tie ends, leaves in the bilge, hydro steering oil drips, once all this stuff is done its getting a good scrubbing. The motor turned over by the starter last night, first time in a WHILE, and its not stuck so theres a good start! Hydro steering is bleed out...
but I hooked up the hoses backwards, one step forward one step back. Quote:
Blue seas switch panels with built in breakers, Blue seas buss bars, ACR, etc. The bilge pumps, Ttop, have their own dedicated breakers in the rectangle box on the right. Its hard to see the labels in the pictures. I have swapped out all the fuses for water proof booted breakers in this boat. The plywood on the right is just temprary as the orignal wood in the console is beoyond junk. I will glass in a new piece at some point and re screw the loom. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180129.jpg Fuel manifold. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180128.jpg Bilge picture, the fish box plumbing has been finished, this was right after the wiring was done. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180126.jpg Wash down pump, and hose coiler, mounted inside corner box, hidden away, that box will be 'dry' storage for dock lines rod leashes, etc. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180125.jpg Thru hulls for pumps, and rear hull vents went on. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180123.jpg Spreader lights (no flash) http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180131.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180122.jpg Over all shot with ladder and flash http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180121.jpg I am not real happy with this, but if anybody has any suggestions how to make it a little neater, and semi water proof that would be great! http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/PA180134.jpg I have to say I really like these pump auto switches, they were suggested to me by a boat builder buddy of mine. Unaffected by oil and debris, the have a green light on the top when in the 'ready' position' Easy to test, and wont get stuck in the UP position. http://www.boatownerswarehouse.com/b...cfm/4,655.html |
You can use pvc pipe coming out of the cowl that will fit inside your rigging hose. Years ago we would heat pvc with a heat gun and close the cowl on it to form it. You can also use a seperate Cable Clam for the control cables coming out of the bracket so you don't have to cut into the rigging hose. I use one for the steering hoses as well. Since you have two holes for the steering thru hull fittings in the bracket already you could remove them, use a union to connect the two hoses and put two cable clams, one for the control cables and the other for the steering hoses using the same holes enlarged.
