Time for Painting

Finally got the weather to paint some stuff. Pictures.
We used Alexseal for all fairing, primers and topcoats.
White is Cloud White.
Blue is Atlantic Blue (Carolina Blue).

Funny how the console and leaning post look identical in person, but the difference in lighting...

Ed 03-01-2016 04:27 PM

Looks great. Nice job. I especially like your custom leaning post.

JohnC 03-01-2016 04:33 PM

Looks great! You and your crew do very nice work.

FAS 03-01-2016 08:46 PM

came along way, lookin awesome!

In looking at the deck, two things come to mind that we learned about hatches on this build.

First was to make your own hatch lids. Its very easy. Just get some melamine backed plywood or make your own. Its been described elsewhere in detail. They are light and strong and can be made to any size..

Second are the hatch gutters. Just use Coosa. It is strong and you can make them large enough and the flexibility in this method is incredible. Thanks to Bills 106 (at Lightning Yachts, Jarrett Bay Industrial park) for the tutorials on this method.

Hatches are just not that hard now. They used to be a bitch.

Some more pictures-I wish you could better order pics. It takes about 10 clicks to move a picture from an iPhone to this site.

In the previous pictures, the decks and gunnel had topcoat and in these they have had non skid applied.

We followed Alexseals instructions and mixed an equal part of fine and coarse sand together. It came out to my liking. A few more hull picts too.

We installed the hatches finally. I like the way the came out. The forward most hatch is the only original one-it was balsa cored but now has divinylcell. I now wish we had replaced that on too. It was a bitch to fix and its so heavy compared to the others we made.

I must have a windlass for my bottom fishing and have plans to mount it onto this piece of teak that is sitting on the bow. Thinking Pro fish 700.

Blackfin26 03-22-2016 08:13 PM

Correct...Sick. Nice job.

sidelock 03-22-2016 08:45 PM

She's certainly going turn some heads Chris ! I like the idea of the toe kick in the transom. Looking forward to meeting you at Harkers in October and hope to see the boat in person. Hope the weather cooperates this time, we got blown out for an entire week last year.

Billybob 03-23-2016 07:17 AM

Beautiful - Well done!

flyingfrizzle 03-23-2016 09:15 AM

Wow, looking real good.

FAS 03-23-2016 08:16 PM

This post needs more respect, giving the boats we all love well needed rebuilds and reconstruction, Watsup?

Boatboy6 03-23-2016 10:21 PM

Couple of more pictures.
Sliding cooler. Will make custom one, but you get the idea.
We put inserts in T top and shown in third photo is the documentation so when we topcoat we will know where to put Outrigger hardware.
Last is topcoat on top of hardtop. We have since put non skid on it.

wattaway2 04-23-2016 09:55 AM

Great work how light is the t-top turning out?

chriselk 06-21-2016 12:52 PM

I did not weigh it. It is definitely heavier than canvas (duh). We may eventually put in a cobia tower or change the top, so we did make it strong.

Beautiful boat! Great Job on your resto. In the picture of the fuel filter it looks like the fuel bypasses the filter. Shouldn't the bulb hose come out the other side thats plugged?

chriselk 06-25-2016 06:15 PM

You can do it either way. I cant get a picture of the top, but there are arrows and they supply plugs. so it can go in one side and go out the other or the same side. hope that explains. I do like these mar pac ss fuel filter set ups. used them on two other boats and so far have not rusted. they are not that expensive either if you look around.

FAS 06-26-2016 05:57 AM

came a long way,First class job....Get out and let'r rip!

flyingfrizzle 06-27-2016 07:37 AM

One Hell of a Job! The boat came a long way from last time I seen it. Top notch rebuild. All that hard work pays off now. Cant wait to see how she rides. She should do nicely the way you set it up. If your ever down my way one day with the boat we can do some big drum fishing off of Hobucken once the 50 plus inch fish start showing up.

shine 06-27-2016 08:51 AM

Very pretty and very functional! Congrats

chriselk 07-02-2016 05:47 PM

Shine, a lot of ideas and info came from your old build. Thanks.

Double time 07-27-2016 07:45 AM

I started looking at this last night and made it all the way through just now. Absolutely stunning finished product and impressive ingenuity along the way. Well done.

Awesome rebuild!!

chriselk 02-11-2020 05:18 PM

Somebody asked me to say something about the performance.
From memory, shes goes 50 mph readily. Hard to get it to go under 3 mpg.
The handling is pretty incredible in that it just jumps on plane. If you are going 30 mph, and you hit the gas, the increase in speed is really surprising. You dont want to trip and fall on the throttle or u will be out the back of the boat. I bottom fish some and with some of the other deep vees I have had, I was afraid we would snap roll. None of that. I am getting older and am thinking of giving up offshore fishing, or getting a much larger boat. Finishing up an Aquasport flatback right now, so I may put this one on the market. Not trying to formally sell it yet, but if the right offer came along... I have 90 k into this build and am not counting my own time.
