31" x 24" x15 leaning post. Going to have tackle center in the back. And ideas on layup schedule. I am thinking 12oz biax tape 2 layers inside and 1 layer out out and 10oz woven over the entire outside. http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3118 This is the tackle center going in the back of my leaning post. It needs to be removable so the flange will be screwed into the back of the leaning post with epoxy sleeved 1/4 20 thru bolts. What glass would you recommend for the box 1/4" Marine fir and flange 1/2 birch ply. I'm thinking 12 oz biax on inside seams 10 oz woven outside and 2 layers of 12 oz biax on the flange to box joint inside and out. |
Id just use 1x 10oz on everything, and the biax in corners...

Templates for gunwale support/ rod holders. Thinking all composite on these. Spongy cord hold down type. |
So I am going to be running my scupper tubes out the transom and was wondering if I should pitch them down at all from the rear http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3147bulkhead to the transom or should I keep them in the same plane as the sole/floor?Height above Waterline is a precious commodity. And the sole/floor will already be pitched slightly downward due to the regular trim of the boat. Opinions please.http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3146
|
Leland the best I can tell mine are parallel to the floor. Which means they have a natural slope downward to the transom as the boat is at rest.
|
|
Looking nice Leland. I also have a 78 MA . Mine is a factory 25" transom (shot) I've just read this whole thread . It answered some ?'s I have and created many more LOL.
I'm involved in a couple of non boat projects and when they are tidied up I plan on setting about the deconstruction/reconstruction of mine. I figure 0ne to two years and 10.000.00 to 15,000.00 dollars. This is probably my forever boat though. Your work looks great! Waiting anxiously for more progress pics LOL. |
A few lessons I learned.
Do the transom from the inside. I did mine from the outside and ended up cutting the splashwell out any ways to work and on the inside of the transom. Double work. Keep the cap shape correct. It's not flat from bow to stern. Keep the cap off until the floor is done. You cannot get the floor in in 1 piece with the cap on. So my floor has too many seams. My transom is 20" to fit my 20" leg Suzuki. Gonna be a bay/ kingfish off bean point boat. I used arjay pourable ceramic transom material. If you transom is shot like mine make sure you flatten the outer skin if you are going to re use it. Mine still has a little curve from where the engine was torqued on the squishy old transom . Jorgeinmiami has a really good thread that is master angler specific as well. Vezo 2 has had a master angler for like 20 years so he can answer questions about how the boat is to live with. |
Thank you!

I got my boat flipped and back on the trailer.
Plan is to wash, dewax, sand , repair, fair, wash again and do an epoxy+ graphite coat on the bottom. Will super clean or mean green get rid of wax residue? I will be Using epoxy resin for repairs and epoxy + microbaloons and total fair fairing putty for fairing. Anyone see a flaw in this plan |
Be careful with the epoxy if you want to paint or spray gel-coat. Remember the saying, "epoxy sticks to everything, nothing sticks to epoxy." I have places on my boat, especially the CC, that I painted over epoxy with micro-balloons, which I used a a fairing compound, using the Signature paint. After 11 years it's coming loose.

http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3187 found the old logo.
http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3185. Bottom coated in epoxy/graphite. Still needs a wet sand at 220 to smooth out some bugs and bubbles. http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3186. Getting rid of the OD green paint. Gelcoat is solid but I am going to paint with system3 WrLpu |

Sweet Leland! I have no painting talent so it's nice to see someone who does!! :)

My cousin and I got my boat flipped back over there's a link to the YouTube video and I am the handsome devil in the red shirt

Now a word about the "handsome devil" :) I see your supervision/helper showed up when the job was almost done, she's smart for her age!!!
|
What you don't see is the 3 hours of her dead center of frame jumping around and asking if she can help.

Lots of progress since last post mostly just painting interior and rigging. Hard to take pics with paint on both gloved hands http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3315

Outboard is back on after a 4 year hiatus. http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3317
Yes I know I need to pressure wash the midsection and get a new skeg welded on the lower unit. |
Pulled the boat into the front yard and scrubbed it. Had more than 1 person give thumbs up. And the guy across the street walked over and gawked a bit. It's a "good from far far from good" finish on the boat.http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3322

Good from far, but far from good makes me think of the famous tennis player's (I forget who now) reply when asked what he thought about some famous actress (I forget who again). He called her a 9 iron. The interviewer was confused and asked for an explanation. The guy says 9 iron, looks good from about 150 yards away. Hahahaha

I cobbled together a new glovebox lid and switch bezel out of some old teak rod holders Mr. jorgeinmiami sent me http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...pictureid=3367

Dunked the Seacraft in the lake to check my scuppers level. First pic shows them about 2.5" above waterline. I am Waiting on a new impeller and then the motor should be good to test on. Still need to get the Bimini top, some reg. Numbers, a little bit of sea dek knockoff and rubrail.
