Yea Ryan was stressed out but always was looking out for what I needed. What I had to repeat several times was the need for light weight product. Trying to loose weight on the boat. Next time I will make the order and call at 8 am to go over every thing and take delivery at their store the next day.

I use an 8 hp Yamaha 4 cycle Hi Thrust model. Its geared and proped for low speed, high torque, kicker type uses. Works great on a 25 Seafari, much better than my old 15 hp Evinrude. The extra torque gives you the ability to push through moderate wind and chop with little loss of speed.


What type of tie bar do you use? A pull start is ok by me and setting the throttle manually is ok as well. What about Nissan or Tohatsu?

Ken, that is an option but in 4+ sea conditions it may not be an option then again if you were to set the hook or deploy a drift sock it could work. Will consider the option.

Slow going but at least got the glass rack done. Those rolls are heavy.

no tie bar. It would be very nice, but the idea doesn't work with the drive/platform/engine mount that I have.

I haven't really needed it so far. The kicker can be set for any thrust direction and locked in that position. From there I can steer the boat with the 1/0 drive. This works fine when its reasonably calm, not sure how it would work if it was really nasty. If I had to steer from the stern, it quick and very positive. The kicker controls the boat real well.

If the kicker can be locked into a straight position then I believe your correct about steering with the main motor.

I have the next three weeks to skin coat 11 boards and some final tweaks to the lay up table. Its just is not as rigid as I want it to be. My thought is the final product will only be as good as the lay up table.

Made it in two pieces 22" wide and 1/2 thick with 1/2 X 3/16 aluminum stock on the edge. Have 2 saw horses and will try adding a two more.

Quick question, can I use peel ply over the lay up and use a roller to squeeze out unneeded resin?

I know you already have your table made up...but what I used was a big melamine board table...easy to clean, and when it got gross I just flipped it over and used the other side. I think I went through 2 0r 3 during my build.

That's what I do before I vac bag it. Make sure you use one of the ribbed aluminum glass rollers though. Peel ply also prevents blush on your part if it is an epoxy layup.
