Alright, here's my story........Frank-My dad was good friends with Bill Soverel (sailboat maker) at that marina you managed and he crewed with bill on his 48 center cockpit boat all the way up to the Annapolis Show and back one year around 1983. My dad has been designated a local historian in Jupiter, yada, yada. He water skied in the inlet with a 1950 Alumacraft with some small outboard back in the 50's. He went to highschool with Buddy Tuppens at Lake Worth High and played football against the great Burt Reynolds. Oh yea, commodore of the PB Sailing Club, ect., ect.

The only fuel you did have was the Parish Vino...running the inlet with a 25' Robalo breaking 20' ....who you bullchiting Father

Nope, no kidding Chuck, it was breaking 20 or more. It seemed like it was even bigger at the time. I was about 15 or 16 years old, and not at the helm, just a passenger, along with a couple of other friends, on one their dad's boat. It seemed like Capt. George rode the back of the same wave from more than 1/4 mile out.

I clearly remember being down in the trough looking up at waves that towered way high over the T-top. That kind of Nor'easter is why Jupiter Inlet is the 9th most dangerous inlet in the USA. Every year they'll get one or two storms where the break on the bar straight out from the inlet is straight out of a nightmare.

Back in the early '84, I remember a seventy-something foot Broward broaching and nearly capsizing in Jupiter Inlet in just such a storm. They hit their running gear on the second bar in the trough between swells and lost steering.

Chuck, you live near there, would you try to shoot Jupiter in a 30 knot N'East squall line? I won't. My friend Kevin's dad George said we didn't have the fuel to go to Lake Worth or St. Lucie. I believed him. We made it in. Exciting memories of a very scary experience.

Looks like my schedule is open for the weekend of the gathering :D, and the wife and kids want to go :) :), so Team Seadog (Lloyd, Aniela-pronouced ah-nA-la, 6 year old Anna, 5 year old Davis, and Abaco-11 year old yellow lab who is part of the inspiration for the boat's name) will be there!!

However, I just called Long Point, and all of the waterfront sites are booked. So we booked site #115 across the road from the point. Would anyone with a waterfront site be so kind as to let me tie up my 20cc? My buddy Captain Morgan would gladly show his appreciation ;)

We are looking forward to meeting everyone in person, and having a great weekend!

Lloyd

Capt. Loyd,
When I booked my site the ranger/park guy told me that my site was big enough for two boats.

We will probably have the smallest boat there (19'Bowrider), so I'm sure we'll have plenty of room to share!!!!! and besides, who's going to care if we split the 'property line'!!??!!
It's just great you and the family can join in!
Countdown has begun ...

The Shrimping at night is awesome there, near Sebastian. I have some shrimping equipment. Also I have some good areas for offshore Dolphin and wahoo out of Sebastian, spring Mahi run should be good then.

I will be driving down Thrusday. Anyone have a decent hotel with good security?(well lit not near a major onramp to an interstate) Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Brian

PS I can't wait to hammer some of those offshore fish. I personally hold the record for catching the smallest Cobia anyone has ever seen. About 18 inches!!!!!!!!!! That is my one and only Cobia. :(

As a teenager my dad spent his summers in the keys, Granparents owned a hotel, he used to fish out of a very small skiff throwing casting plugs and catching many of the juvenile swordfish you just spoke about. he has some awesome stories!

Re: 26\" Sailfish

I caught my 26" Sailfish at the mouth of Lake Worth inlet fishing off the south jetty for Snook by casting a Zara Spook at the confluence of an outgoing tide. (Confluence = where the brown water and the blue water meet :))

This is getting real close and I'm getting excited - although I'm not getting excited about having to go do the toilet bowl treatment - buff and put Rejex on that crapper. I'm going to try the Rejex as wax in our rivers just doesn't cut it. I do have to try and look good since Mr Gucci AKA Capt Chucks boat will be there I may try just washing it but at least I may catch more fish than him - can those Gucci guys actually fish ????

Also whats the situation on drunk shrimping, I know they run over there sometimes and it could be fun if the moon is right kinda maybe, just trying to figure out what crap to bring short of an 18 wheeler

Com'on Dog, I've owned my SeaCraft for 23 years. You know it's not the dress code, it's the VDH that draws the bites..... Sit down some day with my photo albumn & scope out the memories

the shrimping has been good, and it is really good 3night before and 3 nights after full moon, esp. this time of year. Out-going tide near the inlet. Flacrab.com has G2 so does jethros shripming page. Must use a clear or white mono net no blue or green. BTW Scientifically speaking green and blue lights work best for drawing bait and shrimp.

I have a clear net but I'd rather go buy them than throw the thing, now snookerd on the other hand may want to borrow it.......

Dogsucker-I thought you would be into using the "dip net". It's so perfect for you....... :o :o :o

eggsuckindog 02-29-2008 11:50 PM

Re: Long Point April 11-12

As a matter of fact I have 2 I use over here and was really thinking that way. I hate throwing that big ass net I have almost as much as sticking 4 sabiki hooks in my arm, thats fun too :D

Re: Long Point April 11-12

I was talking about a dip net. I dont think that the concentrations are great enogh for a castnet. You would get worn out very quickly casting on the one and two that pop up here and there vs. just dipping them.

Re: Long Point April 11-12

Can you bait for them??? We use 50/50 fish meal/white clay during the season here.

Never tried that, first I have heard of it, I have seen some crack a can of catfood and toss it out there. I do know they are attracted to lights.

Oh. forgot, when water temp rises above 66 degrees the run will start.

Re: Long Point April 11-12

Speaking of shrimp. This has puzzled me for 15 years. No real run here in W.P.B.,but No. and So. of us they run. Is this due to the effluent runoff from Ag. and Big Sugar in Okeechobee. We don`t have a lotta seagrass.
