you can update your lower cowlings. I just threw away a scratch and dent pair of 96 lowers...they have one rigging tube on starboard side. :(

Blue197320 10-19-2011 11:37 AM

any reason why you went with johnson pumps as oppossed to rule pumps? i always thought rule was the industry standard.

I love this transom setup!!

Wildman 10-19-2011 02:59 PM

Thank you Don you were on my list to call actually for info! I have also considered threading the control cables through one of these TH fittings for the fuel line (if it will fit)
http://www.thmarine.com/product.cfm?PRID=196
I am resisting the urge to drill more holes in the bracket as I know one day I will update the motor and have a proper all in one rigging tube.
But I am liking the PVC trick, we also considered having a piece of starboard that would slide in like stock, and have a snout for the tube.

Hermit, thanks buddy glad to hear it! ;)

Blue, Rules are the standard because they are available, I have heard nothing but good things about the Johnson pumps, one of these was on my last boat and it pumped for quite a while HA!

Bigshrimpin thanks its a pretty standard, simple 'down east' design. I dont like the vertical walls where ya end up kicking the bottom of the transom every time you try to walk up to it! Thanks to Brian for the idea!

Well here it is! It ran today for over and hour, round and round and round in Town cove...
I need a 5in extension, but it ran with only a couple little hicups, once I get the prop correct (I think the 14.5X19 is going to be close) I can tune up the carbs a little bit. But into the wind at 5500RPM it hit 30+ on the GPS

WOW what a water line!

Patrick, Looking good...You must have scared a few folks in TC rippin it up! Sits real nice with the bracket.

Wildman 11-03-2011 07:27 AM

That is the best part, there ISN'T anybody else around except the guys digging Quahogs near the yacht club and the commercial guys on moorings. We just left the trailer backed in for over an hour and ran it in circles, nobody even looked twice at us!

DonV 11-03-2011 07:53 AM

Hey Wildman, you talking about NoBones?? You know, Mr. "I've got more SeaCrafts than anyone":) :)

Actually no, I bought it from Finster, I believe it was supposed to go on his boat (3 boats ago) :D

heynow2203 11-03-2011 02:39 PM

Damn Nice Job you have done!!

joshz 11-03-2011 02:49 PM

I have done the same thing with the Regulator taking laps around the cove. Pleasant bay is more fun then you can terrorize all the blow boaters...She looks great.

Heynow hows the inboard coming they are great platforms wish I had more time for my old one.

Wildman 11-04-2011 06:49 AM

P-bay crossed my mind too, but the wind was HOWLING and I know help isnt too far away (nauset marine) if it decided to quit running in town cove. I still want to do a couple hot laps around CC bay after I get it proped right with the extension, couple more hours of running would do it good.

Wildman 03-25-2012 07:59 AM

Well, I have been digging back into this thing. After trying to get the ol' evinrude running right, shifting right, and behaving, I have given up. I Stuffed the boat in the shop on Thurs while the motor was sitting on CL waiting for a buyer... well of course it sold on Sat.

This is what it the boats getting instead.
http://marine.honda.com/products/modeldetail/BF250

I am bound and determined to get this thing in the water before JUNE! So the pace is going to go quick the next couple weeks, and the pictures may not be as plentiful as they were before.

So far, I have scuffed down all the nonskid on the cap, sanded the inner hull to about 80% and chopped out all the rotten core around the old rod holders, cleats, lights etc. My plan is to back up all new 'jewelery' with some little Penske scraps so this will never happen again. Overall I thought the rot was going to be worse than it was. I was VERY surprised that the core was in decent shape.

Dishing out all the spots Ill have to lay in glass after the core is in.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P3240272.jpg

End of the night, pretty satisfied how much BS grinding and sanding work I got done in 2 evenings. This should be the majority of the grinding until I start doing the body work. I am hoping to have the gellcoat shot in the next couple weeks, then roll the nonskid on and rig the motor after that.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P3240269.jpg

Yes it really was that dusty in there, the dam chain flipped off the door opener, only one big door would open.

heynow2203 03-25-2012 08:03 AM

Looking like your having a blast with that the camera lense is making me ichy

hermco 03-25-2012 09:03 AM

Was it snowing?

Wildman 03-25-2012 12:49 PM

Wasnt itchy too bad, mostly Gellcoat dust.

Wildman 03-31-2012 08:11 AM

At this point, I am about three quarters the way thru the rough work on the cap. Most of the cores have been goop'd up and sanded flat, and most of them have a couple layers of glass over them.

Here is an in progress shot. The front ones have 2 layers over them the right one is just goop'd in there and the left one hasnt been yet. I threw a layer down under them to seal the underside, and take out some of the high and lows, so they fit flatter. I am thinking about giving the bow a little more curve with some extra glass over the core, because I am mounting a vert swivel rod holder up there to fight fish.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P3300275.jpg

Thats what we like! Matt is almost flush, the less body work I do the happier I am!

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P3300274.jpg

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P3300273.jpg

Wildman 04-08-2012 01:27 PM

The last layers of glass, and first couple passes with filler. I also re-cored the casting platform hatch using some scrap 1/2in penske board.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P4070278.jpg

Then sanded the top of the hatch, removing the nonskid stripes, and then a layer of filler. I have a plan for this hatch and a decal that should be pretty cool when its done.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P4070277.jpg

Other than that, its just fill, sand, fill sand. etc.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P4070279.jpg

Casting platforms first layer of filler. I am not gonig nuts with the body work that will be under the nonskid. You can see the patch on the left side of the picture, it was a really strange crack that had a TON of filler in it, I believe it may have been from when they molded the boat it was much larger than I realized.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P4070280.jpg

And the last layer of matt on the bow.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P4070281.jpg

Wildman 04-17-2012 06:17 AM

Got ALL the body work done on Sunday. Its ready to shoot the end of the week!

Wildman 04-22-2012 10:44 AM

Heres a few pictures for you guys....

Shot the Cap first, on Friday afternoon. Then Sat afternoon, shot the rest of the inner hull. I am giving it a day or so to setup some more, then ill start installing the 'shiny stuff' and rolling the nonskid on the rails. But its ready to go back on the trailer and have the old motor removed and a good cleaning in the mean time!

I am planning on taping 3/4in of white along the boarder of the floor, thats why the random stopping spot on the transition between floor and wall. The rest of the floor has been left 'rough' and just shot with gellcoat and wax to seal it for the last few months. I have a couple nubs and bumps to hit with a grinder and then it will be a very even nonskid surface.

heynow2203 04-22-2012 12:18 PM

Looks good keep it up

Wildman 04-22-2012 04:26 PM

Its not perfect (I wasn't really trying for perfection, its a damn fishing boat!) but I want to have people look twice when I tell them its a '72.

NILS 04-22-2012 05:03 PM

The boat looks dam sweet. My 72 still has a long way to go, but every time i fill the hold with fish it is perfect

Wildman 04-30-2012 07:22 AM

Here is another update or two.
Most of the nonskid is done (all except for the main deck), I need to do more cleaning before I can do that part. I started with the bow, and worked to the back.
I added a couple 70's stripes on the rails just to break up the big expanse of blue in those areas. I am leaving the stern white for now, I may add more hardware later.

Wildman 04-30-2012 07:27 AM

Overall I am very happy with the way its coming out, I can not WAIT to pull it outside and WASH IT DOWN and grab a few more pictures in the sunlight! It is still so dusty, doing the rest of the rigging is going to be just as itchy as the glass work!

jaybap 04-30-2012 02:02 PM

coming out great. i need to redo my non skid next year, and am taking some notes.

Wildman 05-20-2012 03:51 PM

Lets start with the last couple weeks. All the plumbing is done with the exception of the tuna tubes which I don't have yet. The fish boxes are both plumbed to a macerator pump for the end of the day wash down. I had to glass a piece of half cut 4in PVC to the inner stern for the tuna tubes line. Also de-rigged the T-top to weld in the radar mount.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P5090305.jpg

Long night yesterday... moving out of my shop in less than 2 weeks, so had to start cleaning up. After that rolled the boat back in, and got down to business. The bars to bolt the radar mount to got welded in last week. Last nights tasks:
Pulled the motor off, re-threaded the T-top canvas, reinstalled the outriggers and all the antenna and installed the new Radar mount. Next up is the T-box rewire and radar install.

Wildman 05-20-2012 04:25 PM

Its nice to have a second pair of hands when your laying on the top.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t..._fab/photo.jpg

Wildman 05-23-2012 08:04 AM

I went around the edges where I had only used non-waxed gellcoat before, this should add some shine and keep it cleaner looking.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P5220312.jpg

Radar dome is on and cable is run down, along with all the rest of the stuff on the top is done and sealed up!

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P5220311.jpg

Taped and rolled the forward part of the main deck.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/P5220310.jpg

While waiting on drying nonskid I was working on re-doing the T-top box. Still needs a filler panel in the middle and wiring. The VHF is now installed under the CD deck.

Hi Patrick,

May I ask what product you are painting the deck with? Will be doing the same before too long. Looking real nice!

Its called Kiwi grip. I got it at Jamestown dist, goes on with their special roller. Its sensitive to how thick the material is, and how much you 'work' the material.

I just used Kiwi Grip on my skiff and can't say enough good things about the stuff. No stirring, priming, just lay it down and roll super easy. Will be using it my 23 SC as well.

Looks like good stuff. I used Durabak on a small boat I had and liked it other than it absorbing too much dirt and being somewhat difficult to clean. Was thinking about doing the sand thing with single part polyurethane but didn't want a high gloss on top of it. This looks like a good option!

Blackfin26 06-13-2012 09:58 PM

Patrick, How's the boat/bracket/motor combo working out?? I'm guessing you're out sniffing for tunas :)

Wildman 06-19-2012 05:01 PM

HA! I wish! I have been out 'fishing' 3 times in the last month, and they was mostly beer cruzes.
I am up to myass in alligators at work right now, have 5 guys (including myself) doing 40-50hrs a week and still falling behind! I took on a ton of new customers, and I couldn't staff up fast enough (typical lower cape story) and its causing me heartburn.
Oh yea and the wife is due in less than 4 weeks, another source of heartburn.
Boat still does not have a motor, heartburn #3...

Blackfin26 06-20-2012 01:49 PM

Congrats on your Trifecta!! Sounds like you'll have a very busy summer....especially in another 4 weeks. Best of luck with the little on the way... My 5 year old won't let me leave him at home any more!!
Thought you had your engine ordered and delivered? I'm curious how it sits as I'm thinking about twin 150-200 etecs on a Hermco bracket for the Sceptre. All the best, Steve

Jpimminc 06-27-2012 05:13 PM

had recently purchased a*1978 Center Console Seacraft. I am getting
ready to restore it however,*their are a few questions I would like to ask.
Their are square holes on each side of the motor well that are covered with
plexiglass and when I took the plexiglass off the holes appeared to be
recessed. Are they just access holes to the bilge or am I missing something?
If possible, I would greatly appreciate if you could send any other
information and pictures with this model boat.
*
Regards,
Jpimminc
