Vezo, Part II 04-10-2012 09:07 PM

Thanks Bro. I've heard nightmares of pulling (factory?) tank. Also, that 90 degree fill was above the core of larger, aft fuel hatch. Not scared of recoring rear hatch, just wondering how to order new fuel tank with lower profile fuel fill, AND an 8 inch pie plate! Thanks. Part II. I will be off the net for awhile.

Well I got a new to me trailer this week.
Someone close had a aquasport that was a project that he wantef to get rid of and would include the trailer and title to both if I got it off his yard.

i picked them up swaped the trailers and had someone local that wanted a project boat pick up the aquasport and trailer

Now its not the trailer that I want and it needs some love, but at least for the summer it will get me around and when I do move on the new one I can get some $$ out of it.

The weather down here looks like it's not going to be good with a 80% chance of rain so does not look like to much will be done

Here is a pic of the trailer

Capt Chuck 04-20-2012 08:23 PM

Coming along very nice Jorge!
I have the same console on my 23'. Your getting ready for those summer slammers huh :D

Run some dedicated lines with LEDs and call it a day. I have not touched my lights in 4 years. Carb cleaner and the connection is where I fail. Be nice to your pins.

50 mph gusts here soon

GFS

DonV 04-21-2012 07:43 AM

Sandy is correct! Use 16ga extension cords from the plug directly to each LED light...with no openings, use the green wire as a direct ground to each light. Use heat shrink connectors and then adhesive lined heat shrink over those.

As Sandy would say, "heat shrink is good".

Not much happened as it was raining all weekrnd but I did manage to get the boat up on the trailer. It needs to be adjusted as you can see on the pics and I plan on getting rid of the electric winch ..don't know if it works or not but if someone local wants it let me know.
Also waiting on some harware (harness, shift cables, battery cables etc..) to be delivered and getting it installed

Debating as to do the trailer myself or send it out.
Engine is painted and next I want to replace all the fuel and water hoses change the impeller the spark plugs get it on the boat and see what happens.
Need to get the decals for the cowling
Either way I want to take it to a mechanic to go over it before I get towed in.

And my son brought home the Flu and guess who has it?

jorgeinmiami 05-02-2012 07:33 PM

Engine On!

Not much to do today I wanted to finish the Binacle but I need some parts to attach the cables that are missing and the Merc dealer is closed today

So i installed the brackets for the batteries under the console.
I need to get a battery switch and am waiting for the mail to deliver the battery cables I bought
I did connect the harnes to the engine side i still need to cut hole for the key and also for the Tach and gas gauge Thought I had at least 1 good battery but it looks like it's dead so I need 2

I also painted the cowl and base of the compass in Phantom Black going to get new decals soon It came out pretty good

I think I'm going to try and get the engine started this week see what other surprises I may have

Still Lots To Do before the June 1st spash date I may not make it

fdheld34 05-06-2012 05:55 PM

Jorge...lookin great....heck with deadlines just have fun..if you dont think about your deadline you will make it.....

Not much done in the last few days
Installed binnicle and speed/gear cables
Installed harness and placed key in the dash
Put compass in place

Need to get the wire for the electrical items (bilge pump, lights, electronics Etc....)
I plan on running 2 pumps in the 1100 to 1500 range. Plus a thru hulll with a smaller pump for the bait well/wash down.

I don't want to over power on the baitwell pump but I don't want to go short on the wash down pressure
What are you guys running out there that works?

Evan that runs a 20 like mine has been kind enough to bring his boat over so I can copy his wiring. It's going to be a BIG help having one side by side to reference the work needed

And I'm waiting on the mail to bring me some goodies!!!

Blue197320 05-10-2012 10:02 PM

seems like the part worked for the shifter?

jorgeinmiami 05-11-2012 09:12 AM

Yes it did ...Thanks

jorgeinmiami 05-11-2012 05:12 PM

How or what do I do with this?

1 Attachment(s)
Would love to have this back on the console but it's pitted and not in the best of shape

And how to reattach it? the fittings on the back do not exist any longer

Suggestions?

eggsuckindog 05-11-2012 05:27 PM

Gorilla glue, seems to hold anything, even fixed my flip flops with it - 4200 would also work I bet

maybe paint it - black then hand paint the letters silver or gold - put some masking tape on after the black dries and an exacto or razor to trim out the letters for neater job with a hobby brush - they even make little jars of metalflake

Just read back into the thread - I am running an 1100 bait pump but must knock it down as it throws too much water for bait, so make it adjustable - it does decent on a washdown though. Not sure anything smaller would work for a washdown but I only went that size because of my seacock size and needed the 1 1/8", T & H marine makes some good baitwell stuff but at 1100 I bet I run mine halfway in most cases.

My 2 bildge pumps are 1100 and an 800 and that seems fine - start looking around for a Stilletto prop on the used market, you won't be disappointed, has to be the best all around SC prop on the planet - I found mine for 150 its a 19

On the motor you can get some red and gray pinstripe tape at Auto parts - stays pretty good

jorgeinmiami 05-11-2012 09:27 PM

I may try the black and then silver letters
I will more than likely run 2x 1100 bilge pumps
And the wash down/baitwell go with the 110o recomended if I don't go for the washdown and go with the old school 5 gal bucket then do 700 on the pump

I have a prop that came with the engine that I want to say it 17" pitch

And the cowl's getting "original" decals from ebay or some other site

eggsuckindog 05-11-2012 11:31 PM

I said look for one, it ain't gonna be that easy - I had a prop that came with mine too. Susan noticed the difference in 10 minutes and she was just riding, and knows nothing about boats or props - must have been the Breast Jiggle Index

Like I said the 1100 is more than you need for the baitwell alone, I think Rule makes an 800 with 3/4 outlets, so I run it closed down 1/2 to 3/4 - if I fired up the 1100 the bait would look like salmon

BTW T & H Marine have chrome over plastic thru hulls for the bilge pumps - apparently makes them stronger, so I ordered some as they are cheap and look better - mine are 6 yrs old so I thought for $8 I'll change them. Actually was ordering a baitwell light and felt dumb shipping 1 item for $12

your getting close

Blue197320 05-12-2012 08:37 AM

jorge since you are running a 150 i have the prop from when i had a 150 on my 20. its a 15x17 alum. i would try that and get a starting point. your welcome to it if you like.

jorgeinmiami 05-12-2012 08:59 AM

The engine came with 3 props 1 SS and 2 Aluminum not exactly sure of the sizes but I am still a bit away from going in the water
But when the time comes sure I'll borrow it

Thanks

jorgeinmiami 05-14-2012 07:01 PM

I today I connected the teleflex cable and what do you know the cable is bad
Need to take it out and get a 15ft'er the one I had apart from it being bad was a foot to long

I know I should go hydraulic but the budget does not allow it and I'm not running a big heavy engine anyways

Oh well there goes another $100....LOL

fdheld34 05-14-2012 07:12 PM

Jorge...my uflex was 16' long out of my 18????
I went with baystar but I have a 125 Merc.....do yourself a favor and go seastar.....!!!!
Also, we require more pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Fred

jorgeinmiami 05-14-2012 07:43 PM

I had a 16ft'er and it was too long, in the back where it came out to go to the engine well it had a 1ft curve that should not be there. It was a cable from a boat i got rid of a few years ago. I do have my helm in the center of my console because I moved it from the right side of the console to the middle so the binnicule would be on my right side instead of the left. And even like that it was too long.

Either way it was a bit too long and too late I cut it already and it's in the dumpster.

Off to the marine store for one unless someone has a 15ft'er laying around....or a extra hydraulic helm ....LOL

eggsuckindog 05-14-2012 11:15 PM

I have cable steering it will be fine

fdheld34 05-14-2012 11:33 PM

Damn Dixon..I wanted to spend his money:rolleyes:....
-Fred

eggsuckindog 05-14-2012 11:38 PM

sorry

he can buy a Stilletto prop for the difference - just say'in

hugo 05-15-2012 06:11 AM

dont forget the miami marine flea market is on this weekend at tropical park, find some hydrolic steering, you wont regret it.

jorgeinmiami 05-15-2012 07:46 AM

Thanks for the tip I will for sure head out that way

Anyone else heading out?

Did the bases for the bilge pimps and thru hull today tomroow I'll glass them in
Install a battery and switch but did not do a permanant job, I just wanted to start the engine.
Put some gas in the tank and hit the switch and it started with no trouble at all.

What a relief that it started and ran good I need to fix the lower unit seal as is is leaking lower unit oil in the propeller area and change out the impeller.

I will more than likely do some minimal electrical done and finish as the summer progresses and see what I need

The trim....... I guess I need some type of relay or something to get it going.
On the bottom of my binicule the is a set of 3 wires that finishes in a plug that should go to something.
What is it that it plugs into and where do I get it

What do I need for this?

Next I need to do the trailer so I can get it in the water

I'm so close to getting in the water I can smell it

jorgeinmiami 05-28-2012 08:19 PM

Glassed in the bases for the 2 bilge pumps and the base for the thru hull

Installed both pumps and the thur hull and pump I need to get the electric to them but that will be sometime this week. I also need to get the 2 batteries connected to the battery switch

Installed the fuel gauge in the dash but not to the sender, next is the tach

Played with the trim and got that going but I think I have 1 selenoid that is bad and I need to get the trim fluid right. I bought some today and when I was adding it the fluid that was in there came up to the top did not look right, not that it had water, but it may be just old. I would like to flush it out and in with new fluids.

next I really need to get the trailer going as I will be needing to move the boat to the mechanic to get the lower unit looked at, I am leaking lower unit oil from the seal on the prop shaft and I want him to look it over before I go any where

And boy was it hot today!!

I guess pics will be asked for and they will up tomorrow

hugo 05-28-2012 08:49 PM

it was hot today but at least you were working on the boat, wife had me working on an overhang for the rear patio :( my poor boat is sitting with no transom and i can here its saddness.

Bought the selenoid and the trim fluid and got the trim working

One more thing off the list.

Next is the trailer
The boat rests more on the rollers that are down the middle and not on the bunks
As you can see in the pics I placed some 2x4's to steady the hull

I would like to move the bunks inward or raise them so that the hull rests on them and if possible eliminate the rollers the rollers will get in the way of the thru hull.

After that;s done I have an appointment with the mechanis to take cate of the leak in the lower unit, but while that is done I need to run power to the bilge pumps

Either way it needs some tuning

eggsuckindog 05-30-2012 05:56 PM

you will need the rollers nearer the front so it doesn't scrape - it should almost float over that rear one launching and loading?

I agree it needs to be mostly off the rollers at rest

77SceptreOB 05-30-2012 08:15 PM

what year is that trailer? Looks like "old roller" The fenders give it away.
