Looks nice, simple and effective. What are your plans for your helm pod? Something Carolina custom-ish?

martin 01-01-2014 08:44 AM

Yes .. Carolina style . With a electronic pop up

martin 03-11-2014 01:19 AM

okay back at it .. peeled all the core material off the center deck boards and ground down. going to replace with foam core.... added a few more pieces of foam core around the gunnel cap for the rub rail. and prepped and coated the twin bracket..last coat for bracket went on tonight..

Now on to the bracket for the boat. First I used my water sandblaster that I got from northern freight. did a quick blast. ten I used ppg alum. prep.rinsed real good. and then used ppg barrier coat. dry out is the sun . then applied three coats of belzona5811 and made sure I hit all the nook and crannies.

Thats about it for now. Tues I will be finishing ou the deck boards and building the gas tank beds. Going to try to blast the bilge.

martin 04-05-2014 04:59 PM

Finally got the fuel tank bed glued down. Between the glassing and kids fighting and one going in the water.. I was not able to take as many pics as I wanted...so here is the tank bed being layed up..

Great work, great documentation. I am a month or so away from starting somewhat similar mods on my 25, so the pics are appreciated.

Thanks for the compliment...there are so many other things i wish i could have documented . I mean alot more pictures would have been good...

I dry fitted the 9' bed a few times to get the height ringt.. I then knew i had to install a center stringer to help spread the load .. That was a major pia.. Especially by myself..i lamenated two3/4" foam boards to gether and then.. Be gan sanding the piece slowly down to get the correct spacing between the bed and center keel..i covered it in a layer of1808 and down each side of the stringers port and starb to give the bed some fresh glass to stick to..while tacky. I piled on the resin cabosil putty on the keel and down both sides then i carefully set the bed down and wedged whatever i could find to keep it down.. Cause the bed had a slight crown.. Which to me is good...

Looking good Martin. Was that bubble wrap you used in the vacuum process?

Did you use regular epoxy for the layup?

Yes just plain bubble wrap.. I prefer the large bubble wrap but this is all hd had at the time..
Polyester resin is all I'm using for now..thanks fish on the brain

I'm impressed. I'd like to try and vacuum bag something soon. maybe I can give you a call when I'm ready?

Well I finally got all the bolts to come through to the otherside... The bracket is fitted but not bolted yet... Resealable ng the plywood core. I have done this three times now. Pulled the bracket off more than I want to count... Slowly but surely, it's getting there.. I also went ahead and v.r.t.m. the void I have in the transom.. Mixed some fast west epoxy and sucked that stuff right in..

Cool - did you pull the resin up or down? How much vacuum did you use and did it get to your trap? Get any pics? I know sometimes pics are not possible with a fast hardener.

Here it is nothing fancy

martin 04-21-2014 11:16 PM

I drilled a hole at the very top of the void. Then I installed my 1/4", fitting and connect to the vac pump.. I then installed another fitting to the lowest part of the void. Which happened to be one of my bolt holes.. I then pulled a VAc checking it to make sure we have good vac.. I then mixed west 105 with there fast hardner.. 206 I think.. Mixed her well the opened the vac port and voila....

martin 06-22-2014 10:37 PM

I just pulled all new hoses for the two fuel tanks... What a job..found that a small gaff works well at pulling the 1 1/2" fuel fill hose up through the gunnel.... My question is is it okay for my fuel fill hose to touch the deck.. Or does there need to be an air gap??

martin 08-03-2014 02:34 PM

I finally am back at it. Got fuel hoses from tank secured and put an aluminum pipe under the cross brace on the forward tank.ground down the bilge area and prepping to glass. Built a forward insulated cooler. Will glass it tonight ..

Engine compartment.. Still need to grind some on the keel area.. And finish the void in the out drive area... There was an air void in between the two layers of fresh glass and the new transome.. There are three layers of 1808 on the ply core.so it will be fine. Plus the glass on the inside skin is over 3/8" thick.. Coring with 1/2" composite then grind down and bed a skin of poly and fiberglass 1708..with epoxy and cabosil.. That way I won't have a delam issue later. Cause everything from here will be polyester...

Just glued a gussett across the stern and will tie into the back liner and deck..also layed two layers of 1708 .slowly but surely getting there.. Debating on building a sea chest for my pumps.. Has anyone done that before I seen pics in my mags but that is all

I'f you notice. I will be taking the brackets back off once I draw my water line with engines on and estimated weight of fuel gear and console..then I will finish glassing in the gusset. It is glassed on the bottom... A lot of work just to get it right..

martin 08-13-2014 09:27 PM

I will be adding some vertical knees to the horizontal brace and tied in with an alum. brace. Vertically as well

martin 10-01-2014 10:19 PM

I have layed 2 layers of 1708 in the floor and up about 4" on the stringer box..it has rained a few day so I went under the roof

and started the toe kick for the console, I will incorporate battery trays and fw water tank as well in the bottom of pan...

Built frame ,radius edges with clay and router. Waxed and PVA... Then gel coat and then tow layers of glass. Then foam and then three layers of glass.. 1808 .. It is a bit over built but the plan is to mount ttop to console not to floor
