Hey Dirt- Fantastic job!
A lot of progress since Bushwacker and I visited you. I have the ETEC speed control info we discussed ready if/when uou need it. |
Thanks Terry, will do! Getting cables and whatnot sorted now...
|
I would really like to have a console/fish box like that.

ETEC cables

My new to me 23 Sceptre has a 2012 225 Etec on it which works great, but during the winter rehab I put some new extreme cables on it, and now theres quite the lag in the the throttle from in gear to actual rpm increase. I have the etec diag software and recalibrated the TPS sensor, but still have quite the lag. Seems like theres a lot of throw in the binnacle from fwd to throttle. Only adjustment (as far as I know) is the spin adjuster on the motor side of the cable. Something else I can do? |
TFextreme install

The original key issue was acceleration or deceleration was not linear to throttle motion and at some points acceleration or deceleration might cause not-seated riders to lose balance. At the time there were a number of complaints about this on the etecownersgroup site. The stickiness has improved enough that neither me nor my watersports-driving wife complain anymore. The improvement was probably a combo of the extreme cables and replacing the sticky cam follower (PM me if you need more info on that). I have the standard BRP gunnel mounted control. My TPS required re-adjustment after I added PerfectPass, which didn’t surprise me, because I had to modify the engine throttle lever to make PP work. But since then my “TPS out of idle range” fault has only coincided with the winterization process. When I installed the extremes (a couple years after PerfectPass) I didn’t adjust anything in the gunnel-mounted control (if there are even adjustments). Before removing the original cables I did put an alignment mark on the engine throttle lever to note the position of the roller on the throttle cam to attempt to maintain the same relationship; I probably had to adjust the star adjuster to engage the aft end of the extreme cable with the pin on the lower end of the engine throttle lever; but with the extremes that was my only adjustment. There is a bit of dialogue on the etecownersgroup site about cable minimum bend radii, size of loops at the engine end, securing the cable well except at the engine loop, etc. for best results. I’ll try to get an angular measurement on the throttle lever to gear engagement and to accelerate on my next run. |
Yep got the nicest cables that Willard had Terry, and a couple extra feet for some nice sweeps in the console.
Maybe a seatrial next weekend?? https://farm1.staticflickr.com/918/2...11c4fec5_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr |

You sir, are a consummate professional. As a fellow member of the marine industry (or whatever it is that we are) you have my utmost respect. https://media.giphy.com/media/3o7TKq...iz2E/giphy.gif |
Theres some triple guard floating around somewhere too. haha
Ive got an uncle that would bathe in tefgel if it flowed like water. Not a speck of corrosion on his stuff! |
I had the same issue on my 2006 Etec 150. The throttle adjustment was out of control and throwing passengers to the forward bulkhead before I took it in for service. Dealer could not find any issues until they river tested it. They returned it to me as dangerous as when I dropped it off.
It was as if you were using a worn out old hand control on a slot car. The rheastat was worn in the middle of throttle position, so you had all or nothing and the car would fly off the track at every turn. I did not want to take the boat back. Ultimately I replaced the factory blue cables out, engine was in a crate until 2009, and in 2016 had 275 hours on it when I bought the SeaCraft. The new Extreme cables ended that. Why? I have no idea. Bushwacker tried to help out with TPS and dealer had no idea. Frustrating at best!!! Vezo, Part II |
WOW, this is not the work of a craftsman but an ARTIST ! KUDOS !
|
Sorry but can we rewind to the deck install... did you just bed it with thickened epoxy on top of the stringers?

Hey Dirtwheels-
Chris, when are you going to get her wet? |

Very satisfied with the boat for the 2 hours i put on it this morn. Snap your fingers and shes on plane and rips around real nice. Not a shake or shutter anywhere. Floats a bit lower than i had hoped but tennis balls make great scuppers. Runs flat and straight as an arrow!

Unbelievable job. Needs a before and after comparison. I remember the name and logo on her before. Beautiful job! And I like the hydraulic steering connections on the bulkhead/splashwell. Nice detail. Enjoy!
Part II |
It looks fantastic! Job well done.
|
Looks great Chris! Congrats!
|
WOW!!! Really, really sweet! :) Nice work on the little details!
|
Truly a work of art. Thanks for the inspiration. About to start on a 83 20' SC soon. Hopefully it turns out half this nice.
|
Very nice work! Looks professionally done.
Did you run throttle/transmission cables through that rigging tube or is it electronic. I like what you have done, but worried about the sharp angles? |

Gucci Stamp + 5 on this one ! |

Lots of talent there. |
Nice!

Super job dirtwheels.
|
Thanks guys!
Re: control cables I used the teleflex xtreme's (under a BRP label) The bends arent as bad as they look and they work just fine, nice n smooth all the way. I did run into an issue with the steering hoses interfering with the engine rigging a lil too much for my liking, so i used some bulkhead fittings and 90's. Kinda wishing i put another 12-15 gals of fuel in her already... holds 47 |
Gucci and Ferrari stamps needed.

The newness will wear off eventually... Your fuel burn will improve ! Then again maybe not... After 30 years I still cannot help myself for the love of speed ! |
Someone please help Dirtwheels put up a before and after.?.
Part II |
Just went through the thred. Gorgeous boat. I like how you did most of the top coat while the boat was upside down. Makes for easier spraying. when you say she sits a little lower then you like can you elaborate? Maybe a side shot ? The way you distributed the weight in that boat looks good to me.
strick |
Ken- The cruise is great with this old crusty OMC prop im trying, its just not as fun! 5.6gph @28mph @ 3250
Part 2- Ill work on some, gotta dig thru the phone Strick- The balance is spot on, just thought it would float more like a cork, (glad it doesnt). She self bails fine which is all im after. Ill get some side shots soon. This boat just goes. No tabs needed, no steering input needed, dont have to tuck the motor in when running, nada. And the faster the better :) |
A true showpiece for sure
|
I'v seen this boat in person just before he splashed it. It is truly stellar work and engineering that he has done. The details, fit and finish is/are so natural, incredibly well thought out and nearly flawless in execution. Yeah, he'll point out a few spots that aren't "perfect" but to see them the light has to be just right while standing on your head looking at an exact 43.5 degree angle during a high tide on a Tuesday kind of stuff. Ultimately its just one hell of a job really well done. Great job Chris. Post some pics of your trip with Squid Lipps in action when you get back from the islands.

Shhhh, only a few people know where the flaws are!
Put a few more dings in her this weekend over on Grand. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1870/...65677a2b_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1887/...4c4f6c11_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1834/...61979e91_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1818/...3a1db8b5_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1887/...2225bb52_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr |
