Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Man, we can't wait, I'm slowly uncovering the 20 with all the $#!% that has been piled on top of her for the last 8 months in the barn. It is being moved into the house.
It is going to take me a day just to check everything out so we have no problems on the trip. rest assured shelving in the closets can wait due to this trip. It is all the finishing touches that consume the most time, with building a new home. Egg, I will send you Vehicle/Boat info to secure a ramp pass for us. We will check into the Ramada Friday afternoon, then launch Sat morning to head to Anclote and get set up. If there is time I plan to throw the tower on the 20 and maybe chase down a Cobe if there are any around. Should have some Manta Rays by then. Also we need to set a time for the official gathering and cook-out. More then likely early afternoon, would be the best. Also Todd lures has agreed to have a selection of the trolling lures he manufactures so that we could pull another number out of the hat for a custom lure of your choice. Thanks to Todd Lures for this offer. Bennett raffle sitting around 50 entrants so far. I will get everyone fired up this weekend to hopefully sell-out, which would be great. See eveyone soon, cannot wait to meet and make new friends with all. Ken Oh yeah lets plan to use channel 68 on the VHF for communication, unless it is to busy we could pick another channel. |
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
There are Cobia on those flats no doubt, although we don't target them like you do on the the east coast-they usually just swim up behind the boat when grouper fishing or drifting for trout. I wouldn't worry about the tower too much, there will be Kings by the ton, Mackerel will be a pain in the ass but big, grouper and cobia offshore within 15 miles, reds, snook and trout right at the camp site or 5 minutes away on the flats. Capt Matt is an expert grouper troller and I have #'s up the whasoo so maybe he can chime in. That sand is so pure and clean you squeak when you walk, no kidding :D saw 2 or 3 coons, Susan yelled at me when I invited them over but she let me leave hot dogs in a tree for them, just not real close. :D
Carl you ready for all this?? I know your lurking :D |
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
The tower gives a visual height, that enables to spot the rascals at a better distance. You'll see. My fabricator did an awesome job on the thing when he built it. Whether in the Keys or cruising the coast the height advantage is great.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
This thing is going to be great. ESD-Got a good spot at the chosen location for the CSC Banner? It looks like new still. I am putting together my list for the trip. Ken-How's the fire wood coming? :D

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Talked with Bill bbh57 this AM, he will handle picking up the parking passes, he also lives on the water right there. You may consider dropping the boat in Fri and parking at his dock that night, so you can do a little ride to see us, it will be light until 8:30. I was going to possibly ride in pick up the Moesly's friday if they get in early enough. Susans taking the day off so we will be out there pretty early. I think we can get the banner set up in the tree's with twine or something.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Just stoped by the Ramada ( Old Holiday Inn) They said you can get a slip there for 20 a night with the room.
|
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
bbh57-That will work on the $20.00 slip........

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Gail and I will be out Friday along with a friend Jason, aka swabby, he has a friend that lives in Tarpon and we're parking at this guys house. I'm not sure if Matt, aka barhopper is coming out on Friday or Sat.
Jason is bringing his 22 ft jon boat with a 150hp jet it's good for hauling stuff and running shallow. My Nextel is 352-302-4573. |
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
With a 4pm low that jet could be real handy making the walk shorter with gear and heavey coolers. I saw another boat ferry stuff in when the big boat couldn't get over the bar. They were back in the lagoon further with a bunch of people had a ton of gear. Were getting close only 2 weekends after this one, and many thanks to bbh57 being so close and helping.

Ken-
getter done with that clear cutting :D. You may have to change your screen name to BIG WOOD instead of No Bones :o. Sorry, I always get the "wood jokes" with my last name. Family in Maine sent me a GOT WOOD? T-Shirt. Might send the wrong message if I used it for my mortgage co?! :D |

Shoot Danny, Capt Chuck already calls me NoBoner! :o

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Not sure if anyone coverd this but II would highly reccomend a small stern anchor, the way the current moves through there it defintly helps keep movement to a minimum.
|
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
A stern anchor is a very good idea.
|
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
You both are correct and they should be pretty good and with a decent amount of line, 50' should be OK on the stern. The currents aren't that strong but with shifting wind and currents you want it staying out.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
This gathering is such a great idea. It is also a good motivator to do all those last minute projects in our boats.
I spent about 6 hours tinkering around. Here is what I completed this weekend. Replace bilge pump with all new heat shrink terminals. Tie wrap and hang all wires neatly in the bilge area. Remove and replace wing nuts on 3 batteries to clean terminals. Remove old Leica DGPS no longer needed. Remove under console lighting that no longer worked. Buy new life jackets on sale at West Marine. Tighten each and every nut, bolt and screw. Check oil in 4 strokes, visual engine check, lower unit oil check. Replace Raycor elements. Squirt Corrosion x on underside of Accon Pop ups. That's about it. The list of "to do's" is growing. I may come up Friday rather than Saturday. I am really really excited. Can't wait to check out all those old (and newer) beautiful boats. |

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Well the only thing left that could become a problem is the weather, and as Capt Matt pointed out in Logistic's SCA's from the NE are not good. Now the weather has been unstable for weeks but this week seems back to more normal patterns. Temps are stable at mid 80's all week and here is a computer generated wind forcast for Thurs and Fri

Also there is no alcohol alowed to be consumed on the Island. Chris just advised us to keep it out of site or keep our feet in the water. :D Also he sounded loanley so keep your women away from him! |

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
The bad part is scrape all the weather info, the fricken front is coming in tomorrow instead of Sat., I will try and find an on plane route through the st pete area as the outside for the Bradenton guys may not work well on Saturday. It was posted on FS awhile ago so I'll try an find it.
|
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Agh, Hopefully the weather Gods will be with us for the weekend! :D
I should be at the Motel 6 (yuck-yuck) by 4pm Friday. My cell 386-451-2273 Lets toast!!! See ya there, Ken |
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
ESD-
Yea, Brian and I are towing, but ressurection and the towboat may need that other route......... |
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Upon further review it doesn't appear that bad as its a very weak front, that being said I am looking but a run on the inside would just take longer because of the No Wake Zones, the one north of Johns Pass is a pain. Once you get to Clearwater its a cake walk run all the way inside the islands but from JP to there takes forever. Modeled forcast is for 8 to 10 not NOAA's 10 to 15 of course its changed every few hours anyway and its only Wed.
Its just not the variable 5 to 10 from yesterday :D |
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
Working hard on leaving today, am going to camp just north of the palm trees and anchor in the bay on the east side. Swabbie wants to fish on Friday before the tourny on Sat. If we're in the boat we'll be on 68 or the cell 352-302-4573.
|
Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007
My cell has been posted before but I'll do again here 813 992 5794 and as a backup Susans is 813 695 0482
