I love the grab rail that I have on my console It keeps people from grabing the wrong things and provides something to hold on to.
Now it does provide a challange in doing some kind of door for the storage on the left. I plan on either flush mounting a garmin 740s and the VHF on the right side, although living in Miami I hesitate to put it there and it could go on the top so I can bring it inside after use. Also the rail could get in the way of the Garmin unless placed in the right spot But any ideas on what I can do as far as some kind of door for the left side storage? |
Is there enough tubing protruding from the tee to allow a 45-degree bend upwards in the grab rail to move it out of the way?
|
that's an idea. will look today if it works
that's. why I come to this site |
how about a sliding plexi door in some groove tracks.could slide to the right side.

Goes to show how well these boats were built. Today's boats would not go thru the trouble of bending 1 tube to fit all around the console it would be at least 2 seperate pieces. What I will do is later take it to the plexi glass guy for a new wind shield ( since I cracked mine in the install) and have hime give me an idea or 2 for the door I may try the sliding door but I don't think there would be enough space Thanks for the ideas !!! |
Jorge....looks like you have room to cut the rail leaving enough 0n the attached piece to fit a 45 or 90 degree fitting???

I still have time to see all the options and the way it is now it's on there and people can hold on with out it falling apart. Worked on the trailer some and have to continue dialing it in after I visit the marine store for some parts lets see if the CFO/Admiral/Wife gives me some budget to work with??? |
Here is the console when I got it
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...s/100_0851.jpg It looks like it had plexi glass doors that spaned the console but I change it I want to flush mount the electronics on the right side and have a "glove/storage area" on the left but the grab bar limits my choices. Thinking I could do the plexi doors but just on the left side, I still have most of the teak so I would only need the bottom piece Opinions??? I was also working on the trailer. I eliminated the rear center roller and moved the bunks in so the it would support the hull and centered it also, I plan to get a piece that would protect the hulll with the rear cross member and attach it there. Next I had already installed the battery switch and placed the batteries under the console and will finihed hooking up the batteries to the switch I have an appointment to take the engine to have the lower unit worked on as it is leaking fluid around the prop shaft most likely the seals are bad Then I plan to hook up at least one bilge pump and take it for a run just to see what happens. |
Looking good
|
if you want another boat to go along let me know. im in need of getting out.

Was bored and I moved the boat under shade to do some electrical
My wife thought I was leaving to the water with out her..LOL I sure she is checking bank account to see what I bought.....LOL |
looks like its almost ready
|
And with the sun the way it beats down on us I don't know if to get the leaning post or the T Top 1st?
Thinking of using this guy for the leaning post http://cuttingedgeboattops.com/index.html He's on the west coast but the T Top should be someone that I either take the boat to or comes out and measures |
Does anyone that has taken off the floor of a MA or SF know the route of the wires for the Nav lights up front?
I see the there are some in the cut out on the floor under the console but which way do the make there way up front? Or is it easier to just go with new ? and whats the best route to take. It looks like just for 2 wires it's going to be a mission |
Wow. I thought my center console was rough.
Mine has the fantastic railing, but rather than a half cubby, it is cut out and has an insert for instruments. I plan on a diamond plate locking cover. Quote:

I did t take yp the deck but i did rewire the. Ow light the wire rad under the deck from the right side of the console and up to the bow theought the hull and above the rod holder rack
|
So digging that wire out or pulling a new one withh the old
I willl just run a duplex marine back thru the chase and then under the gunnel to the light 40 ft of wire for a light I will use once maybe Why kill an hour |
jorge look at the t top on my boat. a guy builds them in his backyard. its a great price and it only takes 2 days.
|
Well I connected the electrical to the 2 bilge pumps and the live well pump yesterday before it rained
It's been raining here in Miami for the last few days so anything done has to be in between the rain So even though it's not 100% done I can splash it for a short run. I put 6 gals of gas in the tank and went to start it up to do the decarb and it would crank but not run. Checked the racor filter bulb and it was full of water Damm!! well thanks fully I had only a little gas/water in the tank and I got that out and then to look for the way the water got in. Found that the seal to the sender was bad and since I had not sealed the plate the goes above it in order to connect the gas guage the rain of the last few days let the water in. put some freash gas and did the decarb ...all well on that and the smoke was great for the mosquitoes I will take care of that today and weather permitting maybe go for a short run today Still need some electrical to do today |
good luck jorge, im playing with glass so no chance for me to do much today. i may cut the foam peices for the stringer additions for the floor if im lucky. this weather is crap!
|
Just makes you appreciate the "normal" great weather we have here 99% of the time.
I would rather have a little rain than a hurricane come up our way Which makes me think where do I park my boat it one comes along? |
With good insurance, right in the path of a storm :)
|
can only guess i would pull the Ttop canvas and tie the boat to the trailer and hope!
|
Throw it in the pool?..oh that is for lawn furniture...
-Fred |
Park it in the worst place possible and Muphy's Law will will prevail.

First, he has a Yami, you have a Merc. What worked for him may not work for you. I do a lot of my own work on my engines. Changing the prop shaft seals requires special tools to do it correctly. When I needed prop shaft seals on my Bravo 1 drive I looked at the manual, looked at how many tools it would take that I didn't have, and took it to a shop. Glad I did. Dave |
True but what's the worst that can happen I buy the seals take an hour or 2 and it does not work?
I Take it to the shop |
I did what Dave did.
|
sometimes it is cheaper to take it to a pro. i think this is one of them. if you use the wrong tools like a punch and hammer to try and get the ring loose on the inside of the hub you may damage parts to the point the pro will need to do more work in the end and cost you more in the end.
|
Yesterday I took off the prop to look at the seals and see if I could do what was described.
I took a small flat head screw driver to the 1st seal and not like it fell out but with very little effort it came out the 2nd one was easy also. The walls of where they go have no nicks or any damage to them. Could it be that the PO used the wrong seals? Anyways it's done and I plan on gettting new seals and replacing them this week Let's see how it goes |
I hope it works out for you Jorge. Do you have a way to pressure test it when you're done?
Dave |
I have a compressor but none of the fittings
Do you have one I could use for and hour? I'm going to order the seals tonight on the web so maybe by the weekend? |
[QUOTE=jorgeinmiami;204444]I have a compressor but none of the fittings

If they are like BRP, you will be on the right track. Blowing a LU can ruin the motah. You`ve come too far. Cheers, GFS |
After all that's been said about taking it to a pro
ALRIGHT ALREADY I'LL TAKE IT TO A PRO!! |
Well Saturday is the day.
I had a friend of mine that knows whats he is doing and with the right tools helped me with the lower unit and I had a out of pocket of $100 for the parts and a nice lunch. I still have some cosmetics and electrical to get finished but I want to see how it runs and hopefully it won't fall apart of sink on me. My brother in law is going to bring his 21 sail Fsih along just in case I would really like to thank everyone here for the advise and support extended in the last 3 years (yikes 3 years to do the restore!!!) And especially to Ken NO BONES for the trailer that got me going again and got me motivated to finished. Let me just say that everytime that I would be thinking how do I do this to the boat soon afterwards someone else would come up with a thread on that same topic...what a great resourse we have here. Well I need to get the tag for the trailer gas up and wait for saturday morning Pics to follow Can't wait to see some of you out there! Again thanks to all on here!!!! |
Been a long haul, be sure and do a Sea Tow memebership as get things sorted out, its a nice feeling having it. Far from done, but getting it in the water makes it all worth it, hope the maiden voyage goes well.
|
Good luck Jorge have a great day. hope i see you on the water soon myself.
