Get down to wallyworld and getba stamp. I got plenty o guns if you want too. If not, I'm thinking Thursday looks good. If you can make a weekday, we can meet up somewhere North of Davis and hit the club in Willows.

Shoot this week is tough. Lisa's birthday is Thursday and I took and Friday off to go and do something with her. Also got some last minute shopping to do. Next week I have the kids but they are out of school so after Christmas I'm good to go. I can make a week day if I plan ahead as this time of year work slows down due to the holidays. Call me as I would love to go and kill something with a gun instead of a needle and syringe. The Honkers fly over my house every evening :)

Hermco- RIP for The Bud Man, he was a cool looking cat

Work has slowed down a bit allowing me to make a little more progress on the boat. After months of grinding and sanding I am mostly done now with all that grunt work. So I have been ordering parts. First to come in was the rub rail. Taco marine part # v21-9613 rigid vinyl. I could not wait to get it on the boat. A little bribing and I got my 14 year old son to help me out.

Next on the list was to get the bilge cleaned up and painted. I had some left over duratec high gloss additive laying around so I used it up. 50/50 with white gel coat. What a difference a clean bilge makes!

The glass was removed from the window frames and I sanded them down with 220 grit. There was a little pitting in a few spots due to some of the ss hardware that was attached to them. I filled them with some quick fair and re sanded them. Then cleaned and etched with system 3 and primed with Awlgrip 545. The next day they were ready for paint.

These are the bolts I'm waiting on to mount the windows. They are from American marine which is now owned by Pompanette. There is a new guy answering the phone and he did not know what I was talking about. First he said they did not have them and I said you got to have them! so I sent him a picture and he was able to find me a pack of 20. I dont know where else you could find these special bolts.

Did you have any trouble bending the s/s around the stern corners? How did you do it?

Snookerd 12-22-2012 12:18 PM

Looking good Strick..........it is very cool to see SeaCraft models that have rarely made their appearances on our web site over the years get the royal treatment by you! The interest in owning a 20 Sceptre has now gone up by a 1000%.

Thanks guys. It's rewarding to see the vision come to reality after all the hard work is winding to an end. I've been racking my head on the seating right now. I'm going back and forth with either custom helm seats on a fiberglass base with a seat cushion on the back or just buying a couple of those back to back folding lounge seats.

Terry no problem with bending the SS insert around the corners it is flexible enough if you use a rubber mallet and have someone hold up the end while you work the corner being careful to tell the other person to pull up or down so it stays in it's track while you beat it with the rubber mallet. The rigid vinyl needs to be heated with a heat gun and it contours easily. You will get a little dimple on the bottom that needs to be trimmed off (see pic below) and then fill with calk any gap there may be at the corners. The rub rail fits nice and snug on the straight sections no calk needed but I will put a small bead of clear silicone around the top and bottom just to ensure that no water will get in.

Wow strick that looks so good! I added a SS rubrail on my 21 Mako and already have it for my 23 SC project, IMHO, it is the cheapest way to make a boat really "pop" gives an ultra high end look! Yours looks so good to as it contrasts so nicely with that great blue color!
I'm sure it's in the thread, but paint type and color is that? Is it awlgrip. Anyway looks fantastic!

Home Depot has the bolts you need. They are in the plumbing section, look for toilet flange bolts.

I used them on my Mako 251 retso a few years back.

Seacock and bilge pump are mounted. I had to use that crappy bilge pump hose because nothing else could make the tight 90 degree bend in the tight space I had to work with. I will check it regularly or I may end up buying a thru hull with a 90 degree bend eventually. For now it's going to have to work.

How did you know where the new waterline and final scupper placement was on this restore? I assume it would be different with bracket and outboard. Did you float it with new power installed?

Beautiful work!

Thanks John and welcome to CSC. I am measuring off the deck and dropping it down maybe an inch or so. If you think about it at this point there is little I can do about how I place them. They have to go where they have to go and that is strait off the deck and out the transom. Hopefully they will be above water when I splash it!

Ahh ha the elusive Overnighter! Hermco knows how to put a bracket on that one for sure!

Cool boat! Good luck and post lots of pictures.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas. Been working on the boat late into the evenings. It's a mess, the shops a mess, I'm a mess, but it's getting closer. I went to Svendsons today and got a few more things.... mostly hardware and rigging stuff. Gas tank is going in soon then I will paint and non skid the deck and then it's bolt the engine on time and well see how she floats!

Welcome to CSC John! That looks like an Overnighter, sort of a cross between a Seafari and a Sceptre? VERY rare boat, probably late 70's vintage?

strick 01-07-2013 03:28 AM

Fred- the carpet is from Lowes (I think) I bought it when I was re doing the bunks on the 25 seafari and had enough left over for this boat. It's outdoor carpet and has a good backing. Don't get that cheap thin stuff they also call outdoor carpet. I've been lucky in that I have a good inventory of boat stuff here from past projects. The latchs for the live well and forward fish hold were in stock as were the two Lees rod holders! The flip latches came from e-bay http://www.ebay.com/itm/200708226699...84.m1439.l2649

Bill- I was surprised that it reflects that well because the boat is really dirty right now.

Gill- We need to plan a 2 week trip! Don't know if I can do it this year as my brother is getting married in Cancun in April and then I want to plan another pilgrimage to Florida in Aug or Sept....some day :)

Appreciate the warm welcome, all.

I'll start a new thread shortly of my progress. Right now it's under wraps until March, drying out. Yes I believe it's an Overnighter and it looks like the same model as the yellow one on Hermco's web site. Trying to get some additional pictures as a reference.

Workinprogress, Yes, I bought it from Bruce, he said it's been for sale for a few years with no interest. I was kind of glad it looked like it did ;)

Strick, I'll need to figure out what to do with my scuppers when the time comes, that's why my curiosity on your rational. Hope it works out as expected!

So do I :) It's going to be close. If they are slightly under water at rest it's not the end of the world as they will seal ok and since they are below the level of the deck the deck will stay dry. I used to have a 23 cc and water would start flooding up through the stock scuppers when two guys were in one corner. That wont happen with this boat now that I have routed them out the back. If I dont like the way they are after I splash it I have the option of raising them to deck level or raising the whole deck but I dont really want to do that right now.

With the engine gone now, do you have enough room to cross the tubes so Stbd exits Port and Vice Versa??
