Friday I'm thinking will be a riding around kinda day as people arrive, finding out where everything is. lots of places to checkout - we do have cell phones.
Friday night could be at Miss Vicky's in the river near the ramp, outside place with music, or go up to the Sponge Docks with multiple options - Trader Jacks is similar to Miss Vicki's Saturday on on the north bar or the southend, people can cook all day and we set up an outpost. Eating can be done out there or just do like lunch and go to dinner at the Sponge Docks - like I said lots of places to eat that we normally don't have. Hooters is another adventure on the water in the Cottee River just north of Gulf harbors. Another idea I had - there is no moon - if we have any star gazers the north bar has literally no light pollution - 0, it is quite amazing. Maybe a small bonfire and hangout, we should already have an outpost set up. The outpost can be left up from friday all weekend, nobody will mess with anything - it ain't peanut island. No place is a far run, north or south, so everyone can be quite spontanous |

I would love to see the networks do the next survival on Anclote. The bugs are brutal at night.

Ken you're not staying at the Ramada? |
Damn had a long post and lost it, but yes, all is from the boat. The best places to eat are on the water vs getting in a car anyway. Most are on the Anclote River, Miss Vickys is very close to the gulf, then the Sponge Docks and Trader Jacks which also has an outdoor deck with music. Hooters on the water is north of Gulf Harbors up the Cottee River but again not far. Really no reason to sit at the Ramada for much of anything other than sleeping and hopefully the weather will be real nice for the guys staying on boats - although there are places suitable short of a gale.
My favorite eatery at the Sponge Docks is a little place called Plakas that has a walk up window, there is a large gift shop on the river before the docks its across the street. They don't have small boat docks along there so just pull up and walk across the street - everyone has heard about Gyros but the greeks make another pita sandwich called a Souvaki that you can only get down there, its better - and yes they all still yell at each other in greek. Always reminds me of the SNL skit about cheeseburgers. I doubt anyone will be in a car for much, plenty of fuel ice bait available and 35yrs around there tells me there are more places to explore than there will be time. Bugs will not be an issue I will guide you to what Susan calls an Eggsuckindog Adventure, which because of her, really turned me loose the last 15 yrs 813-369-3256 |
Took me a while, but I'm coming. See you there.

I'd be willing to host a Friday afternoon evening get together here at my house . I'm in Gulf harbors on the south channel ,hotel is on the north Chanel. Easy ride day or night by boat to the hotel or the sandbar. Plenty of space to pull up and a big dock to visit on. Love to see the channel full of sea crafts!
|
see, told you there were plenty of places to go
How far is it up to the Cottee and Hooters, just wonder'in |
Might take 45 Minutes to get there from the hotel only because of the no wake zones. Also Catches on the river ,nice place with large outdoor tiki bar as well , good food but a little pricey.

this is shaping up to be a Large gathering !! getting pretty excited !!

Just do not allow any tent camping in your backyard.. Sandy may never leave with his zip lock tent.. |
Can tie two tougher on the floating dock, I was thinking we could drop an anchor off the back and bow into the piling dock. Should be able to park 5 or 6 that way. The rest will have to swim in! Shhhh Ken its Carla now, Had to trade Sharon in on a newer model.

Dang Bill, now I feel foolish.... Marriage licenses need to be like a drivers license.. They need to be renewed every 8 years!! ;) With a test of course.. |
Ken I do remember seeing GFS at the boat dock and his fish story at "Nuthead Island". Seems he has this old plug with prop marks on it and he claimed a toothy fish grabbed it and almost spooled his 4/0. I also remember telling him sharp hooks are a good thing. It was early in the morning, well before his coffee time...........

The fish screamed off 450 yds of 40 in no time and I had to take the rude outta gear....grrrr. I remember thinking I should put it on the ole 50, but no mate...grrr. Right before the full moon on the Wahoo ledge in 80-120. http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g.../peanut075.jpg This is what sunrise looks like for you vampires at Peanut Island. I am not allowed to drink coffee. Sandy on amphetamines is a scary proposition. |
awesome!

Reserved my room and slip today. Hopefully the wife can get off early and we can get set up and settled in before rush hour.
|
Called about reserving a slip today; they said I can just do that when I arrive, so must be plenty of dock space. Planning to anchor out off Anclote at night, weather permitting, but will have a slip in daytime to be close to the action! Anclote looks good for all but high north winds; Three Rooker Bar south of Anclote River looks good for north winds.
|
I'm getting excited about this one! I'm planning on putting in at the Belleair ramp after work on Friday. I haven't spent much time in that area boating, went to Three Rooker once but that was years ago. Looking forward to hanging out and exploring the area

The sandbar north of Anclote is the place we need to be. Hooks around on the north end and would be fine on the inside in a north wind. Can also camp there.
|
In like Flint. Spare bed if Don brings too much moonshine.
No Sheep. Who wants to fish or dive? Fish on the way in or out and dive back in. I know the Southern contingent works their boats, and they work us. A Bibe Oh 2, a 21, a 25 or 2, a possible 27, and just wow. Very cool. Slacker |
If there is enough interest I can bring a cooker to either fry fish or steam clams. I have fried a bunch of fish lately so I'm leaning towards steaming some clams. If there is enough interest I will make a run to Cedar Key and grab a bag of 100 for anyone who wants some. They are $20 a bag for the best clams you could ever want. Let me know and I'll make the run a day two before the gathering.

Moose Clams sound great !!! little garlic butter on the side and then a sack of Beer steamed oysters after the clams ... MMMMMM I am hoping we get to leave early fri morn or even after the wife gets off on thur so we can get on down there !! |

Reminder - make sure you have enough track space on your GPS's as this will be new water and it gets very very dark - hence the excellent star gazing |

Hi everyone! Just picked up our first Seacraft and this is home turf for us so seriously considering this if in town :-) Just so I'm clear as the thread is a bit long - Weekend is first in November 2013 starting with drinks / dinner in Tarpon Springs on the water somewhere on the Friday night then Sat is north end of Anclote There will be fellow Seacrafters camping on the North end over the weekend Bring boat food bait rods reel camera beer What am I missing? Hey Moose......put me in for a bag of clams!!! :)
|
That is two bags so far. Anyone else?
They are farm raised and really good size if I ask for them. I will call the "Clam House" in advance to make sure they are available and ready to go for that weekend. If we order enough they may give us a break on the price but it's a great deal as it is. Hooters gets 45 cents a clam. Read into that whatever you want.... :D |

Not much - the north bar is the saturday target, there will be guys staying on boats but I don't think anyone is tent camping. we'll post some cell phones so everybody can find each other |
Mr. Moose, that $.45 per clam at Hooters also includes the cute fanny hanging out the bottom of the orange shorts. That's the difference in price. :)
