That explains the affinity for the great Sly and the Family Stone -- nice roots music from the mangroves, man

Ok, Ok, I'm back from the motherland a little worst for wear and tear but had a great time. I would of been on the board earlier but the generators on the island powering the cell towers were powered by BRP 2 strokes and they were waiting for a shipment of factory oil and 90 octane fuel to come in so they wouldn't kill their warranty. We did ok though as our rental car was a 4 stroke. :D

And by the way... It is completely acceptable in small island cultures for old spearfishermen to wed younger, more attractive women. She was a stringer girl on a spearfishing expedition I made in the eastern Caribbean ten years ago. I fell in love and traded her father six hogsnapper for her hand in marriage and smuggled her back to the US in a 192 Igloo.
Here’s a pic of my island queen holding my stringer and gun while I was adjusting my Speedo.

Ken-Nice catch:D! Don't think for a minute that all those fake user IDs from Russia that spam CSC aren't mail order brides waiting to take down another old salt.... This place is a magnet for women trolling for that "big fish":)

DonV 01-28-2014 10:17 PM

Ya know Ken, my mother-in-law gave me and Deb a pillow a few years ago (one of those mother-in-law type Christmas presents) that says "A fisherman lives here with the catch of his life"......as far as you and Melissa, enough said!!!! Nice catch! :) :)

DonV 01-28-2014 10:19 PM

As you can see I'm on CSC versus watching the "SOTU" BS on TV.

Indeed. Who else would put up with my thoughts? Janet?

Sandy, You is some kinda' VISIONARY.....!
Long Point will be like a shake down cruise to see who's "IN". Then we got to find a Cayo between Monkey River, Belize and Livingston, Guatemala, steal a Bucyrus Erie 30B, hijack a tug and barge, motor down there and cut some canals into the island for ever-body to have a place.
We'll get one of them BRP Generators Kmoose was talk'in about, because you only git 'em serviced every 3 years, and we don't want the chain fall'in off and ever-body has to ride a Green Kawasaki Dirt bike or drive one of those Saab 96s and when the short guy yells "de Plane, de plane" it'll be a four engine Rotax powered PBY. I got everything figured out except how to get Carla's 40' Neon light what says "Tiki Bar" in great big letters and "last stop for Four Stroke oil filters next 400 miles" in little letters across the bottom, without break'in it....!

Cap`t Lloyd, this is for you.

As a young lad, I was waiting tables at the Black Swan just north of Melbourne. Great little chef owned place. Ian`s wife Paula ran the floor. They also ran the Black Tulip in Cocoa Village. c 1980-81 when I was there. A family as great places were in those days.

A supper club had opened up nearby. Casablanca. Sly was to play 2 shows that Saturday.
We all had tix for the midnight show. Well, after service we are having a glass of wine and cashing out. Waiting for some food always cooked by the kitchen at close. Not many places do that anymore. A long white limo pulls in and around the door. Someone gets out
We cant see who it is.

In walks Sly asking where the f is this Copa Cabana club? Completely wasted. We all jumped up and yelled SLY, come on in. Well, we gave him some food and many other things as we did in those days. They followed us to the club. That was a powerful band and somehow Sly pulled it off.
What a talent.

Cheers,
GFS

It's hard to believe that back then we thought that look was COOL! :p

CaptLloyd 01-30-2014 10:41 AM

Sandy,

Mention of those places do jar my memory, although the Black Tulip is still open (I don't know who runs it). Hanging out with Sly Stone had to be a trip (you were probably already on one). Did you ever witness the biker/surfer fights at the A-Frame?

As for Long Point, once again, my day job may get it the way. That weekend falls on my time frame to bring the big boat up from the Caribbean. Hopefully, I can get the boss, his kids and grandkids to finishup thier island vacations, so I can get the yacht up to Florida before the Long Point weekend. If I'm home, I'll run down from Satellite Beach, maybe sleep out in the 23WA one night, bring the 20SF down another day.

I sure it will be entertaining, to say the least:D

Lloyd

Dude, Would you get to work supervision some construction...!
Now I got to listen to Bobby Goldsboro or Neil Diamond until my ears heal! (Yuk...!)

Beside that, according to the NSA data, you are up in that Big Bend / Panhandl'in area of FLA with the 352 area code. If that be the case, according to DHS pamphlet 13, Chapter 7, section 121.b, you ain't supposed to be listen'in to music which is "generated more than one adjectent area code away from your primary residence". If that's correct you need to git focused on the Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, B-52's, Tom Petty, the CDB, Georga Satellites and bands what sound like that, not Styx, who look like they just stepped out of a Redkin commercial. If ya' keep listen'in to Styx we'll have to change your name from Heron to Cattle Egret...!

Fer homework, you'll need to study "Uneasy Rider" by the CDB until you can recite it completely and don't ferget the part about the guy what got da "green teeth".
They'll be a test at Long Point.

DonV 01-30-2014 12:00 PM

"They'll be a test at Long Point."

Wait....waaait.....wait a minute!! No one told me there would be any type of testing, especially intelligence testing, going on at LP!!! I would rather not be part of that!!! If true, camp site #79 will be fenced off with some kind of electro magnetic killer beams (my favorite option) or the mundane, everyday, generic force field to keep out testing predators.

Lloyd

Tom and Bucky still run the tulip.

The A Frame oh crap that is funny. Why did the bikers
hate the surfers? Saw a biker eat a Bud bottle at the
Thirsty Turtle once. Piece by piece.
Remember Brassy's?

All the great southern bands played there.

Anyone remember Grinderswitch?

Well, I'm a faithful follower of Brother John Birch and
I belong to the Antioch Baptist Church, and I ain't even
got a garage. You can all home and ask my wife.

He started saying something about the way I was
dressed......
Know it by heart!

cdavisdb 01-30-2014 05:00 PM

Can't say as I know who Grinderswitch was(confessing ignorance), but those lines sure are familiar. I can almost hear the tune that goes with them

Fr. Frank 01-30-2014 08:30 PM

I first saw Grinderswitch in 1976 playing at Miami Baseball Stadium as the 2nd opening band for a concert with Marshall Tucker band (featuring Charlie Daniels of all people) and The Outlaws as headliners . First opening band was BloodRock. Talk about a contrast!

I've been a fan of Grinderswitch ever since. My favorite: Pickin' the Blues from Macon Tracks album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpAoX6IxoFo

I got tickets because my aunt was dating the Plectrum Banjo player with the Marshall Tucker band.

Blessing of the Fleet?

I've been PM'd by two different members concerning my doing a Blessing of the Fleet for CSC members and their boats this year at Long Point. I'd be happy to do this.

But there's a caveat:
I take the offering of prayers and the dispensation of blessings very seriously. As a priest, these are not frivolous things to me, but one of my great privileges.

It's over 1,000 miles round trip for me, and I will have to be back in Shalimar, on Sunday morning, which would necessitate my leaving Sebastian by 2 p.m. on Saturday to head home. So if I'm taking my time, money, and effort to do this, I'd like others to take that seriously, as well. Here's why I hesitate: I went to Anclote years ago to bless Carl for his birthday at Skip & Carla's invitation, with the unspoken expectation that other CSC members would find that to be something they would like to participate in, but after 2 unsuccessful attempts at the hotel to gather people for that purpose, I simply blessed him privately together with Jeanne, and then retired to my own room with my wife and son.

So let me know if you would like this to happen. As I said, I'd be very happy to do this, but only if it is really wanted. If it's just the two members who contacted me, well, I'll catch you when you come fishing in the Destin area. But if the larger group thinks this would be beneficial, I'll come.

Pax Christi,
Fr. Frank

Dang Dave, You da' Man. You just went from -210' where Kmoose gets the big AJ's to up there where Capt. Sully flys at 36K.

But what about that Fr. Frank - Bloodrock! I got the album, but only played it three times 'cause it kinda' creeped me out. He knows everything there is to know about outboard motors, includ'in "dry-stack Mark 78's" and Southern Rock too - just amazing. You guys is some'thin.

You must have been listening to "D.O.A.", the only song of theirs that ever got any real play time on the radio, before ending up as a semi-regular selection on the Dr. Demento show.
And yeah, it IS creepy.

kmoose 01-31-2014 04:34 PM

Ok, getting back to logistics at Long Point.... Mel and I are dragging my sled down and staying in a local motel at night. I was wondering who is camping waterfront and not bringing a ride? I would gladly provide spots aboard and defer any cost in if I could park my 23 in the water behind the campsite.

DonV 01-31-2014 04:44 PM

Done deal. We have plenty of room for your boat at site 79.

kmoose 01-31-2014 05:07 PM

Thanks Don! I was going to trailer her daily but I'm much happier with her safety behind your camp then in the parking lot at the hotel.
