Did some fairing on the cap today. Almost ready for paint

Topflitegraphics 03-02-2019 07:00 PM

Also went to marine connection liquidators and found a suitable hatch for the livewell :)

Topflitegraphics 03-19-2019 04:50 PM

OK - Just struck a deal for the 130 Etec. Will be picking it up from down south tomorrow.

Now, I have to find another bracket to hang on the back...

Vezo, Part II 03-19-2019 06:05 PM

In time...

I love my Seafari 20 with the 150. Have a four blade prop to try?

It comes with a 3 Blade. Any advice on the size 4 blade I should look for?

Picked up the E-tec last night. Dropping it off at Phil's Motor Repair this morning to have it checked out thoroughly :D

Topflitegraphics 03-21-2019 08:28 AM

At Phil's now waiting for them to open. There's a 1987 23' center console in the lot. She is named "Crack a Dawn", is it a member's boat? Kind of looks as if it has not been in the water for a while

Hey Topflite- am out of town until next week. I have prop test plots of a few different props I will email if you provide me an email name. I have a ETEC 150 Ho on a 20’ Seafari. The Cyclone 17p plotted well but didnt get me to recommended WOT rpm. Also not as smooth as my High Five for watersports.
Bushwacker bought my Cyclone for Restless Lady, now owned by SSPbill.

Vezo, Part II 03-21-2019 08:11 PM

Yes, Capt Terry. I’m running, I believe, a 15 X 15 PowerTech, ELP vs. OFS?, as recommended by Bushwacker, and still can’t get to the upper max of RPM. Everything else is an approvement over three blade OMC Viper. Hull nor engine liked that prop, IMHO.

You have a high five?

High Five Prop

Hey Gofast-
Actually think it is a QST 5, supposedly an equivalent to the High Five. Initialy I could not hold 18 mph wakeboard speed. Now after updating the ETEC throttle lever, adding TFextreme cables, PerfectPass speed control and the High Five can hold +/- 0.5 mph while wakeboarding. Many consider PerfectPass (mostly on high end inboards). THE MARRIAGE SAVER!

Picked up a new (to me) bracket yesterday. Dropped it off at the blasting/powder coating shop today. It should look like new when I get it back adn I will have less in it than I sold the previous one for :)

Went to a marine flea market yesterday and scored a brand new leaning post. Did not need it but could not pass it up for jus $200.

Turns out it fits the boat better than the other one! It is about 6" narrower and does not have the rod holders so it will be much easier to get around in the boat. Time to sell the old one...

Vezo, Part II 03-31-2019 10:22 AM

Damn, was there another one available? That’s Stupid cheap, and exactly what I have in my head for the fabricator. Almost a grand all said and done.

Vezo.

Rybones 04-01-2019 02:05 AM

Mike, check out Marine connection Liquidators in Fort Pierce.

I know, that's why I jumped on it! If there were two, I would have bought both. Already sold my old one for a few bucks more than I paid for this one so a real win in my book!

Got the bracket back from powder coaters' and it looks great!! Hard to believe it is the same piece :D

Topflitegraphics 04-11-2019 10:51 AM

One step forward, two steps back - The mechanic took a good look at the E-Tec and said I am better off finding another motor :(

It has good compression but the fuel system is messed up from sitting, there is an exhaust leak at the base probably due to a bad trim & tilt assembly, the lower unit had water in it, and there were multiple overheats when he scanned it. It has about 1100 hours on it. Guess I will list it for sale as a parts motor and hopefully get my money back out of it.

Topflitegraphics 04-12-2019 10:08 AM

What about an older Yamaha F115? Found one with low hours (400) with good compression for a pretty good price. Is this strong enough given the extra weight of a 4-stroke?

Yeah, I hear that. Think I am going to keep looking. Found several Suzuki DF140s in my price range on FB marketplace and elsewhere. Going to take a look at some of those this week I think.

Did not want to let the motor situation get me down so I did a little work on her today.

Did some more sanding and the put a couple of nice full coats of primer on her to help reveal any spots that need some attention still. Based on what I am seeing, I should have it ready for paint in a day or two now. I would say it might be ready later today but the weather does not look conducive to keeping at it today.

Happy with today's progress.

So much cleaner than the old engine shroud/seat/bait station! Looks Tits!

Well, just finished shooting the transom with some color. Overall pretty happy with it although it was a little bit windy and that made it difficult to get a good gloss on her.

After I shoot the cap later this week, I think I will concentrate on cutting the hole for the live well and the plumbing it in. After that, time to hang the bracket!

Vezo, Part II 04-20-2019 05:16 PM

Man that’s sweet looking!

Topflitegraphics 04-21-2019 10:41 AM

Thanks. Getting pretty excited now. Still on the hunt for an engine but might have found a couple that interest me. One is a 07 suzuki 140 that is still on a boat so I can sea trial it. Hope to check it out next weekend if he still has it...

Capt Terry 04-22-2019 06:50 AM

Topflightgraphics Transom

Topflight-
Congrats. It is looking great. I have been casually reviewing your progress as I started my transom, but you are ahead of me. Sounds like the hull sides are original color. What product, method, gun, etc did you use for the nice finish on your transom? Looking like you may make your goal of Fathers day! I am hoping to do my first Seacast pour later today when it gets warmer in SC.
Best wishes

capt terry - the paint is Nason industrial enamel., same as I used on the sides. The gun is a harbor fright HVLP cheapy gun I got for $9.95 :)

FWIW - I have painted dozens of classic muscle cars & trucks, and several boats and have found that I can pretty much shoot any gun as long as it has been properly cleaned etc. especially with solid colors. Metallics are a little more tricky

This Angler was one of my last boat projects before this one

Capt Terry 04-22-2019 07:43 PM

Very well done and thx for your reply. Don’t think I have shot anything since my Devilbiss on all the French doors during our build in 1991 on Hidden River in Palm City. Will share a little transom rebuild info at another time.

Getting closer and closer. Painted the cap and inner transom area this afternoon. Next steps will be to cut a hole in the cap for the live well lid and then make a set of doors for the bilge access.

Made a new set of lids for the side compartments. They are 3/4" starboard so they will be nice and durable plus they sit a lot better than the old 1/2" ones. Will install hinges later today.

Decided to make the access hatch yesterday. Installed it this morning. This really helps the way she looks. Starting to look like a boat again

Rybones 04-28-2019 09:19 PM

Your boat is looking good. What year is that 928 in the background, 1981?

Topflitegraphics 05-01-2019 06:31 AM

The 928 in the background is a 1984. We picked it up as a parts car for my son's 1979. His 79's transmission went bad and we got the parts car for $500. he is swapping the 5 speed from it into his car which was an automatic.

I almost didn't get to be there for him and it would mean the world to me to celebrate both milestones on my boat with him this year...

Well, looks like I am not going to meet this goal. Finances dictated not spending the money on a motor earlier in the year so I kind of stopped working on her as diligently. That being said, I am going to mount the bracket this week, then start installing the plumbing for the livewell and maybe even install the electronics. That way once I find a decent engine to hang on her, I can get back on the water right away...

Topflitegraphics 06-28-2019 04:57 PM

Ordered a BRAND NEW 2019 Suzuki 140 today!!! Installation is set for July 16th so I plan on buttoning everything else up before then :D
