How's the V8 running? Updates appreciated.

im running a 2005 verado 275(oem 250 with a 275 ecu now). it weighs more than the 300 v8. think the 300 is about 50-60lbs lighter. should be fine far as weight....

i have a 2020 300 v8 merc used w/ 295 hours + 5 year warranty picking up in next few weeks, but wont have an update running it till the wrap comes off here in wellfleet.

The 300-V8 is running great and I’m very happy with it so far. Performance numbers are shown on the previous page.

Just had my engines 20 hour service done. Same procedure as 100 hour service. They said everything looked good. Cost $390, not too bad.

I can see having the dealer do the initial but for long term is there any issue with doing your own maintenance? Besides engine and LU oil and plugging it into a laptop I don’t know what else they would do on a 20 hour service.

Yes, I agree going forward I will probably do some or most of the routine maintenance. For the 20 hour service they scan the computer for codes, which in my case there were none. The rest of the service was changing the engine oil and oil filter, changing out all of the fuel filter(s) and replace the LU gear oil and lube the motor as necessary. Since my hydraulic steering was new and installed by them, they went over that to make sure all was correct. As I understand Mercury is pretty picky on the 20 hour check/service. I want to make sure it was performed on time and by a Mercury authorized dealer so that later on in the warranty that there was no loopholes Mercury or the dealer could try to slide through. Hopefully that would never happen but I was willing to pay $390 to insure compliance.

I think it was a good call no doubt. I would though discuss with them the fact that you are considering doing your own maintenance and what kind of records needed to maintain the warranty. Better yet, see if there is a maintenance manual available that spells out the fluid and interval requirements.
