Re: I Need A Shrink !
Thanks fellas
Thats a good piece of advice about heating the tube to make it stronger....I never thought of that. I guess I got lucky with the Cetol...to be honest I did not put much thought into which teak product to get. The guy at West Marine mentioned the article in Power Boats so thats why I went with it. I put 3 coats of it on the teak..did not sand in between coats. As far as when to cut the holes thats kinda like six one half a dozed or the other. I dot see any real advantage to doing it before paint other then it may save a tiny bit of fairing and paint. It's just the way I do it. If I had a real large area to cut out I may do it prior to paint. Thanks again...more photos to come soon. strick |

Re: I Need A Shrink !
Seems like there is always something going on that keeps me from working on the boat. We have company coming over this evening so I better post now.
Backing plates cut for the radar arch and cleats http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/503.JPG table for two http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/504.JPG Fuel/ water fills and vent on the port side. There is another fuel fill on the starboard side http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/508.JPG Most of the wiring is going to run under the gunnel cap on this boat but I wanted to put in a chase tube so I could easily run whatever after the deck is sealed up. The boat had a hole cut inside the cabin beneath the helm for the steering cable. I ran some 3" abs under the deck to the engine compartment from this hole. I had to put in a round access deck plate so I could do the plumbing. This is a just in case chase tube. A couple shots showing this: http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/510.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/512.JPG Installing thru hull fittings these are for the two bilge pumps http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/513.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/514.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/515.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/516.JPG Installing thru hulls for the live well overflow and the end of day drain for the dead fish box and live well. As always, beautiful work and terrific planning. She is blossoming before our eyes.
The last shot of the plane is quite something. Isn't that an old Beaver model plane, so often used by the bush pilots in the northern outback? (I am probably going to catch H--l for the wording, but it is all correct in its context.) |

I guess I didn't make the connection with his apparent close proximity to your place Chuck. I thought like most of us, he was 2000+ mi. away and had never actually met you. To me, the wording seemed a little harsh, even for this good natured site and its terrific sense of frivolity.
I apologize to anyone whom I may have offended. |

Looking good Strick! Where`s Capt.Chuck with that Ice Cube video when you need him? :D |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
strick,
Got a couple questions. First, I see the 1500 gph bilge pump under the cabin sole. What are you planning for the engine compartment? Second, Are you going to add a bow rail, or are you planning on going without? BTW, she's looking real sweet. The seat boxes are killer. I also like the PVC hose you used. It's pricey, but IMO much better than most of the alternatives. Dave |
Re: I Need A Shrink !

Dave- I have another 1500gph sitting under the engine. I am going to put a bow rail on it...kinda a must have item. I was going to use the one from the other boat but it's in too bad a shape because all the fittings are old. I'm talking to a guy right now that can weld one up for me. Got the trim tabs installed this evening. Fuel tanks go in this weekend. Waiting on my helm pump and seats still. Hope to get lots accomplished this weekend. Still have lots of wood work to do inside the cabin. strick |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
Wow, looking great! I need to remount my raw water pump that looks identical to yours that you mounted on the stringer. The original owner had mounted it to the inside of the transom  and it fell off. Would you recommend mounting my pump on one one of the stern stringers as you did?
|
Re: I Need A Shrink !
WOW. She is gorgeous. Your attention to detail is impressive. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you've done this before. ;)
I'm confused, though. Are you in CA or AK? :D |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
Mitchman-
I don't see anything wrong with mounting it back on the transom as long as the holes are sealed. Too Fly- I live in California but have spent quite a bit of time in Alaska. Those pictures are from a friend of mine. I'm in capable of taking good quality pictures speaking of pictures here are a few of the tabs and teak swim platform. The tabs are Lenco 16x12 (thanks to Bigfluke for helping me with the size and mounting location) The swim platform is just screwed in place for now. I will remove it for the out drive installation and drill out the holes in the transom for thru bolting. Bushwacker I know you wanted that swim platform mounted lower and so did I but unfortunately the mounting brackets line up over the trim tabs. Re engineering the bottom of the swim platform is something I did not want to have to think about right now. There will be a slide out ladder mounted to the bottom of the platform. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/542.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/543.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/544.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/545.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/546.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/547.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/548.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/549.JPG strick |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
Nice job on the swim platform / deck. that's a BIG one. How high above the waterline is it? Are the stripes at the waterline?
|
Re: I Need A Shrink !
Very nice, two questions, what type of helm chairs are you going to mount on the boxes and where did you get your rubrail, or did your clean the old one up. It looks great.
ET |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
Thanks fellas
I'm not sure were the water line is going to end up but judging from photos I've seen it should be close to the top boot stripe which would put the platform about 8-10 inches above the water line. The rub rail is the original rail. When I got the boat it was already polished and wrapped in bubble wrap. The hull on this boat was in really good shape except for some spider cracks in the top cap and a bunch of man made holes that needed to be filled. Now I'm cutting my own holes all over the place Seat http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/wise.jpg strick |

Re: I Need A Shrink !
Progress has been Slow but sure over the last several weeks. A milestone was getting both fuel tanks finally
installed. I needed to make some modifications to the the bulk head where the fuel lines ran through in order to keep a gradual slope dowanward to the tanks. Installing the sending units. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/550.JPG Some goodies that the welder left inside the tanks. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/551.JPG Tanks in place. The boat is a work of art. Will you use it or put it under a glass dome and admire it? |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
BEAUTIFUL work Strick! That's gonna be a GREAT fishing AND cruising rig! I see you have one spare hole in the instrument panel - might want to consider putting a vacuum gage there. It can tell you a lot about engine performance!

Re: I Need A Shrink !

Denny- The extra hole is for the other fuel gauge. I will probably install a vacuum gauge at some point if I like the way the IO handles and services. If it gives me trouble then off it goes as an artifical reef and a bracket with twins will take it's place. I was going to try and find that thred were you were discussing vacuum with Conner. strick |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
wher is the gas gauge

Re: I Need A Shrink !
Strick,
You could use a 3-position switch on the senders and then read both tanks with the same gage . . . would save drilling a hole for another gage! Here's a link to the post on the vacuum gauge. |
Re: I Need A Shrink !
Beautiful Doc,
When you first mentioned painting her grey, I had impure thoughts. It is nothing close to what I had pictured in my mind. Very tasteful and subtle. Somehow it makes her seem as if she`s in the water. I forgot to mention that I think you will have trouble changing the handles on the ball valves. Can you rotate them for better access or is there no room? Who made the all bronze seacock? I`m just finishing up a plug for a mold. It`s for another Flintstone idea of mine. Small part for fishing. Had I not gotten the sickness, I would not have had the trail of bread crumbs for inspiration. Thanks a bunch for the time you spent documenting your travails. Cheers, Sandy. Sandy 3 Mutton 0 Yum! Cool and cloudy too. :D |
