Quick morning post before I head out the door. My day job has been busy for the past few weeks so I have been working on the boat mostly at night. Lisa says she is a "boat widow" right now. My response was I'm almost done just hang in there a little longer.....plus Im taking her and the dog to the beach on Sunday :) Gotta give a little once in a while.

Here are a few quick pictures :)

Looking Gucci, strick. But you'll have to wait to get the proper stamp from Capt Chuck...

Curious, what is the backing on the teak dash boards. Is that phenolic or other resin board and what is its purpose. Spacer and fit alignment?

Did you cut the elongated slot on the motor mount to simplify height adjustment or do they come that way:cool:.

strick 01-18-2013 02:45 AM

Gil-

The backing is oak veneer panel board. For the glove box and gage panel I ripped some 2x2 teak into 1/4" strips and they are glued to the backing with west systems epoxy. The steering pod is two pieces of teak glued glued the same way. I was able to use scrap teak (over 30 years old) that I have been saving for such a project.

1 There is no such thing as scrap teak:D

2 The white stuff is oak veneer panel board?

3 The sliding bolt slot? standard or your cut?

Know what you mean. My current project is Julie's Kitchen. Gotta even up the deal somehow. Julie deserves it for all she's put up with from me.

Everything is looking good on your Sceptre, as expected. When do you think you'll be ready to launch?

Sorry I was half asleep last night. Scrap and teak should not be used in the same sentence. Yes it it oak veneer I believe 3/16" or 1/4" I will take a look. It was laying in my scrap pile. The two smaller dash panels have 4 pieces of 1/4" teak glued to the surface of the oak veneer.

The motor has the slots already built into the mounting bracket. There is one more hole below the slot as well. I will take a close up pic and post it.

Dave- do up a kitchen thred and post it for us :) I dont know when it will be ready....maybe in another month? or sooner? I'm just taking it nice and slow now as I don't want to screw up the rigging. I'm not very mechanical inclined and it intimidates me. :)

What type of sealer or varnish did you use on the teak?

Fred it's the same stuff that I used on the 25 called Cetol. Three coats sanding in between.

Transom redo and a Hermco bracket down the line.

Thanks again

There's one you don't see every day.

Post some pics along the way.

Work is never really done on a boat but the little 20 sceptre is about as complete as you can get. All there is left to do now is to calk around the engine and live well hatches. Finish installing the GPS and fishfinder touch up paint some little dings and screw ups, get the engine height and prop right after the christening and test drive which will take place later this morning. Bill came over yesterday and we got the bracket mounted on the Yellow Tsunami. Now that the 20 sceptre is complete I can focus some attention back to that boat which I have been neglecting over the past several months. Since I have a lot of pictures I will just get to posting them.

Wow!!!

Islandtrader 02-03-2013 10:39 AM

I am going to be biased to the color combo...since I am doing something very similar.

Love the seats...however in FL. you would burn your A$$ off with the dark blue.

If my wood windshield does not work it will go white...yours looks very sharp in that color.

Excellent job on the 20 a real looker :D...what's the plan for the 23?

Snookerd 02-03-2013 11:25 AM

Looking forward to the splash pics.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. It's a lot of work but it's very very rewarding when it's all completed. Bill, Lisa and I launched the boat this morning. Lisa christened it with a brand new bottle of cheap champagne. Another more expensive bottle is awaiting our indulgement later this evening. Capt Chuck for the the Gucci sticker!!

Everything went well with the launch. The motor is way too low. Note all the spray in the running photos. Trimmed up its not so bad. I have already raised it two more holes so we will see how it does on the next test run. The flotation bracket is doing it's job. The scuppers are about 2 inches above the water line at rest. I am very happy with the the way the boat sits in the water and how it performs. There is hardly any bow rise out of the hole. She cruises effortlessly and the 4 stroke seems perfect for this boat. Plenty of power. WOT is at 5500 RPM so we will see how much more I gain now that the motor has been raised. Hopefully it will be closer to 6000. Here are a few more pictures and a sketchy video for your enjoyment.

strick 02-04-2013 11:34 PM

Fred the seats are from Overtons:

http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...A&merchID=4006

They are the perfect size for this boat. I set the helm seat back a little further then the other side. For me it is comfortable to sit or stand the way I have it set up. I have to lean down a little when standing ( I'm 5'10" ) so if you are taller then you may want to get a tilt steering wheel. I have a suicide knob on the wheel but can still clear my legs but it it close. I had the same worries as you but it worked out OK for me. The little rubber stops came from Orchard supply The one on the windshield was a solid rubber stop and I drilled out the center so a ss wood screw could attach it to the window frame. The one on the center hatch has a brass insert with threds and I have it bolted to the center hatch with a ss machine screw. Calked the fuel tank hatch and the perimeter of the live well this evening. Hope to have blood on the deck soon. Sandy thanks again for the compliments :) Hope you get your boat soon.
