ok ok good. just wanted to make sure it was worth posting still!!!
I did a little filling and grinding this afternoon, I cleaned the garage with my workers for the last hour of the day as it was a mess. It amazes me how much garbage you produce restoring a boat. anyway I used the pastry bags and took a pc of it to show how they work. by now you know, I get messy with putty and fillers. I am like a little kid! these bags make it much more controllable on how much to apply. |

it was also time to put the console back in the boat for some measurements and to get feeling if I was missing anything. I am happy with the way it looks , livewell height along with the console and leaning post fit the profile of the boat.
next up is a little more tabbing, scuppers, and cut some holes for stuff. I am also gonna build a panel in the console to cover the livewell. |
At 18,000+ views people are watchin'! Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming

got some work done over the weekend
it was time to do the scuppers, decided to go out the side of the of the hull. I used the long pilot bit, to scallop the floor for a drain. I used a 2.5 holesaw bit. once I bottomed out I used the air saw to cut the piece out, I then proceededto core the balsa out from the inside. once that was out I cut and fit mat to the hole and wet out everything around it. once that set I ground the goobers off and back filled the entire hole with dynaglass and smoothed it out. I let that set and drilled a 1 3/8" hole from the outside to center the dynaglass from the first pilot bit. other than that I have just been tabbing and dry fitting everything I can. |

Alright so after 18 hours of driving and 400 miles of terrentail downpours the boat was dropped off at Durite boatworks. Randy is the owner and I am sure you guys know him indirectly. Randy was a sub contractor at R&R boatworks. R&R relabeled a couple of seacrafts as Conchs. Also the famed 23 ft chopped to 21 ft. Randy parted ways and opened a shop on the same famous street in Stuart next to L&H, willis marine, garlington to name a few. Randy has been at this game a long time and has forgotten more about fiberglass than i will ever know.
As most of you know I am anal OCD About alot of stuff I do and I felt randy has the same passion and focus that I can feel comfortable to have him finish this for me. He is gonna kill the final round of my 20' and cant wait to see the pics as he goes. |

Nice rebuild.
Can you give me some info on that carbide blade you attached to your router? What size, model etc. thanks. |
http://www.bodico.com/prod-Mounted_C...ades-2013.aspx
Mine is 1/2" shank 4 oal I cut one down as it was too long. Meaning i couldnt shorted it up enough in the router without bottoming out |
Love this thread! The boat is looking great and it helps keep me motivated on moving forward with mine. I cant wait to see the finished product! What type of paint are you going to be using topside, hull, and bottom? I dont want bottom paint on mine and want something that will hold up for a week or so in the water. I was told imron would be fine but have my doubts...

If you remember the paint I used was tested for 30 days in my own salt pond, the icw. and after 30 days no sign of break down... Stay away from "Pappy" ok...:D |
You're right Terry, I had forgotten about that stuff you used! What was the name of it - Insignia or something? Why not post a link to it in case others are interested.

here we go
the first orderof business was for randy to fix a hasty decision I made to squirt potter putty up under the gunnel between the cap and hull sides. the pic is of the 2 lbs of putty he ground out. after it was all cleaned he glassed the cap to the gunnel all the way around. he ground down the outside of the cap where 42 years of rub rails and what ever else was mounted an put some glass on there also. He got more glass on the rear boxes where I ran out of time do to stuff before I brought it to him. he shaped and grounded and put the 1708 down in a certain way so any of the inside angles were not cut pieces. Its amazing home much I learned in his shop in the couple hours I was there. the fairing was applied to the inside hull liner and was starting to get faired. |

he dadoed out the foam around any hatches and putty packed around them to make them solid
also a pic of the fitted scupper. and the last pic is when We were at the bar drinking..... |

I am back now but the some pics have been coming daily
randy suggested that he put a layer of mat over the entire gunnel cap to prevent any spidering from showing through the paint in a couple years. I agreed and he did it. progress being made they got the high build primer shot to the boat and now the sanding starts |

The only place I did not do it was in the V-bunk since that was going to be cushioned...and guess what? Yep some small hair lines are showing up. However fairing all that stuff out was a real PIA :p |

alright I finally got some time to post some more pics of the progress.
here is a shot of the braces put under the gunnel the next couple are of randy doing what he does best, making boats ssssssmmmmooooth Randy's son works for him and is learning the ropes of 35 years of elite fiberglass work. |

Randy laid 2 extra layers of 1708 on the inside to beef up the engine shround, couple layers of mat on the outside and started fairing and shaping. The fit is amazing, like it grew there
|

the insides have been faired out and sanded flat and smooth, the cap has been faired and sanded out. the next step is to put the radius back in the boxes and the gunnel cap. the high build primer will take care of the rest of the fine fairing.
