the console has been sent to bosch for the aluminum work then to the plastic guy for the livewell lid and windshield, and toggle switch deflector piece.
the boat will be primed in the next couple days and the rest of the rigging will take place, before paint. steering has been picked and so has the rubrail. |
wow looks great! just jumped in on this thread read the whole thing! great detail and the pics are awesome! keep up the great work can't wait to see the finished product!

Embarrassed
I'm embarrassed to admit that I picked up my new used trailer today from Melbourne and decided to swing by the shop. Well couldn't find it and didn't realize you PM'ed me his phone number :o! On a positive note I did swing by R&R and my new trailer is awesome (so far).

frizzle and waterboy thank you, really looking forward to fishing on it.
The boat is coming long with everything getting finalized for paint. The console has been to the plastics guy and to bosch aluminum for some small stuff. The hull is pretty much ready for paint and the console is on its way there. Randy suggest he put a layer of mat over the console to prevent any of the splicing from the console from cracking. I made randy keep the insignia on the from of the old engine box to remind me never use an engine box for the front of a console/livewell.... |

Billy,
Another great looking boat. . They are doing nice work and you stopped punishing yourself. What Duratec primer did they use and how much did it take for the boat? I am still punishing myself but the end is in sight |
Very nice, this boat is going to be special:)

as much as I enjoy doing the work and seeing how far I can push myself to make different things, our second child arrived last spring and my business getting busier I just don't have the playtime anymore. I am glad I brought it to Randy to finish it up and to a level I am happy with. Quote:

Very nice Bill!! Just wait until you get it painted and the "bling" installed, shiny new hardware makes it look really sweet and finished!! :)

Don it amazes me how much it changed just painted it white with primer, no more 1972 banana baby poop yellow.

Looks to me like punishing yourself is going to be well worth it. Hull and console look fantastic.

alright the boat had its final sanding and went to paint. First after all the 545 was sanded the boat was sprayed with dykem print fliud in purple to see if there were any imperfections left. after that any small voids were filled primed and then it was time for paint. the boat gets sprayed in different sections. first was the hull, then was the gunnels, then the the inner hullsides along with the console and the engine shroud. the gutter rings are getting done today and non skid on the deck and gunnel cap are tomorrow. in the last pic you can see the engine shroud placement and side profile.
here are some pics enjoy |

Nice.. it is a great feeling to know your boat has gotten to such a nice point, only more better to come !

Looking good!!
I am at the stage in my 20SF build where we are replacing the deck. Toying with the idea of cutting out the "casting platform" as you did. A few questions. It appears you left the stock cap in place. While walking to the bow, how far is the bolster away from your thighs? Can you lean on it without the inner hull tripping you up near your feet? I like the flush deck, but seems like you actually loose room because of the flare of the hull sides. I keep going back and forth on the issue. Yours looks awesome! |
Quote:
Bryan I did not like the forward casting platform, it was small and people were always falling off it . the worst is when the floor was slippery when cast netting and going on my ass. If memory serves me which was 5 months ago.... when you had your knees against the the top cap your toes were even, so your feet werent behind you. If you wanted it to stick further in you could split the top cap and move it in 2-4" all the way around which really helps mounting rod holders in the gunnel. the gunnel is very narrow in the back and with the hump that is on the inside it makes it worse. I also look at it this way, the boat is small to begin with and does it really matter if the cast deck gets you 7" higher in the front? remember you are raising the decks 3" all the way to the bow so the difference is only 7" in the end. Its way worth it to me to have a flush deck all the way around |
Good point.
I haven't decided how high to raise my deck yet, was shooting for 1" because I did not want to loose freeboard but your observations make sense. I guess I need a few more ponder beers with a few pieces of plywood to hash things out. |

alright Randy is moving right along on the project and lots has gotten done. the boat is fully painted and nonskid has been applied to the floors and gunnel cap
|

then it was time to start drilling holes and mounting hardware
I think a need a couple more rod holders..... |
2 Attachment(s)
then the modifications he made to the livewell with the glassed in sump on the back and the holes drilled through for drainage, this way the only thing in the well for the baits to swim into will be the fill
|
Looks great what kind of filter are you going to use between the pump and the bait tank to insure the holes don't get clogged ? Is there a way to clean it out?
|
no filter on the livewell pump, they get clogged to often. the holes are 3/8" I might add another row of them.
|
Enlighten me please...that many rod holders?

When we flounder fish and fluke fish we use lots of rods and its easier and safer toput them down in the rod holders. They are starting the rigging of the console tomorrow |
