I still need to do some playing with engine and prop. Want to get a little more speed out of her. :-)

drtyTshrt 06-17-2013 10:38 AM

As mentioned before. That 5k RPM slot looks good.
I bet you could go to a 19pitch and stay pretty close with your numbers.

I'm going to raise the engine up a notch.
Try a four blade.
And will try a 19".
I like what you are saying. ;-)

hermco 06-17-2013 01:36 PM

Nice clean job there young man. ;)

uncleboo 06-17-2013 05:01 PM

I agree! Beautiful work!

RUSTYNTABATHA 06-17-2013 10:34 PM

the four blade should help lift the stern at lower speeds also !! maybe even try out a 5 blade.... ;-) get speed lift and load carrying..

Perfection.... Nuff said

I will need to do the same for them to fit and get the bracket height correct.
How much rise did you use per inch of setback?

For every 12" of setback, I raised the engine an 1", or should have.
I am happy with the bracket height, it is down low enough that I get a good portion of the flotation values, I can still mount lights, thru hulls, etc, thru the main hull and it is a good height for boarding.
But I feel the engine could go higher, so I will raise it a notch.
How is your project progressing?

I thank everyone for their kind comments.
It appears as if the wind Gods may have changed their minds, the first forecast for this w/e was ESE 15-20knts, little too sporty for my taste in this boat. Now that has been revised to 11-14knts, if that is the case, I'm ouuta here!!
Final touches going on, TUUCI Top, etc.
Last is the cooler, spear, rods, fins and TM/LLL II. :-)

Calibogue 06-19-2013 06:42 AM

By next Friday I will be ready to hang the engine!
Thanks for the info....I have been dreaming of bracket heights.

Thanks for the info....I have been dreaming of bracket heights.

From everything I have read and what I have been told this is a good starting point. Most everyone has had to raise their motor up from here and never down. So make sure you leave your adjustment so you can go higher from this point so that you can fine tune it in. I am also starting at this mark and setting the motor so all my adjustment holes will allow me to go up higher if needed. ;)

Calibogue 06-19-2013 07:43 AM

My first start point is going to be set by my Lenco actuators.
I will measure, check form that point and hopefully the stars will align!

Caymanboy 06-19-2013 10:16 AM

Set the bracket, (even temporarily).
Then check the Lenco's.
The bracket height is more important than the Lenco's. :-)

Ok, got a bug up my a-- Friday. Left for the islands at 2330, arrived Cat Cay 0530.
Long slow night sluggin it on the nose, wet.
I found out something I already knew, but forgot.
The new outboards may be efficient, but none of it means a crap if you aren't able to maintain a plane. Sloggin it over there at 11knts SOG, was just burnin fuel, anehoo, I made it, but was not prepared for them NOT to have fuel.
Long story short, the "Konk lived up to her name, and had a beautiful trip home and caught a dolphin. L.I.G.!! :-)

Calibogue 06-24-2013 06:46 AM

Nice..... I miss the islands and my five YO keeps asking when we're going.
Soon young grasshopper, soon!

Caymanboy 07-15-2013 05:40 AM

So, I took the boat out again over the week end. (Will it ever stop blowing down here? Sum b----!). Aneyway, I installed a 4 blade Solas prop, 14 1/4" x 17". I knew it would change the top RPM's, I had no idea how much.
The prop changed the whole characteristics of the boat.
It planned at a lower rpm, it kept the bow down more all through the rpm ranges.
It also lost 1000 rpms and 10 kts of top end speed.
Strangely enough, there was no low end prop chatter with this prop.
I will be switching back to my Yamaha 3 blade prop, and doing some further tweaking to that.

on our journey to the keys a 2 weeks ago yeilded 1/2 day fishing in 7... after driving from the pensacola area... BUT... i did get to meet Don V so that saved part of the trip for me.... We are have an EPIC marlin and pelagic bite up here though !!! this past weekend the state blue marlin record was broken and then broken again 30 mins later during the Blue Marlin Grand Championship.. and I'm offshore. Glad She pulled the mileage to get you home... You might be able to get a 4 blade that gets very close to the same top end but lifts the stern as well. good luck !!! and again ... you and Strick are a BIG influence on my building MY boat rather than just trying to buy one..... My wife told me this past week that my baby (20MA) is to be a stepping stone to one already built or a different boat.... we had a heart to heart and she know understands whatever i have to do to make HER like the boat will be done !!! so my first big change will be coming soon.... have to plug the holes in the floor.... lol

Calibogue 07-23-2013 07:53 AM

Would you happen to have a GIF, JPG or whatever file format is needed for that classic SC logo?
I got the SeaCraft font, just need the SC logo!

I found a vector file online, hope it works!

Caymanboy 07-23-2013 11:14 AM

I do, send me an e-mail and I will send. If it doesn't work I can turn you on to my sign people.
Have you splashed the baby yet?

She rides very well but I need to get the engine back in the shop.
Will get some wet pics today.

Ok, little update on summer. Where did it go? Was back at the beginning and had these plans on taking the new boat and trawler to the Islands with LLL/TM II, and it just never panned out.
I did take the boat out a fair amount, upgraded the tunes, you do have to hear the Wet Sounds, for some of you "old" purest the removable tower speakers may be a little gauche, but they sure as h--- sound good.
LLL/TM II and I did make it to the Islands, we did the tourist thing at Atlantis, really not a bad deal, was really easy and fun. She swam with the sharks and actually touched one, she was pretty happy, was good for me. :-)
Did some anchoring in the Lake, had the ol' "Coral Reefer" and new owners stop by, nice day.
Acquired an old skiboat belonged to a friend of mine, been in his barn in Cali for the last 25 years. What a blast from the past that has been. Will be resto-ing it this winter, (that will be a different thread.)
Anyway, summer is over, shop is busy, got some good projects going on with more on the way, some will be posted here.

RUSTYNTABATHA 09-15-2013 07:39 AM

GREAT POST !! I live vicariously through your pics ... sad i know.. I have been on my wife for years to live ( even if only part time on a boat ) ....we did atlantis about 7 years ago... it was very cool.. Cant wait to see the other resto's... also ... what size are the wet sounds mounted in the console and do they make a sub / tube yet ???

Caymanboy 09-15-2013 08:08 AM

Thank you.
Speakers in the console are SW808's, effin awesome sound.
The only people I know that make a tube sub is Bazooka, I've had and installed many, they do what they can with the space they are in, all in all I'm happy with them, does the job for me and I have never had warranty needs from them.

I'm going to the website for the soeakers... I have my 10" bazooka (auto) in my boat and take it in and out currently because they dont make the bazooka compition for marine use.. think i am going to build a box for a single 12" but i have Lowrance and pyle 6.5's for now and may be looking to upgrade ove the winter.. ( just haven't told the wife yet...lol) the Lowrance ( fusion) are pretty good ... the Pyles are cheap and sound just like you would expect for "cheap" and the more my wife drinks .... the more the volume is pushed up... so i figure over the next couple months i'll have sufficently destroyed them to warrent telling the wife .... i told you we couldn't play the music that loud with out upgrading to ( .... ) speakers ... and thats when i strike ..LOL

wattaway2 09-15-2013 05:57 PM

Rusty don't tell her you need to up grade the speakers just say SHE blew the old ones and obviously we need better ones NOW!! LOL

DonV 09-15-2013 07:03 PM

"and thats when i strike ..LOL"

Oh yeah, I can see it now as you completely miss and "crash and burn"!! :)

thats just wrong....LOL ... i'm smart enough to tear the speaker foam and then let her turn up the music so it has the PPPPFFFFFFPPPPPTTT instead of bass... then i give her that what did you do look ... lol followed by .. i guess i'll have to order new ones... but i usually already have them hidden in the shop !! i have my eye on some already.. and when i order i'm adding 2 more for a total of 6 + the sub...
Gonna try to keep up with Ole !!... Just cant afford the wet sounds.. on less he cuts me one HELL of a deal.... HINT HINT>>> lol

wattaway2 09-16-2013 05:39 AM

Rusty if you can keep up with him my hats off to ya ! He'll I'd consider myself lucky to stay within a block of him Lol

should have clarified the " keep up with Ole "... to his sound system on the boat.... and the life stories he tells are the things that keep my dreams alive and pushing my wife towards living if only part time on a boat...

We can talk, speakers that is. ;-)
Life ona boat ain't bad, it's not for everyone. Should prepare for no space.
I love it, a bigger boat would be nice, so would some bigger other things, but I make do. :-)
Just go into with your eyes (and your wifes) wide open.
There are many couple who make it and thrive.
I certainly am not ready to give it up, not yet, keeps my head screwed on straight. Maybe---.

Ahhh the West side, quiet side, my accountant lives in Charlotte Harbor, she loves it there.

Every summer I prepare for it to be slow, every summer we are not, usually have one good project keeping me going, this summer it did not happen, we where slow June and July, and by slow I meant we where getting the shop clean, nothing drastic, then in August it opened up and now running into mid Sept I'm healthy through the rest of the year. Can't explain it, because normally Sept and Oct are slower.
We have some good stuff going, with more on the way, plus the regular service work.
Trying to find good (even not so good) people to work is tough.

Caymanboy 09-18-2013 06:20 AM

We don't do no effin A/C over here on the East side, when we want conditioned air, we open the roll ups.
Shhhhhhhhhh, don't let my people in the shop hear you are installing a/C. ;)

RUSTYNTABATHA 09-18-2013 06:23 AM

My Nuddy thet does canvas and upolstery up here has A/C in his shop... Its nice helping make cushions and have a nice cool workspace... but its not a huge shop.. and only him working..
