Careless People

I am sure this happens to everyone but here is my vent. Went fishing last weekend and caught some really nice fish, 1 25" keeper and a ton of shorts, probalby 150 nice grunts and had turtles going past the boat all day. We were achored 20 miles out in the gulf and had two boats drive directly over our achor line within 25' of us, the 1st one was on a full plane the other was displacement speed. What is with people? I have always tried to be courteous and respectful when on the water. The bright side was they spent a half hour trying to anchor and then caught nothing while we kept catching fish after fish. Renee wanted to drive up all nice to them, and then pelt them with pounds of squid and sardines :D I was tempted. On the way in we came across a 25 aquasport Wa, looting stone crab traps NW of Anclote, We tried to notify FWC but to no avail. I believe they will get what is coming to them.

Happens to me all the time. Sometimes stupid people, more often than not, people trying to get my numbers. Two ounce sinkers work better than squid!!!

It is not just on the west coast. Here in Palm Beach it is a frequent occurance for people to run up on you. People are just rude and don't care.

Im gettin' a beanbag riot gun!
How bout one of those to the chest, of the person on the flybridge! I know it sounds hateful, but sometimes folks gotta pay "stupid tax".
In the gulf I had divers on several occasions run up on me, cut the chum bag we had down low, spook the fish.

Because of the crowds off Miami I have altered my fishing plans for some times and months.
I don’t fish on the reef during the day in July and August just at night or I troll for dolphin and go deep dropping in 600 to 1200’
I go to the ramp at 5:00 AM for day time fishing or 5:00 PM for night time stuff only.
I usually back at the dock by 2:00
I don’t go on the water during holiday weekends like the 4th.
And the biggest one If you can go during the week.

This helps

During the spring kingfish/king mackeral run, the area off Juno and Jupiter turns into a floating city - has for 25 years. With my old 25 Mako, I used to anchor in 120' using 275-300' of anchor line. One evening, I had no less than four boats foul my anchor line, which you had to approach within a boat length to do. I called the MP on the last guy, because he severed my 3/4" line after running over it with his inboard Fish Nautique and getting seriously fouled. Upon getting free, he flipped me the finger and boated away. I was in the company of 2 other boats, one of which had dive gear on board, so we were able to recover the anchor and line.

With the report from the Marine Patrol in hand, I filed in small claims court and got the $250 for a new 600' spool of anchor line. (20 yrs ago) But without witnesses from other boats, I'd have never recovered that money.

BTW, I didn't actually buy new anchor line, I just spliced the old one :D

A trick I have found that works for me in my flats boat. I take the motor cover off and set it on top of the polling platform.

People think your broke down and stay away so they don't have to help. ;)
