Plans: fix the obliterated stringers, raise deck, new transom, modify console, hopefully we'll get to replace everything with new goodies.
One of the most important things on the list is widening the gunnels from the transom forward about 9 feet. I need them beefed up a little bit (like Mark's/OldBull's 20) for boarding and rod storage. As for the stringers, I'm not sure whether to use a mold of a 4x4 or something and just heighten them and fill em with foam, or just do some grinding and start over with laminated plywood. I think for convenience sake I'll just keep the old ones... |

Nice work. Did you know ahead of time that your stringers were damaged? If so, how did you check them?

The boat had a really weird flex to it, I'm talkin about feeling every minor wave right under your feet and a really soft deck- you could tell something was off. The deck wasn't necessarily rotten but the tops of the stringers were just gone so it had nothing to rest on. There were a couple warped areas around the console though. I just wanted to start over and fix everything so a full restore was the plan from the beginning.

90" with rubrail off in a 92" garage... the driveway was the tough part though.
Tied it to a tree and drove forward, got the transom touching the ground and then cranked it in a little so it was just balancing. Got in a little deeper tonight... Cut out aft boxes and got back the rotten plywood out. Slow and boring, but progress. The demo is the worst part.
When we raised the height to 25" a couple years ago we made a bandaid out of 1/4" plywood on the outer skin that has no chance off being taken off now. I'm thinking the best way to get rid of it is to cut it out completely. If you have a 4.5 inch grinder, try 36 grit sanding discs. That should remove the plywood pretty quick. Go with 50 or 80 grit when you get close to the original glass.
