1971 Seafari I/O 6 volt batteries
Regarding battery location on 1971 Seafari I/O
Did Potter utlizie 2 small 6 volt batteries. I can only find a small narrow tray on the starboard side of the engine compartment,,looks like two small 6 volt batteries could fit. Any suggestions on where to mount 2 twelve volt batteries!!! Thanks Fred |

At the rear of the boat, under the two insulated coolers, not ideal, but they fit, barley.

Re: 1971 Seafari I/O 6 volt batteries
Fred,
There are some fairly small 12V batteries; I think Group 34 may be one. Go to some battery manufacture's web site and they'll have dimensions of all the different batteries. The Optima red top battery is fairly small and also light, but I'm not to sure about their durability. I've had one for several years and no problems so far, but I don't use it much since it's my backup. The battery/electrical guy I've dealt with for about 35 years said he dropped them after about 6 months; said they didn't hold up under heavy use. He recommends Deka. Denny |

Re: 1971 Seafari I/O 6 volt batteries
Fred, that narrow battery tray is built for a single long, narrrow, low-profile 12v battery. Only the i/o used that battery. A friend of mine has a '73 Seafari i/o with the same battery tray. He buys his batteries direct from Interstate.

Re: 1971 Seafari I/O 6 volt batteries
The battery is a 3EE battery, commonly used in industrial applications, i.e.; forklifts, generators, apu's, etc.
it is available via special order from both Exide and Interstate. |
