would this be a good motor for a 23 savage i cant find much info on these motors i know it must be heavy i did find a pic of a seacraft with a 300 merc on a sc i know back in the day they most of used these motors

I think these were the V-8 engines, might want to double check. If it is, bring out your BIG crdit card 'cause they eat gas like beyond crazy.

I think there was a very short run of those monster Mercs, 3.4 liter. You will burn fuel like a space shuttle, even for an old 2smoke. Same deal with the old thirsty v8 omc's.

so even if i get the motor for almost nothing it will still put a hole in my pocket bummer

workinpr0gress 09-28-2011 10:59 AM

I wouldnt say all that. Parts are plentiful enough for those old v8 omc's. They are reliable, simple. Huge. Thirsssssssssssssssssssty, plus the oil to go with the gas.

I had one on a 25 Oceanic and it pushed the boat close to 48 on the GPS and mine even had power steering!
It took me everwhere and I mean everywhere..Bahamas at least 15 times Tortugas 3 times countless times to Elliot Key and the Florida Keys not to mentione all the local fishing and bar hopping outtings.

It does like the gas but hey it's a V8 and it pushes a fairly large boat full of stuff and gas was 50 cents back then

But for free you can buy a lot of gas with the savings

anyone have an ideal of the numbers i could get. my last boat a 20 seafari with a 175 and id drink 50 gallons plus in a day thats why i got the 23 with 130 gallon tank now. ill be going out atleast 2 time a week. i wont mind if its not to killer on gas. it also is 550 pound is that to heavy

I think the OMC V8 was 2 of their V4s stacked on one another

When I would run Miami Beach to Bimini I would burn 40 to 45 gals it was 51 miles from my house dock to Bimini....... If you opened up it was another thing and yes I would get up and go but I would need to visit the gas pump ealier
