Sceptre transom rebuild
 

Started my transom job today. As i was cutting it out i realized that the guy that i had do it 4 years ago used pressure treated wood. What a "No No" that was. I was worried that the oil in the pressure treated did something to the laminate so i pulled both inner and outer out. Not my plan. He did not go all the way up either as you can see in the photos and all the top was completely rotten. I have three months to get this done cause i want to go back fishing.Try to get photos not used to the new method files are too large. What is the trick

Holy moly!!!! I'm impressed. I went as far as the inner skin when I replaced my transom. However I sorta wish I went as far as you did, THEN it would have forced me to call Hermco to go with one of his brackets on a solid transom.

Yeah i wanted to go with solid transom with bracket but i would have had to change alot of my rigging. I wasn't even sure what i was going to run into, so it is all being replaced and going back to the same way it was.

Not all marine ply is compatable with Poly or Vinylester. Oil in the glue or treat is not a treat at all.

Ask here to avoid the road to nowhere. My compass is spinning. Is that a problem?

pressure treated plywood can not be fiberglassed...

Well i had a hell of a time digging it out, but the thing was that it did not adhere to the inner skin nor the outter it just came off too easy. I found this kind of odd because he used "SHEET ROCK SCREWS" to keep it tight to the inner skin. (Bonehead move) Be careful of fiberglass guys in Tiverton RI won't mention any names. Come on CSC learn from the people who have done it and "Do it yourself"

Thanks for posting the link. I guess the APA says it's ok to use PT plywood in a laminate if it's been re-dried. So, no Home Depot PT plywood.

Hermco do you agree that the resin will be ok bonding to the wood that has the pt oil in it?
