Oil tank location
 

On a 20 SF - where do most of you guys have your oil tanks mounted? Inside the console or in one of the transom boxes?

I have room in either, trying to decide which is the smartest place.

Mine is under console been there for 11 years all ok...

The rear hatch area can get wet ,my dealer that put on my motor said best spot on my 20 cc was under the console

Thats what i wanted to hear. I have plenty of room in either location.

How often do you spill oil inside your console when you try to fill your tank?

Mine is in the rear box - console is for clean stuff - good point

Was on operational Nd had damaged the motor when i got it So after rebuilding the motor i premix and removed the tank it was in the port transome box. I built a 6 gal baitwell instead dor the spot Rather then rebuilding the old floor well
i thought if i buy a new motor i could put the oil tank in the floor well
would that be a working spot gravity wouldnt be a factor would it ?

Old thread I know but hoping for so e related help. I'm moving the oil tank from the starboard aft seat storage to under the console. The engine is a 115 yamaha. Do you think the pump is powerful enough to move oil from here to the engine tank? I'm guessing it's about 15 feet the way the hose has to run. Thanks. Also any yamaha guys know the part number for this hose and what length it comes in?

We've had a Yamaha Precision Blend oil tank under the front of the console on our 18 Sea Craft since rigging it with a new 130 in 2000- no troubles, and the oil pump likes the dry location- no contamination or oil pump issues in 600+ hours. I set it up in the center between two batteries in boxes oriented for and aft so that the fill cap was accessible for replenishment without a funnel from the front of console seat hatch, but there is space in front of the batteries/ oil tank for safety gear, tools, spares, etc- I'd do it the same again.

Good to know. Thanks. Now I need to find the oil hose in the length I need. Any ideas on that? I found the part number but it does not say how long it is.

I moved mine under the cosole also. It's a lot easier to access the small, inline filter there.
