I have gone to The Dark Side

Well CSC, its been a great run. But I just picked up a 85' Mako 224 (eeekk) thought I would be back in another 20 or 23 csc but they are just too expensive and in need of a ton of work on top of it all (what was in my price range). Hope to be back one day. But we'll see. Thanks for all the info I picked up from you gents.

Enjoyed having you around. Good luck with the Mako and make sure to get you some good raincoats and beanbags to sit in. :D

I've got a '85 Scepter I want to partially part out, but I was going to auction the hull, etc. on the site and donate half of the gross to the care and up keep of this terrific site.

If anyone is interested in hearing more PM me.

I turned down a couple free ones, here is what I ran into.....

Mako hull (free)
minimum materials for rebuild: $3000
your time: worthless to priceless
trailer: $1500
used motor: $5000
rigging: $2000

Secraft hull:$3000
minimum materials for rebuild: $3000
your time: worthless to priceless
trailer: $1500
used motor: $5000
rigging: $2000

so your seacraft is going to cost you a small portion of the overall cost. This is for a barebones boat too! If you put nicer stuff and a new engine on it, the hull cost is almost inconsequential.

Now go look what a restored mako and a restored seacraft will re-sale for :) You will more than get your $3k hull cost back when you go to re-sell. In fact, going with the free hull will probably cost you money in the long run.

I had a nice mako 22 that I had listed for free and could not give it away! I got it for free and should of never touched it. I thought I could sell it for $200-$300 but oh no. I finally sold the trailer it was sitting on for $300 bucks and told the guy that got it that it was $350 with out the boat of $300 with it, he said "did you say that backwards?", No sir, I want $50 more if you want me to take it off. The dump is 7 miles up the road and it cost $30 to dump it. I can do it for $50 or you can drop it off on you way out for $30 your choice. I never had a problem selling a SeaCraft, they are worth at least $500 in any condition. I thought mako was about the same but found out the hard way it wasn't and that's after listing it on Mako.com. The THT, Craig's list, and the local paper for 3 months!

Trust me guys I love SeaCraft's and I will probably end up with a 23 or newer 25 one day. But right now I cant afford a project and want to be in the water this summer. For the 4k that I spent on this Mako (Solid floors, hull, transom,t-top,) its all there and just need to spend some time and not as much money to do some electrical work and fuel lines. That was the biggest deal maker for me. One day I hope to be back though.

Looks like a deal for 4k. You won't kill that ocean runner, but it'll do a fine job of cleaning out your wallet!

Not a bad deal for the money, Good thing about the motor it will run a long time if kept up even tho it drinks a little. I like the older 2-strokes, don't get me wrong, I would love to have a new opti but you can find parts for older ones cheep and rebuild these for a lot less money. What you save on buying a newer motor will buy you a lot of gas! Good thing is the gas can be bought as you have the extra cash, the new motor is all at once. May be a small down grade from a seacraft but a mako is still a lot better than a lot of other boats out there for sure. Getting out on the water is whats important sometimes. You may of shook up the purest here but Good luck with the mako, hope she takes you out for may enjoyable days in the sun.
