Why have I been hiding lately?
Well, I bought a boat! I have had the survey done (needs some work but structurally very sound) on a 1979 23 Center Console!
This was a boat I drooled over a few months back and wanted badly but wasn't able to move until now. I'm really not ready to move now but I didn't want to miss this one again since it came available again. The price? I quit smoking for it ! With a little luck - the transport company will pick it up on Tuesday morning and it will be in Mass before next weekend! Does anybody want to buy 2 Big Engines ?? Here is a pic or 6: http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/79...aft2.sized.jpg ... And the rest are here: http://www.theboatzone.com/gallery/7923 |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?

Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Congratulations! Now the rest of us can welcome you as a fellow SeaCraft owner. That is one sweet looking ride and a Potter built one as well. Nice electronics and t-top. Please tell us what you plan to do as far as power and mod's. Good luck and what's her name?
|
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Thanks guys! Yes - definitely going with a single. Not sure yet what but we'll see on that. Power & mods? Not a lot right now. Big thing is selling the twins and getting a single engine. Anyone need some twins cheap ? Well, "cheap" in FL and "cheap" in Mass are two entirely different things.
Mods? Remove most of the teak. See how far forward fuel tank extends to determine if porta-potti for my wife is an option . Bow dodger... Not too sure what else. No brackets at this time. The transom is solid (was done over a few years ago) and even though its the shorter transom, it ain't going if it doesn't need to go... Power winch for the trailer - this has already started off as a bad back year. The last too years were good years. Name? Not sure yet - was thinking "Father's Day" or "Surfcrafter" as that's where me & my sone will be spending time in a couple years... until he's old enough to do the most challengine Surfcasting... |

Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
John,
Conratulations! The spending has only just begun. What are going to give up for the new motor? More important, congratulations on quiting smoking. I used to smoke too, but that another story. I gave up competative amateur golf for boating. I figured out there's no scorecard in boating and if you have fun, you won. Best of luck. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Regards, Otto |

Attah boy I like "Surfcrafter" by the way thats a great name !! |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
I knew it !
I'm checking everyday, here and at your site, wondering if you done the deal - figured no news was good news (being that you're wicked superstitious), so I wasn't asking. Congrats John, that looks like a sweet rig, if anyone deserves an old SC it's you.Twin 235's, you are gonna take it for a run before you yank them off aren't you? It must fly! Good luck with it - see you in Rhody (vaca week 7/19 - 26 this year) Bill |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Awesome! Congrats John - she looks like she is in fine condition - get rid of the teak, throw an engine on and you are ready to go! I am going through the same project as we speak with a '77.
Real nice looking craft!!! |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
I wonder if there has ever been a SeaCraft bought by a person more aware of what is out there in the Potter built SeaCraft market?!
With all the "finds" that John has passed on, and the possibility that he will be spending just a bit less time on boattrader.com, who shall we turn to for info on the second hand market now?? Congratuations, I hope you get many years out of one of the best riding boats around/ mark |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Congrats John, A while back you couldn't even spell "SeaCraft Owner"...now you are one!!!

Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
John,
Awesome you now have your own personal MONEY PIT!!!. JW |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Just in time for bass season! I hope you
catch a 40 pounder this year. I'm sure your son will love the boat also. Congrats on quitting smoking! Shoot me a email if you need anything. |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Thanks again guys.... It seems to be a decent balance of what I want. Structurally all there but enough "project" stuff to warrant a decent price...
Mark - please don't confuse me with being an expert. All I've done this year is pass up on boats I can't afford or havr time to work on. I just wanted to find the best balance for me. The fact that it happens to be a dagnasty Potter Hull and that being in FLA does not have the Mass or Rhody 25% import tax is enough... Seafari - I'm gunning for 60 pounds - fishing from WH & Cutty to Block & Fishers (how far are you from Montauk & Fishers?)... My goal is still to get a 50 pounder Striper from the beach and an 80-90 pound RoosterFish .... JohnG the engines are twin 235's - that's why they will go... want one? Otto - thanks for the encouragement. Quote:

Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
BTW - what's on BT? Have not looked at all in weeks
|
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
John, don't you mean two THIRSTY five ? That boat must move out with those on engines on there 60+ ? If I remember right they are very thirsty engines. I don't think I could feed those baby's unless they ran on salt water. Your going to have fun with that this summer!

Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
What marina will you call home?
|
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Jon - that's why they will be sold - all I need is a single anyway...
What marina will you call home? RIRED - My driveway ... I may have uncovered a deal at a local Warwick Cove / EG Bay marina but unless the deal happens, it's getting trailered. Besides, I'm going to want to run it over to Fishers out of the Pawcatuck, Cutty from Dartmouth, Block from PJ and Boston harbor with te live macs so the trailer will be good too,,, |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Congratulations!!!! I remember seeing that boat on-line and even calling about it before I found mine. The man said it was sold when I called the first time so I left it at that. It looks to be in great shape. I just dropped my 75' 23cc of at a T-Top builder this afternoon. It's getting a nice top with outriggers. The fun just starts when the boat gets home. Everyday I find more that I would like to do. Congratulations again.... patience pays off.

Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Congrats John...it's all about patience as you well know. Must have some insane fuel capacity running those hogs. If you're going single, you might be able to pick up substantial storage(maybe a livewell)
You gonna keep the bow rail? Isn't tomorrow the first day of spring...ummmm time to forget about the snow and look forward to ploppin' it in the drink. I'm wound up tighter than an idiot with wrist watch. [ March 20, 2003, 11:02 AM: Message edited by: squidrig ] |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Hey John-
Congratulations! That's great news.....I bet you're glad that you didn't have to go down there and haul her home to Rhody. I think you should call her "PATIENCE" |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
John,
Congratulations! I guess having my fingers crossed for you the past few weeks helped . You made the right decision - smoking vs. SeaCraft. What's the deal with the California registration on the boat? Scott |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Hey John!!!!
Don't tell me, don't tell me!!!! That boat was bought from a place in Cape Coral wasn't it??? As soon as I saw it i remembered it was the boat I was looking at when I almost drove off of the roadway and into a tree. Sweet looking rig! Very Nice! That is the boat I saw isn't it????? -Hooper |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Hoop - that's the boat! Fedexed the check today - scheduled to be loaded on hauler Tuesday and in New England by late week ...
Scott - I give you the details later but the short version was that this boat was for sale in Cali back in June for 20K. A few weeks after seeing it for sale on BT, one of my weird web searches showed this boat for sale in Cali for 20K with the guy pleading for someone to buy it before he moved to FL. "Supposedly" this boat was used 90% on Lake Tahoe and "rarely" seen salt... Well, the guy didn't sell it for 20K, shipped it to FL, sold it to the guy I'm buying from who did not have it surveyed - it needed some structural work and went into a good local shop to get fixed (the work was done very well) but the other work needed was still more than the current owner wants to do. So that's how I got it. I was VERY interested in this boat the 1st time around and honestly, this is probably too early for me too but I don't want to miss it.... The asking price was 16800 and I got it for well less than that.. For a couple reasons I need to keep this off my other site for now due to some other stuff going on but I wanted to share this with the guys here at CS... Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Thanks!
All goes well - it gets put on the hauler tomorrow! |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Hello John,
Congrats on the purchase. I see you did not need me to take a look at it. Where the boat is in the pic is Cape Tool and Tackle and is about 10 minutes from my house. Have a great time. |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
TGN - the funny thing that happened was I had to accelerate the thought process as I had a chance to ship it quick & cheap so I went right to the survey instead... But other issues arose and the survey didn't get done for a week plus...
I do appreciate your offer and will make it up to you and take ya fishing if you head north! |
Re: Why have I been hiding lately?
Same offer if you ever head down south
