OK - doin' a little networking here - I need a jahb
 

Well, after 6 & 1/2 years at my "last" company, I was laid off the other day. I got R.I.F.'d . They didn't even kiss me first, just *$%# me so now I'm looking for new work... Less than 16 hours of doing my bit to help stimulate the American Economy (new truck [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] )

If any of you fine gentleman and gentleladies know of any IT work from Wareham, Mass to Westerly, RI - I'm lookin'. My last position was with a process/bio/pharma engineering company.

Basic History 2000-Last Thurs - IT Projects Manager
VPN/Intranet/Routers/Infrastructure/New Servers/Security
1997-2000 - MIS Manager
Just about everything /servers/infrasturcture/
96-97- Network Admin
Servers / Desktops

Solid on MS NT4.0/W2K/XP, Netware 3 thru 5, Cisco routers / PIX, Linux, some Web Developing, plus all of the typical stuff...

I will be tweaking my resume this week and I will also begin to study for some more certifications for work I've been doing for a while but now need a slip of paper to show I know it..

If you know of anything or are aware of anything, please let me know...

Sorry to hear that John. Wish I could help ya out but being down in South Florida won't help ya much. Don't know if you are aware but Microsoft has changed a few things in their certs. They have added a new one to the growing list so check into them a bit when you decide to go get them. If you are REALLY good, try taking one of those "Boot Camp" type courses to get the stuff done and over quick because the last cert I got from Microsoft took two months to get AFTER I completed everything and passed all the tests. They told me it was a little screwup on their part but hey, I worked hard to get those certs and it should not have taken that long to get them. Heck, my 14yo son got a response asking for inforomation for a school project he had faster than I got my cert from them, sheeesh......

SORRY ABOUT YOUR JOB IT SEEMS LIKE THE ONLY REAL JOB SECURITY NOW A DAY’S IS IF YOUR SELF EMPLOYED. I DON’T THINK ANY ONE EVER FIRED THEM SELVES YET. AS FOR FLORIDA THE STATE KEEPS ON GROWING AND GROWING BUT MOST INDUSTRIES PAY LESS THEN YOU GUYS UP NORTH. NO UNIONS DOWN HERE TO HELP BOOST UP WAGES BUT USUALLY LOTS OF OPPORTUNITY AND MIGHT COSTS LESS TO LIVE. THIS IS A GOOD STATE TO DO YOUR OWN THING IN. AS BRIGUY SAID WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES OTHER DOORS WILL OPEN MAYBE NOT JUST LIKE THE OTHER JOB BUT CAN BE BETTER THAN WHAT YOU HAVE NOW “YOU NEVER KNOW”. I’M 56 NOW AND ON MY THIRD CAREER CHANGE. TWO OF MY CHOICE AND ONE BECAUSE I HAD TO, THE ADJUSTMENT AND FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS OF THEM ALL. TAKE A WEEK OFF TO BLOW THE STINK OFF EITHER WORK ON THE BOAT OR GO FISHING THEN START THINKING OF WHAT’S NEXT GOD?

Thanks guys but too many Blueharied ladies (and some men too [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] ) in FL - also many white cars too. Stickin' to my NE guns. Besides I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world! OK - not right where I live but not far [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img]

Yeh, bluehairs suck!

I always see moving on from a job as an opportunity to do something different. Your skills and credentials are terrific and everything will be fine.

Come to think of it, I could use a 6 month paid vacation in the summer with a new truck and a SEACRAFT! How hard can that be?

Can you put one of those 2thirsty5's in the middle of the transom and go with that for now?

John, When one door closes another one always opens. Now would be a good time to sell that overpriced, overtaxed house in the northeast and haul everything to sunny Florida. You may chuckle at first [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] as did my friends when I told them of my plans to move to Sarasota from N Jersey 4 1/2 years ago. No kidding, I would do it 100 times over again. Ask anyone on the board from Fla. , they will tell you the same. As for being given the shaft, that too is a good thing. SeaCraft software... I wonder how they got around a trademark infringment.
We got in a hassle with a guy in India that registered a trademark name and never used it here or there.

John that sucks about the job, something better will come along don't worry. I know every company on the Cape has slashed lots of computer jobs lately, my neighbor lost her job after 12 years this week, she dodged that bullet every six months for the last two years until this week. They are laying off everybody. Stripers are on the way that should help soften the blow though. Hang in there, Jon

Sorry for the news.
I too work in IT field and I know it is a litle tough out there now.
Try you luck in one of those financial companies (Citibank, Bear @ Stern, etc,etc or in the communication field like Verizon).
I too moved from New England to beatiful Tampa after being let go by Wang Laboratories (Lowell, MA) in 1990. Will never go back.
Lets see NE= Cod, Pollock, flounder, Stripers, Haddock, bluefish, bluefin tuna
Florida= Sheephead, trout, redfish, grouper, tuna (back, yellow, blue), sailfish, cobia, snook, shark, tarpoon, amberjack, flounder, bluefish, pompano, permit, spanish macro, kingfish, snaper, ladyfish.......I think Florida have the edge...I will stay.

And don't forget many Freshwater Fish's,Including the hardest Hitting,Fighting PEACOCK Bass.

No sh*t it's hot down here. I'm in West Palm working today and visiting my sister in Jupiter (hey LTDAN) and it's freakin' hot AND humid. We won't see this heat in Western New York for another 2 months and it might last 10 days.

She's REALLY trying to get us down here, but why move when you can mooch? She always has cold Bud on arrival. Boy did it taste good tonight!
