Pics & Questions for a 20 CC I'm looking at

OK, here is a boat I'm looking at that I would need to travel about 1000 miles for but I think it's a good deal. Since talking to the owner last week (sort of - long story), there has been some theft & vandalism to it. Some hatches & panels were stolen. Is it tough to get the original panels or am I much better to make new ones out of Starboard or something....

Thanks,

John

John-

Good news on the hatches. I have all of them and have no use for them since I have totally re-engineered my 20. The boat looks pretty decent. Don't you have a Suzuki you want to throw on there?

That Yamaha, although rebuilt, is not worth much, particularly since it is pre 1994/ Pre 1994 had MAJOR corosion issues.

Since the Hatches were just stolen out of her I am sure that should lower the $ enough to make it well worth your while.

What does that guy know buying a 25 Contender over the 20 SeaCraft Jeepers!

Hi John

Not Bad!! doesnt look like it needs to much work either....You have not seen this in person??...

What Steve mentions above about that water line stain might be worth asking about...That does look low to the notch in the transom almost looks like the water is at the level of the swim ladder(Pic with KERR Drug in background)

I dont know do 20's sit that low??

Why would someone steal hatches and leave the anchor and looks like batteries under the console...even stuff screwed down is not safe anymore....

Thanks guys,

I'm going to negotiate with the fellow and if we hammer out a deal, I'll pick it up next week.

I am concerned about the waterline. Many 20CCs with big motors (200HP is too much for that boat IMO) squat a lot in the stern and that waterline is pretty defined. I'd like to see what can be done to balance that out a bit - probably not much. Anyone ever mount the dual batteries in the anchor locker ? But I certainly would put a well/collapsable divider in their somehow.

Scott - I haven't seen it yet, just the pics. And it's a little bit beyond Steve's bridge

Nice boat. I've had bildge pumps stolen, and even wire torn out, but hatch covers? Unless you have a boat pretty much like it, what could you do with hatch covers. I don't think that boat is suppose to sit that low in the water, but maybe it doesn't. My eyes aren't that great, but looking at the 3rd to last picture, where you can see the whole transom, it looks to me like it sat deeper in the water on the port side. If the boat was moored next to shore or a bank and at low tide, sits on the bottom, it could lean to the port and cause that line to be highter. There's a sailboat in my canal that does just that, but when it's floating, it's higher and level. Worth asking about before driving that distance. Good Luck.

CaptMin - good call, the grime line does not look that consistent around the hull...

thanks...

Hey John, that looks like just what you were looking for.I wouldn't worry too much about that slime line, it could be a result of anything.Even pulling it out on the trailer on a particularly slimy day, and then not washing it will leave a weird looking "water line".
You see plenty of them with 200's, a lot of power yes but not too much (is there such a thing).
The only fly in the ointment is the 1000 miles, that is a serious road trip - where the hell is this thing? I guess only you can decide if it's worth the trip, and the price could affect your decision. But you have the hatch problem solved, so what are the odds that a guy at this very site (all of 1 month old), has the hatches you need, and he just so happens to be redoing his boat, and NOT USING THE ORIGINAL HATCHES? Damn John, if that ain't some funky mojo, cosmic fate, turn of events then I don't know what is.Maybe the boat gods are answering your prayers - I don't think you have a choice, get a full tank of gas, half pack of cigarettes, put your shades on and get going!

I agree with Billy Bob, very well said as well Bill!! I just wish I could join on the trip. Nothing beats a road trip. Particularly when a SeaCraft is at the end. You better be on your way!!!.

Haaa, haaaa, haaaa....

OK - I'll be a little circumspect in case the current owner(s) or aquaintances have found this site (ClassicContender.com)...

Steve - you're way high on the price ;)For arguments sake, we'll say the asking price was in the mid 4K range before the thefts... The trip is a little under 1000 miles each way - a lot closer to FLA than the Ditch...Buckeys - is that just resident only on the run?

Billybob - I quit smoking too tough on the Roadtrip

Trayder - is that an offer to make a journey? I don't think I'll have a problem finding a victim - err, volunteer I mean, but I'm thinking of a one day Bronco dash then crash at the local Salt-Air Motel then hitch up the next am, grab a spare trailer wheel & tire and return...

Ya'll remember when Misters Bradshaw & Tillis loaded up for the Cannonball Run, right? 24 cases of beer and a bag of chips? Nahhh - just kiddin' I don't drink when I fish and I don't have more than three if I'm driving more than a mile ,

JOHN R:

Wondering when you were going to show us that boat.I have a hard time getting over the bridge. I would make those parts myself. Once you
get into working with glass it's not that hard.
but you do need all the tool's to do so. And that could run into some $. Like I keep telling my wife
just because I have bought something it doesn't mean
I can't turn around and sell it and get my & back.
My only concern is how low in the water does that boat sit.[in the stren] I see by the pic. the water line is quite high . What hp is that yam. 150-175. Lot's of weight. I'm not a go
fast kind of guy. GO for it; if it doesn't work out for you put it back on the market .

Best of luck-steve

Nice find! Good luck!

Where did you find it listed? Some South Carolina newspaper classifieds?

How much gas will the Bronco burn down and back?

I had posted a WTB at theHullTruth and someone in SC saw the add & relayed it to me. This works out, I'm gonna need to send him a good bottle...
