Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Here is a link to my recently overhauled 20 cc. I would like to know what it is worth as I am considering doing a winter project (23 footer cc)
Here is a link the gallery: web page I have no idea what it's worth now. I have 6k into the new transom and deck, wiring and all the other fixin's and my mechanic says the boat's engine is worth about 6 grand. It's a 135 optimax. Any input would be appreciated. |

Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
The value is always in the eye of the beholder but for me I am beholding 20 something grand of one beautiful boat.

Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Fellow-Ship. I agree. Looking at what 20 grand can buy you now, these tuned up boats should be worth a good amount.
In all reality, what would someone pay for a rig that was updated with a raised transom, deck, and all the fixin's? |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
did the actual height of the stringers/floor get raised or did the aft compartments merely get cut out? That would make a big difference to me. I've had two of them now and if the floor was still at the original height, I'd pass on it. Once they are made self-bailing by raising the floor it would be something to think about.

Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Mark makes a good point. I'm thinking 18 plus...
|
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Those numbers sound really nice, but I am having a hard time believing somone would pay 18 for this. Nobody would love it more than me, but last time I saw an early 70's 20cc seacraft (totally redone) for more than 15k. The seller got trashed with negative feedback.
ie: check out the poor fellah that posted his 20 footer on thehulltruth.com. Am I asking too little when I expect 15 grand for this boat. Are buyers out there for this boat at this figure? |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
so did you raise the floor or not??

Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
I really hate to be a party pooper but.. Let come down to earth for a few mintues. Sea Crafts are great boat and the older ones are better then the new ones. But most of the value is really in the eyes of the owner and other Sea Craft lovers. 15g's is alot for the boat(sorry). The used boat market is soft right now because everyone is buying new (low rates) so the used boat market is flooded with 5 to 10 year old boats, for the same price. To sell that boat for that kind of money you got to find a Sea Craft nut to buy it, well most Sea Craft nuts are looking for the project boat to make there own, not one that is already done for 15g's. But the hardest fact is that no bank is gonna finace a 30 year old boat. So you need a cash in hand buyer to walk though your door. The guy with 7 to 10g's is more likely to be out there then the 15 to 20g guy. I'd start at 12 g and hope for the best but if a guy walks though the door and has 10g's I'd send it down the river.
Sorry, I hope I didn't step on any ones toes |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
PipeDreamsMarine,
That is what I was looking for, a very realistic approach to value the boat. About the cash though, there are other options for someone, like a home eq. loan where you can write off the interest. Mark, the new floor is higher than the original, I put the ping-pong scuppers in, but the self bailing system is still only a 4 out of 10. I'm not totally psyched about that. I run this little thing far far far and I really should carry a rescue pod on board. I just want a bigger boat and don't want to take too much of a bath on the transaction. |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Why is it that with many other items we (as humans) are willing to pay much more money than what that item is really worth, but with a “Classic” SeaCraft Boat were not willing to pay the extra $.
Examples 1. paintings, 2. antiques, 3. coins collections, 4. old baseball cards, 5 old comic books 6. old cars, and on and on and on. I think in all these fields “experts say” the reason why this old painting is worth $1,000,000 is because it’s a Rembrandt or something like that. Personally I think we need to start thinking not as a used car sales man and start thinking more like a art dealer expert looking as something Special which in fact is how the knowledgeable public really thinks about Classic Seacraft in the first place. I think its time (in my humble opinion) to stick out chest out in Pride and say “THIS IS NOT JUST ANOTHER BOAT THIS IS A CLASSIC SEACRAFT” and in 10 years from now this boat will we worth more than what you are going to pay for her today and that other boat you are looking at in 10 years from now will be ground down to powder and in some land fill around here. “We are the experts” and we got the best classic boats that ever has been made and our boats will still be on the water after we are all dead and our ashes sprinkled out at sea. Someone pass me a Budweiser. Ha pipedreams I’m not picking on you but for me my boat has nothing to do “with the real world” it’s my dream boat and that’s the key with selling anything that is a Classic for more that the some total of the value of the materials in it. Ferrari sports cars learned this a long time ago and that’s why they get $150,000 to 250,000 per unit. Has anyone priced a Rolex watch lately? FellowShip |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
FellowShip,
If you were a boat broker, I'd give you my 20 in a heartbeat. I wept when I read your last post. Beautiful man...beautiful. (sob sob) |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Fellow-ship.. I no harm my friend. I believe the same thing. My Sea Craft is the best boat around and I plan on keeping it, cause it ain't worth much in the world of todays thin skined boats. But to me it's priceless. I just know what the real world thinks of 30 year old boats thats all. That's the main reason I fought tooth and nail to get my boat insured for what it would cost to replace it. I got too much time and blood in my boat to get a check for $500.00 from some insurance company because of some nonboating smuck in his Bayliner...where am I going with this...???? Ha Pipedream
My wife even thinks I am crazy in how I think about “THAT BOAT” she keeps on telling me when I die she is going to put me in the boat point it out to Sea and through a torch into the boat as I drift off to Valhalla. At first I objected to the loss of my boat, but now I am changing my mind. I now thinking that it is kind of a beautiful sendoff what do the think. FellowShip |

Fellowship
You are in Cooper City, Perhaps you can come to Miramar so I can show you my 73" 20ft c.c. I'm here at Mercury Marine Latin America & Caribbean down the road from you. It is the sweetest Sea Craft you will ever see garonteeed.I need to post a picture of her for all you SC aficionados. |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
I agree with PipeDreams on this one, but I also agree with FellowShip. Yes, the boats are considered priceless by us owners and borderline nut cases, but they are worth much less to the guy looking for just "any" used 20 CC. To get $15K for this boat, you'll have to find an SC lover. Anyone else is going to look to spend $7-10K. I'm willing to bet the Bertram 31 guys only get what they get for those boats because another Bertram nut knows what he's buying. You have to know what you're buying to know it's true worth/value, and therefore be ready to shell out the Benjamins.

HA NAHIM
Sounds good to me maybe one Sat, or Sunday we can hook up together. FellowShip |
Re: Please help me guess how much my boat is worth
Fellow-ship's post was great (or should I say "classic") but the part he forgot to mention was depreciation and wear. Someone who buys a million dollar painting, collectable baseball card, antique car, etc. isn't gonna take those things 20 miles off the coast. When you buy "classic" anything and pay top-dollar for it, you don't usually continue using it.
