This engine will be in the 2005 line up. It may but I dont see it be a late 2004 engine. The boat builders will have first crack at these engines. The only thing that I do not like on this engine is the fuel rails having 1000psi in them.

I know merc. has been testing a couple 300's in the va beach area and are about to take them back to the factory to break them down and see how they are holding up.from what i have heard they are lighter than expected and awesome.

Mercury has a 300 hp out there. THe down fall is it is not carb rated. And it needs high test to run. THe Yam. is carb rated and burns reg. gas.

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Joe, what does carb rated mean?

ScottM 08-12-2003 08:56 AM

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

SECF,
He may mean CARB, as in California Air Resources Board, the regulating agency that makes sure emissions are tightly controlled in that state.

300hp Yammie, huh??? My boat would honk with that thing bolted on the transom.

What is the ramifications of exceeding the recommended Coast Guard hp for your boat? I assume I would be paying higher insurance premiums...anything else?

Geeez....my Mako would probably do 55 with 300 ponies behind here. Anyone want to buy a Suzuki 225 in great shape??? Just kidding....no new motor for me.

Ed,

You need to put two of those on your boat and then take it down and drag race with The Other Tom on the ICW. I'll volunteer to fire the starting gun

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Now Ed, why would you want to ruin a perfectly good trolling setup? Can you imagine tooling along in your boat at 55 mph with that dodger up and those Lencos kicking up a monster rooster tail?! Plus you'd be taking on water like nobody's business with that added weight, you'd have to carry around at least 10 rolls of shop towels!

BTW, your insurance company probably wouldn't cover you in an accident if you went over mfg. hp ratings.

I'll buy the Suzi.

23 footer wouldn't be over rated if it was a SeaCraft

I won't need shop towels anymore to plug up the Mako's scuppers, I chopped up SCOTT's rain gear that he left on board and I will be using that instead. (He-he)

Ed,
300 HP Yammie on the Mako? Be carefull you might blow out both flip flops if you bury the dodger
into a wave! Do you think you'd beat Trayder in a
sprint to the Newport bridge? You can sell the 225
Minkota to John to troll bass!

Blow out his flops......Not again Doah!!!!

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Bad things happen only in three's right???

1) Why is that bilge pump on? Hmmmm..do you think is it because I forgot to caulk the bilge access hatch?
2) Blew out my Reef flipflop and as a result almost blew out my knee.
3) Burnt out the starter in my truck. Good thing there is truth to the old saying about whacking it with a hammer until she starts again.

"Blew out my flip flop, stepped on a pop top, had to cruise on back home..." - Ed, just make sure you have a batch of Margaritas and you'll be all set .

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Hehehe-

too funny, poor Ed leaking boat, blown flip flop, wacking his truck with a hammer!!!!

I have an idea just buy Trayder and be done with it, I will even throgh in a pair of flops.

If anyone knows someone interested in a 25-27 ft Center console Trayder is for sale again, I am showing her to someone next week but would very much like to sell, that Jazz fest trip was the first time she left the slip in 3 weeks and she only left said slip 6 times this season. Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Bring trayder over to nantucket for a couple of days with a few for sale signs on her. She'll sell in a minute and you'll have to fly home.

The 20 inch shaft would work well on the '18 or '20 foot SeaCrafts.

Gentlemen the 300 VMax is in their 2004 line-up

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products...ries&scat=HPDI

not sure a 20 inch shaft length is right for SeaCraft 23, any comments?

gss036 09-27-2003 08:38 PM

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Craig, you would need a 30" shaft for a 23 ft Seacraft or 25" for twins.

John R 09-28-2003 11:24 AM

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Craig - depends on your Seacraft. If it's stock and has not been raised, you'd likely have a 25" for a single or 20" if twins ...

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Ed, I'll accept the challenge, but by the looks of it, I will be on the losing end of that race!!! I need a pair for myself. Of course, I could designate the course, and choose an ocean route in December during a Nor'Easter - I'll just use the Bertram....upwind.

Ed 10-01-2003 04:18 PM

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Yeah.....I think 600 ponies behind a 23 Mako might just outrun your 25 Whitewater with 400 ponies. However, I think it would be very frightening....especially during a Nor'easter.

Speaking of Whitewater's....when I was in Nantucket in August...I saw an original looking 25 Whitewater CC with a bracket. The gelcoat was a dark chalky blue but a nice looking boat. It also gave me an idea as to HOW MUCH WORK YOU DID ON YOUR BOAT!...

Did you buy that 35' or so Bertie that you showed us on that canal in Ft Lauderdale??

other tom 10-06-2003 12:07 PM

Re: Yamaha's VZ300 VMAX HPDI

Pics to follow, didn't buy the one I showed you, my friend picked that one up. I found another (46' Bertram) with a tower, recently majored,2 new gensets, new A/c, watermaker, and a pile of other goodies - problem is the cosmetics, but I happen to know someone who can deal with that......takes a bit of assimilation to keep chanting 20 knots, 20 knots, 20 knots 20 knots.. I got it up to 26 on the gps, but that was downwind, downsea in the Gulfstream coming back from Bimini (3 knots of current up the butt).

the whitewater is not going anywhere though. (and thats 450 ponnies, not 400)
