Re: starboard

Hooper, While Your checking, I Have found that there are "2" diff. types ? Starboard which NOTHING will stick to (eXcept Their Glue ?) & a PVC type. PVC glue will glue it. I don't know the diff, in look, feel , quality , $$$, etc ? If Your going to have to seal it check them both out !! I was told glue some together , clamp & if it sticks its PVC ?
Got Glue?

Re: starboard

I'm 93.7% sure Starboard is HDPE with extra UV protection. Seaboard is the same (I think)

Re: starboard

Wow, thanks for the replies!

I am looking to redo my transom door and transom covering boards from the teak that is there now in in need of attention to something a little more durable.

Have any of you replaced your transom door, those of you with notched transoms that is?

I'd be interested to hear what you think of starboard or something similar as a suitable product for this task....

Thanks as always, Hooper

Re: starboard

Hey Hooper

If you go with Starboard, Make sure you use a least 3/4" because a piece the size of a transom splash will tend to warp or bow.

Re: starboard

Hooper,
We've got Starboard as a transom gate on the Sceptre. The previous owner made a bi-fold gate out of varnished plywood, which looked like crap after a couple seasons. My father replaced with Starboard 3 seasons ago and it looks great. He went with 3/4" because it is now one-piece, so when folded down you step on it and it's not flat on the deck. I don't have any good pics of it to post, but if you're ever in the Hanover area let me know and I'd be happy to show you.

Re: starboard

If you have an application that requires an adhesive that will adhere to King Starboard, 3M has a product called "Scotch-Weld DP8005" that is supposed to work. I recently purchased some, but I have not used it yet. It was 1 of only 2 products I located that claimed to be capable adhering to this type of plastic. I am not sure how soon I'll use it, but I will try to remember to post comments on how it performs.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I filled opening in the front of my transom with 3/4 inch Seaboard (same stuff as Starboard, different brand, less advertising $$). This created a motor splash well. I used rubber like door insulaltion around the edge as a gasket. My season ended before i could use it on the water, but I tested it by quickly pouring 5 gallons of water in the well. The plastic didn't bow at all and only a little water dribbled by the gasket.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I guess I should have been a bit more clear. I have a bifold door made of teak and figure i'll redo it but using something like the starboard. Thanks for the input, maybe I'll look to using 3/4".

Many thanks!

Re: starboard

Hooper,
I had the same bi Fold panel and replaced it with white starboard.I ran it over the table saw and put a couple of 1/8 in grooves in it for a pattern. I didn't use hinges because my livewell was in front of it but instead used slide bolt latches so I could remove it easily when I needed to. Heres a link to the pic.

Dave.
It was 3/4 inch board. Starboard also is made in XL or extra Light. About half the density of the regular starboard so less weight. But the edges don't show as clean due to the micro air pockets along the cut edge. The XL is good to use in 1/4 and 3/8 where you don't really see the edges.

Re: starboard

70's-

Wow, what a great job you did with the starboard on the transom doors! It looks neat and clean, I am very impressed... I hope to get my father in law involved in a few projects this winter. He has more skills than I, but he can't catch a fish if his life depended on it!

BTW, we'll be in Cape Coral after Christmas, the 26th - 2nd for some sun and sights. Can you put in a word with the weather man, say sunny and 75???

Thanks! Hoop
