pop up cleats
I have a question for those who went the pop route with their cleats and bow light. Do you just substitute 2 new pop up cleats where the old ones we're along side the bow light,or fill the old holes and add 1 new cleat directly behind the light? It appears on the new 20' there are 2 stainless trim pieces along side the bow light and 1 cleat between them. Which way would you do it? Thanks

I don't know about the 20' I think you'll find it both ways but installation on my 23' I had to go the one pop-up in the center and the two trim pieces because the depth of the pop-ups would not allow placement to the outter edge without hitting the bow curve inside and then I couldn't attach the drain tubes http://www.theboatzone.com/gallery/CSteele/res8259 |
Re: pop up cleats
I had the two cleat version at one point on my 18' and replaced them with a single 6" pull-up in the middle: vast improvement.
Like Capt Chuck suggested, the flare would likely prevent using two pop-up or pull-up cleats that close to the edge. In addition, it is far less cluttered with just one centrally located. On my 20' I will be going with the same layout as the new 20's, which means launching that original 3" high bow railing into the nearest recepticle. |

Fly ....Not a 20 but .. Bow cleats on Seafari's 23'
Capt Chuck...The hatch on the casting platform ... Did you use a piano hinge?? how's it working out for you ?? and is that paint on the topside?? ....LOOKS GREAT !!! http://www.classicseacraft.com/23intbow.JPG [ January 03, 2004, 12:47 AM: Message edited by: Scott ] |
Re: pop up cleats
Thanks Scott
That indeed is a piano hinge on the casting deck as well as the forward deck hold. (Factory installed) The decks and inner liner are all original gelcoat. It will be painted someday. Lot of battlescars The topside has been painted with Signature Finish & nonskid added. Hard to see in the pics. Works great, easy to apply & repair |

What’s the dimensions of the hawse pipe (inside and outside ) Looks like its just the right size .... I took a quick look but didn’t see them on the webiste thanks |
Re: pop up cleats
ID hole size is 4.5" x 1.5"
You will have to make a oval cut out 4 7/8" x 1 7/8" this is the OD of the hole. Looking from the top down on the part it is 7" long by 4" wide and it is 1/4 inch thick. It is much bigger then the original aluminum one that came with the boat but it will fit on the gunnel of the 23SC. I'm going to recess it 1/4" so it sits flush. Accon does not make a smaller version. Strick |
