Console Size
 

I need opinions on console sizes. I've found one 60d 42w 52h. I'm wondering if thats going to be too big for my 23? Keeping in mind the boat has a closed transom,that will give me more room.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

Chris,.. Seems a bit big to me. The 42 width is wide, add 2 inches both side for spacing, then add another 4"(1 1/2" T-Top legs- 2"od) your up to 50" of used space- what's the inside measurements of the boat, you may only have 18" either side to walk by. 60" deep that's 5 foot of console, you'll be looking at a top that's close to 6'x 8'.. big T-top on a 23. What do the new 23's have on them size wise for the console?

I think that would kick a$$. But it would also protrude over one of your front centerline hatches.

Any pics of the console?

Don, the console is designed to have the top mounted on the sides. Hard to explain, I sent pic's to JohnR maybe if he has time he can post one. I need to measure for the front hatch thing.

Its big! Dunno what to say. get the dimensions, cut it out of cardboard, and throw it down on the floor - see if it's going to work or not...

Finster, it does not appear to be much bigger than the one presently in my 23. Width and height are about the same, depth isnt that far off either except that the front seat on mine angles back so it doesnt obstruct the hatch. I am at work now but I will measure mine when I get home this evening-looks nice for sure,craig

Hey finster.

IN the boat zone, I have pics of my 23SC which I believe was marketed as a Master Angler in 1983 with a larger console. I like it, in fact, I wish it was a bit larger as there always seems to be plenty to stow away!

Hooper - I have a couple questions for you on your console:

Is your console moved forward of typical consoles? The pics look like you have the console moved forward with little room between the console and front casting deck. Does the door swing open OK?

Scrap the forward casting deck and forward hatch and modify your boat to suit that console. It is the same console "Other Tom" has on his Whitewater, which has the same beam as a 23, and it is the most functional console I have ever seen or used.

What have you guys been smoking, scrap the casting deck? No way. If the boat didn't have one I'd put one in.

Different strokes for different folks. I agree it would be dumb to design the boat around the console but damn that is a sweet console!!

I dig that console too, if I could make it work I would, I just can't see how I can. I have someone drawing up a smaller version of it and it sounds like the price might be doable....we'll see.

thanks for the comments. seacraft, whitewater, I am not tied to any one religion - after all, if it wasn't for the Formula 23/ SC 23, then I wouldn't have found that hull anyways...

That used console is in fact a SeaVee console. Don't know how it got where it is, but SeaVee uses them on everything up to the 34 (and it is an option to have one that size (narrow) on the 34).

You may want to consider "Butting" the front of the console up against the casting deck and trying to engineer some way of cutting the door so it only swings down to the casting deck level. Basically you would cut away the bottom /front 4" of the console and glass it into the aft side of the casting deck. Then, you'd have it far enough forward to make sense, and still be able to get the centerline floor hatch open... its hard to tell, but the front are of my floor in the whitewater is raised about 1.5"...the console is mounted in the fashion I described. If you ever have an issue with green water, the lower floor area will have 3" of water, while the ONLY way into the console will be way above that level...

Other bonus features on that console...1) cored with wood all over in order to facilitate flush mounting guages/electronics and inside, allows self-tappers to mount up wire ties, panels, switches, breakers etc. 2) switch panel is perfectly positioned, and with clear plexi you can see all labels and on/off lights. 3) It is designed with the strenght to mount the t-top legs directly on the flat side portion with no other support. I have tested this feature for two years now doing things that no one should do in a boat (they usually run better when water is closer to the hull) Not a single strain or movement of the t-top, and mine is substantial with full rods and 15' taco riggers. ask Jason and Mark and Ed - if can handle the abuse I give it, should be good to go for a 23' 4) the inside storage is HUGE. I have 2 batts, 2 batt switches, 2 large oil tanks, hydraulic steering, 3 water/baitwell pumps 2 filters, stereo power amp, and a whole pile of wiring, and there's tons of room left to mount up gear. The top new, stripped without electronics hatch or switch panel is $1800, IF they will sell it to you. There are few riggers in South Florida that have a "relationship" with Ariel from SeaVee. Whitewater's console is very similar, but the corners are not as rounded, and the gutters in the front seat drain not as deep. otherwise they are identical.

Well, I think I've found it. It's identical to the Contenders, and the size and price is right. Unfortunatly it doesn't have the lift up front, but I can live without it.
