Too good to be true?
Gentlemen,
Brian Miller was kind enough to post 2 ads he saw in Baltimore. One was listed a 71 19' cuddy I/O, trailer. I saw the post Thursday morning and was in Baltimore by Midnight after a 5 hr. drive. By 7:30 AM Friday, money changed hands and we were hooking up a 1971 20' SeaFari, 4 cyl. Merc I/O with "reconditioned" outdrive sitting in the cockpit. Almost unbelievably, this boat is an almost all original 71 with 153 hours! I mean, can that be right? The floor and deck feel solid, but the transome will need a complete replacement. It's a perfect project boat that might have a season or 2 left in her. http://www.foodmachinery.com/SeaCraf...s/DSC04196.JPG http://www.foodmachinery.com/SeaCraf...s/DSC04198.JPG http://www.foodmachinery.com/SeaCraf...s/DSC04199.JPG http://www.foodmachinery.com/SeaCraf...s/DSC04202.JPG http://www.foodmachinery.com/SeaCraf...s/DSC04202.JPG http://www.foodmachinery.com/SeaCraf...s/DSC04204.JPG The trailer is the original 1971 dual axle trailer with very questionable rubber. But it actually rode very well for the 350 mile ride home. [ July 01, 2003, 11:01 AM: Message edited by: Otto Cuyler ] |
Re: Too good to be true?
I think we may have created a monster!
CSCA, Classis SeaCraft Anonomous will be meeting ever other Wednesday at 8pm. I think you may want to consider stopping by for a meeting or two. The boat looks very nice and quite original and classy. Congrats. Which one are you going to bring down to RI in Aug or can you tow them in tandem? |
Re: Too good to be true?
Looks like someone had a hard time deciding on a water line. Did the pup christen the tire?
|
Re: Too good to be true?
Otto-
You're a riot! By years end you'll probably have 5 Seacrafts. Good luck with the new project. -Ed- PS - How did the paint job come out on the 23??? |
Re: Too good to be true?
Good job Otto! Your the only one thats bought into my four boat theroy.
Pooch definatly looks guilty. |
Re: Too good to be true?
Otto good score. Theres nothing like a boat that hasn't been messed with by five differant owners. Nice find, good luck.

Re: Too good to be true?
MUST HAVE MORE SEACRAFTS! After selling my beloved Searay 21 Laguna CC, there was a big hole in the warehouse. So, despite Finster's 4 boat theory, I'm back to 6 boats, if you include the 19' Lightning blowbote and 10 inflatable.
If I'm not back to 4 boats by the end of summer, send in the guys with the white coats. Does Zoloft help this kind of "problem"? Otto |
Re: Too good to be true?
Otto,
Zoloft only numbs everything, it won't cure your ailment. I think the only cure is a frontal lobotomy, or would that be a bottle in front of me? I'll take the drinking route...but then again, by the looks of things on this site, drinking can cause S.C.A.S. (SeaCraft Acquisition Syndrome) as well . I retract my original statement, the frontal lobotomy is the only cure. |
Re: Too good to be true?
That is a classic! Potter should be coming by tomorrow and I will steer him towards the pics.

Re: Too good to be true?
Otto- You are well on your way with your Seacraft collection. HermCo- Any celebrity appearance by Mr. Potter is welcome. Ya know, since the legend is only getting greater and everyone else is knocking off our hulls.... maybe M.r. Potter is ready to slightly modify his original Seacraft hull and name it a Potter Craft! Re: Too good to be true?
Looks good Otto!! Good luck w/ her.
You have six boats?!?!?! I had enough trouble getting my wife to let me have one.... Brian |
Re: Too good to be true?
As many of you know, we are considering a move to South Florida within 1 year. As a result, this 20 Seafari project boat I acquired recently is out of reach scheduale wise, as I had to bench the 23 CC restoration due to good weather.
Anyway, I reluctantly need to sell her and will offer it in it's as-is condition for exactly what I paid for her: $2,500. I want to make it clear that this is a project boat and will require a transom re-do and the usual motor/outdrive reconditioning one should expect with a boat of this vintage. I must also insist that the buyer inspect the boat prior to acquisition. The vison I had for her is shown below: http://www.hermco.net/images/pottercraft.jpg Please feel free to contact me for additional images or details. |
Re: Too good to be true?
It would be ironic if it ends up back in the bay!
|
Re: Too good to be true?
Sorry to hear that you can't keep her Otto. If I had the $$$, I'd bring her back to her home in MD for stripers on the Chesapeake.
Good luck selling and w/ the move to FL. Brian Wait, my wife may be getting a new car. That means that I would get her (used to be mine anyway) '00 Jeep Cherokee, which means I could sell my '88 Cherokee and whadya know. $$$ in my pocket..... Old boats are better than old Jeeps, right?!?!? Let me see what I can work out. She probably won't go for it though, but I'll give it a shot. Re: Too good to be true?
Thanks Brian,
It's a great project for someone and perfect for the bay. If nobody want's her, maybe Finster will do the transom in his "spare time". |
Re: Too good to be true?
Otto, see my edited reply.
Now that I think about it, she might give me the OK. Our two little ones would really benefit from the shade offered by the cabin. Would be nice for her and I as well. Intimacy is not easily accomplished in a center console. Brian [ July 07, 2003, 12:47 PM: Message edited by: Brian Miller ] |
Re: Too good to be true?
Hey Brian - would be a good boat for down there.
I used to live in Rivera Beach and over on the Bodkin Creek - where are you roughly (kinda miss that area but really like NE better ) |
Re: Too good to be true?
Well, I was wrong. She didn't go for it. Not enough bathroom in there. Oh well, what can you do? I tried....
John, I live in Pasadena near the intersection of Solley and Mountain Rds. This area was OK but now that I've been bitten by the offshore bug, it kinda sucks. Spring and fall are alright when we get the big striper runs but the summer just plain bites. I know there are a lot of small fish around but I'd rather catch one big one, than a 100 small ones. Problem is, I want to go where this belongs: http://userpages.umbc.edu/~bmille4/r...e_in_water.jpg My Dad's 1995 Luhrs 320 Convertible But only have the budget for this: http://userpages.umbc.edu/~bmille4/s...ts/atdock1.jpg My 1985 Grady White 204 center console (I know it's not a SeaCraft....I was yound and ignorant! I hope she didn't hear me!! It's been repowered w/ a 2002 Merc. 150 since the picture and I'm in the process of building a T-Top. You guys have given me a lot of inspiration! Keep up the good work. Brian http://userpages.umbc.edu/~bmille4/sirreel/index.html [ July 10, 2003, 03:43 PM: Message edited by: Brian Miller ] |
