Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I am very interested in a 23 cuddy, actually looked at several in the Keys last week. Have you seen this boat, and is it in good shape or great shape? Do u know how old the power is, or approx engine hours?

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
Thanks for the info JT, I spoke to John this morning and he is sending me some more pics. I am seriously interested in his boat. Not looking for another project boat as I have spent the last three years totally restoring a 42 Ricky Scarbourogh, and I mean totally! Want something I can splash, turn key and fish on with little up keep! Thanks again, I will keep u posted. Question, R U anywhere near this boat?

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
Buyers BEWARE!!! Thanks for nothing JT, I bought your buddy Johns boat. Even after paying a Surveyor to totalty go over it, and work up a report, Wow big dissapointment when it got here!!! If this boat is as you put it, "MINT,.. I would hate to see what you call good condition. The trailer is the best thing about the whole package. I will never make this mistake again. It is well worth the price of a plane ticket to come to my own opion on the next purchase. Even the pictures made it look 1/2 way decent, but again, BIG DISSAPOINTMENT!!! Not yet a proud Seacraft owner! He must have paidoff the surveyor!!!

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
Sorry there lou, wasn't trying to sell the boat, just providing a lead to a classic seacraft that in my opinion was "mint", guess my 73 that i restored should have been classified trash, but yes I agree I wouldn't purchase a boat unseen either And for anyone interested out there, a 1960something 19'6 centerconsole in boattrader down here in so fla boyton bch i believe and i don't have an opinion or care who owns it but its only 3500 SEEEEEE YAAAAAAAAAA

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I would say not buyer beware, but more like buyer - take your lumps. I cannot imagine spending 10 to 11000 dollars on something without inspecting it. What would a JetBlue ticket have run you, $200? Not buyer beware, more like shame on buyer.

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I guess I am from the old school where my word is my bond. Funny , that used to mean something instead of "just the money" Just take note, If I ever post anything for sale, you can purchase with confidence.

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
No way I would make a major purchase without looking at it with my own eyes. Oh well.

" Jeez Barnaby, I don' think that is the issue. The issue is perception. Everyone's definition of mint is different, and if I was going to spend $11,000 (a low number for a Seacraft) I would damn sure want to see what I was buying, |
Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I somewhat agree with you as far as looking before buying. HOWEVER, The seller says "Mint"..O.K. we know he is selling, Then JT says "Mint", Now are they related? But a survey that was paid? Is it not his "job" to accurately describe all flaws?. You are right. If its my $11K spent, I'm looking. However with a Paid Surveyer involved, I expect an accurate report...Tight Lines Capt.

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
When describing a 25 year old boat, does mint possibly mean a slightly different thing than describing a two year old boat?
I once had a 1977 SeaCraft that most on this site would consider to be in great condition. However, someone only accustomed to viewing boats that had just come out of the mold might see small cosmetic things that bothered them on it. Should we first establish what the term "mint" means when used in conjunction with Potter era boats, which are by definition at least 23 years old?? Did the surveyor knowingly take into account the age of this boat and say that it was in great condition compared to other 25 year old boats or was the survey saying that this boat was comparable to a new boat? Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
LOU SORRY TO HERE THAT,THAT REALLY SUCKS.Nowadays you cant trust anyone even a surveyer.

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I Say SUE the Surveyer!!! Seriously, What is done is done. Lessons to be learned

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'd be scared of doing the mail-order bride or boat thing lest the "surveryor" had a different definition of what mint meant
-she might be UGLY |
Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I bought mine sight unseen but after a crap load of pics. Somethings were nicer than what I expected somethings were a little worse - I'm not unhappy about my decision. I DID have a solid survey done and it was pretty accurate. I did this and waffled back & fro but I DID want the boat and couldn't go to FL to check it out without getting a divorce. Would I buy again sightr unseen? Probably not but I shluldn't be in the same circumstances either...

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
notwithstanding the forgoing..since when does a "mint" Seacraft trade for $11,000?

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
Lou Jr,
This stuff happens and it's a major bummer. But as much as I hate to repeat it, you have to take some of heat here. I would have a conversation with the surveyor. And I would kick myself for not looking at it myself. But like John R said, sometimes you just can't go. I've done this several times on the used Food Machinery we buy and sell and just rack it up to experience and try not to let it happen again. One of the things you'll find on this site is directness of opinion, which is one of the things that make it so great. But the thoughts of these guys are only opinions and should be taken with a grain of salt. Hence the IMO (in my opinion) comments. I know you're mad about it, but put up some images and let see what you have to work with. It might be fine and you just had higher expectations. We will be happy to help you evaluate what you've got and help where we can. Keep the Faith. |
Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
Damn with all my tYpOs in my posts lately, you'd think I'd be drinking heavily like Finster
|
Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
I'll let that one slide.

Re: 23 cuddy mint FL 11,000
Finny - just haven't talked to you in a while - you've been busy with the new child Betcha haven't touched the boat yet...
