Thinking of moving
I'm (we're) giving serious thought to moving from Western New York State to warmer climes and a better business climate. It's been a very long winter and a longer spring. Opening the pool today, I realized I had closed it 9 MONTHS AGO! And I'll close it again in less than 3 months. We won't even get into trying to support the 4 boat (none of which have gotten wet this year) theory with a 3 month season.
Anyway, I have 2 sisters and a brother living in Palm Beach/ Martin County, which I love for it's golf as much as it's boating. Jupiter makes sense for us all things considered; schools, social/economic, boating, family, etc. I realize it's a big move with 2 girls, a business, industrial and residential properties, not to mention the 4 boats. But it just a matter of time. It's either next year or 8 years to get both girls out of high school. Just a matter of time. I would be pleased to hear from any of you with experience with this subject or comments positive or negative. |

Re: Thinking of moving
All I can say to you is this. No snow, no cold, great fishing all year (well, pretty much all year), nice tans (your girls will love that), fantastic beaches, hot women (shhhh, don't tell the wife I said that), etc, etc, etc....I could go on but I better stop before I get into trouble...

Re: Thinking of moving
HA OTTO
That particular area of North Palm Beach & Martin County / Jupiter Inlet area is probably the most desirable area to go to in the entire state. We moved here from N.Y. 46 years ago and the emerging growth area has continued to move north. I started in Miami now live in Broward and would love to move to the area you are talking about. The price of land is going up monthly and now is the time to buy I know of people making $100,000 on property in just one year investments in that area. I guess your business is going to be your economical central point, What exactly are you doing in machinery appraiser, are you planning on doing that type of work down here, or are you going to do something else. I sell business insurances and have a general understanding on what our economy is about perhaps I could give you some general into. As for the weather it is the best in the United States other than Hawaii as for the fishing that is a great area for several types of species, I personally have had as many as 21 sail fish hits in one day there. It would be very easy for you to travel the Bahamas from that location about 60 miles the to west end. As for school they are continually building new schools to handle the emerging growth of this area and if you move take that issue into consideration of where you buy. If you have specific questions I will keep my eye on this thread for a while. Fellow-Ship |
Re: Thinking of moving
Hello,
It was -17 chill factor, snowing, and I loaded a truck alone with a trailer behind it. Though I moved to Riverview Florida, I have no regrets. One thing when you get here, you will find yourself saving your down jacket, boots etc "just in case" DON'T DO IT..Donate them somewhere because mine stayed in the closet since I moved. I finally sold them on E-bay. I turned the heat on twice year before last. Last year Temps plummeted to 45 for a little while..Brrrrrrr. It will be the best move you ever made. Your family will love you for it! |
Re: Thinking of moving
Ted,
Thanks for the positive comments. I think you're right on all points. I have 2 girls that complain no matter what, but if they can't have fun in South Florida, well that's another story... I'm working on it. Anyone want to buy a snow plow? |
Re: Thinking of moving
Otto-Jupiter is a boater's paradise. My old stomping grounds. My folks have lived there since the 60's. They own a house on the Loxahatchee River. Excellent fishing. Fellow-ship is right about the Bahamas connection (2 hr trip from Jupiter). I know a Realtor to discuss the area- my mom(all of Northern Palm Beach/Martin Cty.). Let me know if you need any help.941-713-3372 -Danny Wood. There is a great sand bar hang-out in the Lox. River where you can calculate the number of beers your next Seacraft project will require . Prices are cheaper on the West Coast of FL. and less crowded, but you have to get offshore a bit farther for those sailfish. Bradenton is like Jupiter 10 years ago.

Re: Thinking of moving
I was born in Miami in 1957 I lived in South and South West Fla. for 30 years. I moved to Bucks county Pa. to finish my residency and of course ended up here with a job.....
I think of Fla. everyday wishing I could go back. I envy all you who still live there and those who are moving to that beautiful state. The east coast has everything..,the west coast will have it all next week. The cost of living is going up there but still is less then the North East US. Otto you will love it and wish you had moved there thirty years ago. And you can buy beer in a 7-11 store, now that is great. Cheers, Pat |
Re: Thinking of moving
What do you guys think about Stuart, as compared to Jupiter area?
|
Re: Thinking of moving
As you know Otto,I have spent alot of time in W.
Palm area there is alot going on there. I checked out Stuart last year, lot of $ around, but it seems to be a much older area and not quite as much going on.I was only there one day so i could be wrong, but from what I saw I like N.Palm,Jupiter,West Palm area much better. Doug |
Re: Thinking of moving
I am going to be looking at the Destin area next month,I does anyone have any input,on how it may compare to W.Palm,Jupiter area?
Thanks Doug |
Re: Thinking of moving
Doug,
I spent a week in Destin last year. It has without a doubt the most beatiful beaches in Fla. I've spent a lot of years all over Fla. and Destin ranks right up there with Marco Island. Of course Marco has the Ten thousand Islands at there back door. At one time the best place in the world to fish for Reds and Snook. God I miss that state. |

Re: Thinking of moving
DO NOT MOVE TO FLORIDA. THE LAST THING WE NEED IS MORE NORTHERNERS DRIVING UP REAL ESTATE VALUES, AND CROWDING OUR HIGHWAYS. I HEAR ALASKA IS NICE THIS TIME OF YEAR.
|
Re: Thinking of moving
Actually, I think we've narrowed it down to Sarasota.
We ARE willing to pay too much for real estate and drive in a slow, confused manner without signals of any kind. Our arrogant demeanor is only outweighed by the size of our Mercedes'. The only problem we have with the area are the redneck Rebels who got their boating cetificates (or Captains Licence) at Super K-Mart on a Blue Light Special. They know only one speed in traffic and have no clue what their huge wakes do to folks not out for a Ye-Ha experience. Oh ya, don't ever wave to anyone, cause they might think your actually friendly... |
Re: Thinking of moving
Otto, I just read your post and let out a huge Homer Simpson DOOOOOHH! You got me with the Sarasota thing. Of course if we could get all the bayliner people to move to the great lakes and all of the SeaCraft owners to move to FLA life would be grand.
And yes, you are always welcome to Sarasota. I would be happy to assist you and your family in any way possible. |
Re: Thinking of moving
Brian,
Of course, I was only kidding. But you're right about the Bayliner types. As you know there are NO SeaCrafts up here (well, my 2 anyway). We're still looking at Palm Beach / Martin Counties. I appreciate your hospitality and if nothing else, we'll get together someday to discuss the 4 chick theory... |
