Jason,
Scratch my boat off the list, we're just not going to get the trailer work done in time. I'll be there, but my father and brother won't be joining me.

Jason,

My boat will not be finished. I'm back at glass work due to the Yamaha side mount.

I got final confirmation of my no show status, I'm on the work schedule this weekend starting at 5am. I gave the old tow vehicle(1976 Blazer ) a tune up and ran it hard down the highway and don't think theres any way it would survive the road trip anyway, great for three miles to the ramp but not a long haul vehicle for sure. Thankfully I can slip away and fish in the evenings(every ) or my summer would be all work. I hope the weather is good for the weekends festivities.

We are goig to look pretty funny...all 15-20 of us wearing classicseacraft.com shirts in a 25 Contender Rafted up to a 23 Mako with 2 unfinished 20's in tow and JohnR's 23 in tow as well ( not due to it being incomplete buit because he buirned 130 gals of fuel crosssing the big pond "Narraganset Bay")

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

I might be able to limp down on one engine if I can:

Get the wiring done - Rain and a son out of DC (again) has me behind schedule
Intall elecs:
Tune up (s)
Fix laundry list
Lights
Seats (nah - don't need no stinkin seats)
Rope
Flares & PFDs

Forget about cleaning it or putting back any of the teak - if she shows up it will be with the stbd motor ass up in the air and grease marks on the sides (but we'll get the biggest fish)

One 235 and a 235 kicker motor

Wow,
John R. seems pretty confident he is going to get the "big fish" of the event, even on one engine, the thing is he is probably right....

Sheeeeeeeeeeeiit...who cares what you show up in. Christ, if those cubans can rig a 51 Chevy and make it 100 miles acroos the ocean, I would hope that some of you could at least rig up on old fiberglass bathtub with A Suzuki 140 on it and a few Seacraft decals and come flying in to Newport harbor!!

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

We're still way behind schedule for Saturday but there is still a 20% chance she'll be there dirty and stinky and all - Otherwise I'll be arriving in a Green Silverado ...

Got 90% of the wiring done, half of which is temporary pending not know what engine will be on it in 2 weeks , got a bunch of parts due tomorrow afternoon, got a few things to rig up still - Radar / Ducer / Radio. Fire up the motors and maybe Saturday morning do the Sea Trial then make the shin dig in the Seacraft or the Silverado

Hey John R-

Wire up the radio, a bilge pump or two, and one engine and forget the rest of the stuff till after the gathering. Just make sure you have lots of bait and your TOWBOAT US memberhsip is up to date.

Don't ask where I went on my maiden voyage last year after I brought the Mako home from Florida.....dumbest thing I ever did.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">OK - what did you do? Go out the mouth of the Merri on a moon drop with a hard east wind ?

~!~ What recommendations do people have for keeping &$@$%# WASPS out of the hull ??????

Ed 08-08-2003 12:30 AM

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

The best way to keep wasps out of the hull is to USE IT.

On a moon drop with an east wind blowing, I stay up river...thank you, very much. Call me chicken, but during those conditions the Merrimack River inlet is very bad....add a ground swell to the equation and it is absolutely insane.

Ed and I will be on his boat and will be monitoring 72 if that's the channel. We're meeting at the boat ramp around 9:30 and will meet up with Jason shortly thereafter. We were going to fish before hitting the Jazz Fest, but we won't be down there early enough to make it worthwhile. My cell # is 781-264-3982. I have Ed's cell # but don't want to post without his permission.

Scott & Ed - have room for one more? Another day and I might have been ready, almost certainly two days and it would have been doable.. Had we just had better weather for the past 2 weeks....

Anyway, Ed & Scott if there is room, I know where the bass WERE earlier in the week

John,
If you know where the fish are (or were) I'm pulling rank on Capt. Ed and inviting you myself!

Ed - sorry man, but if he knows the scoop, he's in! Just kidding. He'll be calling you shortly to see if there's room.

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

Hey John-

You're definitely welcome to join Scott and I on my boat. We'll be meeting at the boat ramp tomorrow am around 9:30. My boat is a Mako 231 with "trident" painted on both sides of the console.

I checked over my boat today and everything checked out a-ok, except for the damn gas gauge. I'll just top of the tank before I splash her.

I also picked up two bags of fresh herring and they are in the cooler on ice.

JASON- what would you like me to bring to the Mako gathering tomorrow? BEER, DOGS, BURGERS, HERRING or should I just catch a tuna and throw it on the grill????????????

Anyone know what the weather report is tomorrow for Narragansett Bay? I am wondering if I should bring my bow dodger????

Oh yeah....my cell phone is 617-816-6981.

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

Ed - sounds good - will pick up a couple things to bring in AM - I just tried your cell before seeing this message - couldn't hear ya...

I can bring an extra fuel guage too (I have 25 or so )

Ed 08-08-2003 08:34 PM

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

Hey John-

I called you back but got the answering machine or voicemail.

As I said, you're very welcome to join us.The more the merrier.

Do you know marine weather report for tomorrow in the bay??? Wondering if I should bring my bow dodger.

if you dont mind, bring one of your extra fuel gauges. I might take a minute during the Jazz Fest to swap it in to see if my gauge is broken/dead or if it is the sending unit/float in the tank.

See you tomorrow at 9:30. I only need to make one pitstop on the way down...pick up some Yamalube or equivalent at Toni Marine.

Re: Newport 8-9-03 List of people

Hey John-

I'llbring the dodger.

As far as gear is concerned, this is what I have but feel free to bring your own rods & tackle.

2 Penn trolling rods with 45lb leadcore
1 all Star spinning rod 12-20lb with Penn Spinfisher reel
1 St Croix 9wt fly rod & Reddington Reel

I also have assorted flies, a couple of packs of red 12/0 circle Diachi hooks, 1 Large Red tube, 2 small black tubes, Slugos, those crazy shad lures, assorted lead, white parachute rig, one hoochie (maybe), spool of 25lb Flourocarbon leader, a few poppers, and a bunch of other lures and crap. I had a beautiful all black shad umbrella rig but that got sacrificed to the rock gods in the Merrimack River last week

Bring whatever you want. I have room to store stuff.
