Potter Bracket
I just got my new "Potter Bracket"
I will be painting the bucket to match the boat's hull color and then it will be mounted after the transom inclosure. Hats Off and many thanks to Mr. Potter for such a fine design and outstanding craftsmanship and Don Herman at Hermco for a fast and speedy delivery http://img34.photobucket.com/albums/...k/BRACKET1.jpg http://img34.photobucket.com/albums/...ck/bracket.jpg |

Looks Good Chuck! It looks warm too! (grumble, grumble grumble!)

Re: Potter Bracket
Hey Chuck,
Do they make a bracket that will fif an O/B?? I don't want to fill in the transom beacuse we do alot of diving. The motor is mounted on some funky bracket that looks like a jack plate. I like yours better. Let me know please. I'll post a pic wen i get home. |
Re: Potter Bracket
This bracket is for an OB. Seamark also makes a transom/bracket enclosure with a door for your diving. It will fit right in your existing cut out.

Re: Potter Bracket
BP...
Quote:
That bracket is for an outboard....and B. Potter builds a version with a "transom closing system" that has a "small gate" to walk through to the bracket. This version of the Seamark bracket "hangs" in the notch so to speak ...then bolts to the transom. Look on Don's website and here are some of his pictures where you can see what I'm talking of .... http://www.hermco.net/images/door.jpg http://www.hermco.net/images/ladderdoor.jpg Chuck .... You must be happy !! Edit: Oops ....must have been distracted while postin' and chuck got to ya first |

Re: Potter Bracket
Hey if you want to see a Potter bracket up close come by my shop. It's a double but you get the idea.
Hi Chuck ...it looks great and you got the better covers too!! Just don't let it sit there on the side of this house cuz there are a lot of CSC guys who know where you live and....... Bill |
Re: Potter Bracket
Capt Chuck
That Lab, aka Hooper, has become such a PITA on the boat that unless my wife and I are beaching the boat for a day of sun n' fun, I have to leave him behind! One day last spring while jigging bass off Hyannisport, he kept going over the side. We were right in a fleet of about 20 boats and finally I just left him overboard and we slowly jigged with him bringing up the rear. When I thought he was wore out we dragged him back in the boat only to lose him over the side yet again in the blink of an eye! Re: Potter Bracket
That is one nice looking piece of fiberglass work Capt Chuck. What size engine is going on it? Is the swim platform 6' or wider? do you expect to get any more boyancy with the bracket then with your old set up?
Strick |
Re: Potter Bracket
I'm going to remount my single 250hp. Approx 410 lbs of bouyancy is associated with the single. The swim platform is 27" x 72". I turned it over so you can see the bottom.

Re: Potter Bracket
God that is so beautiful.... such wonderful curves and a nice big backside Ohhh baby I think I am starting to get aroused
Thanks Capt Chuck Strick |
Re: Potter Bracket
I painted the Bracket to match the hull using Signature Finish "Ice Green". The pictures show as a much darker color. Anyway, it's now ready to be mounted once the transom has been inclosed.

Re: Potter Bracket
Capt Chuck Who is going to fill in your transom?
|
Re: Potter Bracket
I'm leaning towards Wildfire Marine here in Stuart as unlike several members, I'm not structural/fiberglass savvy at all
|
Re: Potter Bracket
Capt,
how do you like Signature Finish? |
Re: Potter Bracket
Signature (LINK) is a very forgiving 2 part Acrylic Urethane Enamel paint. It requires No Primers, you can Brush, Spray or Roll it On. Apply Multiple Coats in one day, apply it Out of Doors, No Waxing and best of all it is easily Repairable
I did my entire boat over 12 years ago and it still is holding up It has battle scars but I touch up here and there. I also used the Honey Teak after fighting the wood upkeep nonsense for years Here's a couple of photos. My hull was that mustard yellow originally http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/CSteele/res8250.jpg http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/CS...rbow.sized.jpg |
Re: Potter Bracket
Capt. Chuck, how many bolts will it take to mount the bracket to your transom, and who will perform this operation? I just posted, in the "Performance" section, two questions on a Gil Marine bracket that I hope to mount on my 20' SC...I would appreciate your comments, if you have any, on my post. Thanks, aaf

Re: Potter Bracket
aaf
I don't know exactly but my best guess is between 20 to 25. I hope Don @ Hermco sees this post and he can tell you for sure as he has installed a few of the Seamark Brackets. |
Re: Potter Bracket
Thanks for info - aaf

Re: Potter Bracket
Hi aaf,
My bracket took 4 in each chamber (12) and 2 under each platform (4) and lots of 5200!! It doesn't budge Bill |
Re: Potter Bracket
Capt Chuck-
That boat of yours has to be one of the nicest originals I've seen on this site. Good job on the paint choice. Strick |

Re: Potter Bracket
Hey Generaider, we need to compair notes. I have the same boat and bracket, thought I have no time to work on mine.
I am curious to know what the boat is at the water line at the stern and what you did with the scuppers? And was yours a single or twin i/o? Mine was a twin, not that it means much at this point. |
Potter Bracket Update
Ok, I'm finally getting the transom transformation rolling. I had to wait for that darn CSC member named "Mark" to get his boat finished so I could start mine
Here's some updated photos. I thought my transom was pretty solid as there was no flex even thou it was bleeding a little at the cap, But as you can see, it was definately time for a makeover I feel that if it was not for the amount of glass in the engine splashwell and baitwell holding things together, the transom would have had to be replaced years ago I will be taking more pictures as I go http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-045.gif All hatches / Rocket Launcher, Trim tabs etc were taken off. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../stripped1.jpg The Motor was then de-rigged and removed. Notice the water weeping out of the holes of the trim tabs and cap piece... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/motoroff.jpg The Engine well, side buckets and the Transom were cut out. Look at all that black wet wood http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/Cutouts1.jpg At least 30lbs of mush and wet stinky wood filled the trash can http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...lbsWetWood.jpg Inside the Transom. You can see the where the wet wood was against the glass http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...somCutout3.jpg Starboard Inside http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Starboard1.jpg Port Inside http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...back/Port1.jpg This was the biggest piece of solid wood found but it was still very damp. Notice the hole dead in the middle behind where the engine mounted. I had filled it in around 1986 when I replaced the original 1979 200hp. Go back a few pictures and you can see the white Marine Tex held up and kept that section from water intrusion. Originaly this hole was the overflow drain for the molded in floor baitwell as this boat was rigged for twins from the factory http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ck/WetWood.jpg |
Re: Potter Bracket Update
Chuck,
Glad to see things moving along. Looks like Riley is helping out too. |
Re: Potter Bracket Update
Chuck are closing the transom and cutting out the well? What did you do with the cap, cut the back quarters off?
I am still trying to figure out the best way to do the Vette's transom withougt too much cutting of things I want to keep. The SF was a piece of cake, room galoor. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...l/Transom2.jpg |
Re: Potter Bracket Update
Chris, I hope this answers your question?

Re: Potter Bracket Update
I got chuh. I need to do some figuring cause I need seating back there and I am not sure if I want to loose the well or go over top and leave storage. I really don't need the transom wells, so I may cut them out too.

Re: Potter Bracket Update
Chuck-
Looking good there. Brings back not so distant memories. Looks like you are pretty far along. Keep the pic's coming Strick |
Re: Potter Bracket Update
Chuck,
As I have said more than once in the past - your boat is in the right place for the redo, you will be happy with the finished product |
Re: Potter Bracket Update
I forgot you were down chuck- looks like you are moving right along though!!! One of these days Im going to have to stop fishing and do the total thing like you "true craftsman" on this board do. keep sending the pix!!!!
bte- love that 2nd "waterborne" shot in your first post!!! |
Re: Potter Bracket
Here's some more pictures of the work at hand as the transom transformation saga continues
New fiberglass floor drains were constructed and glassed in. Also you will see a glassed in hose bib. The transom mounted rod holders and the two transom side boxes will drain into the floor self bails vs out the transom or side. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rdselfbail.jpg Notice how much bigger in diameter and higher the self bails will be than the originals. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ailoutside.jpg The two 3/4" pieces of marine ply have been cut and epoxied together. It then was notched to align with the 13 degree angle of the transom so the baitwell's outer back wall will fit flush in the inside. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ansomlayup.jpg After mounting, the new transom is glassed inside and out. Notice the vertical Knees and Parallel support. This new transom is solid now! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...glassedin1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...glassedin4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...glassedin3.jpg Fiberglass drain tubes will be inserted and glassed in later http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...lelsupport.jpg Old holes are ground and glassed. The next step will be a lot of faring. Notice the top cap has been cut straight. a new lip will be formed to align the new transom cap and rub rail. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...glassedin1.jpg Yes my boat too used to be that nasty mustard yellow http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...glassedin2.jpg |
Re: Potter Bracket
Capt. Chuck,
Looks terrific! You're over the hump. Nice project considering the bandwidth you're using... Hope to see the finished product in person sometime in Feb. |
