Re: HOW FAST IT TOO FAST???
Here's the story from another site:
Anderson resident John Montgomery had his new boat on Hartwell Lake Thursday afternoon when things took an unexpected turn. The 42-foot speedboat ended its journey in a grove of trees with its stern on the ground and its keel split down the middle by a tree that cut through the bottom of the boat. Mr. Montgomery made a turn in the boat that caught him and his passenger off guard as they traveled near the Asbury Park boat ramp off Centerville Road. The sudden turn threw Mr. Montgomery and his passenger into the lake. But the boat kept going, state Department of Natural Resources spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough said. "The boat just shot up on the bank," he said. "The tree cut it down to the windshield. It almost cut the boat in half." No one was seriously injured, the wildlife officer said. He said Mr. Montgomery was issued a ticket for negligent operations. Lt. McCullough said Mr. Montgomery had the boat about five days and still was trying to learn how to use it . The boat’s kill switch, which should be hooked up upon launch, was not turned on that afternoon. If on, the switch would have cut off the boat’s motor when its passengers were thrown out. |

Re: HOW FAST IT TOO FAST???
Ha Scott;
I’m glad you posted the article I was a bit concerned posting pictures with out knowing if any one got killed in this accident. I’m glad no one got injured but it looks like his guy had more Dollars then Cense. I whish these guys new something about boats before they buy one that goes 100 + MPH. Maybe the insurance co. can find a way not to pay the claim for the boat damages and not insure these guys in the future. That would slow down some of those RPM’s. I know must guys like to open up there boats every once in a while but this sound like show boating in front of the ramp to empress the crowd putting in their bass boats for a fun day on the lake. Re: HOW FAST IT TOO FAST???
How fast do you think the boat was going when it hit that tree?
|
Re: HOW FAST IT TOO FAST???
I don’t know but looking at how far the tree went through the boat and how far the boat went up the side of the hill I bet it was faster then trolling speed. My bet he opened her up to full throttle after all why do you buy a boat like that fore???

Re: HOW FAST IT TOO FAST???
According to a member of Classic Whaler, he is a mutual friend of the driver of this Fountain. Both occupants were unharmed when thrown from the boat. Driver claims "I trimmed it out, then throttled up and the boat took a hard right. They think the trim tab switch stuck." Huh?
It gets better. $375K, not one payment made, and insurance on a binder. AND, this was his SECOND Fountain! First one sank off Destin, Fla. and insurance never paid out because location was outside the color-reg lines and he did not know that his coverage ended there. It should be noted that his safety lanyards were not hooked in either. Now that's an expensive day on the water! |
