I second the WOW.... I have a couple questions.. were did you get the plastic recessed area for the gauges and the neat little one for the switches. I have the same switch panel and would like something simular. Strick |
Re: test
Everything is custom, including the one-off console by Wildfire Marine. The plexi hatch for the electronics in the dash as well as the back door to the console with integral recessed switch panel were done by Fantastic Plastics in Stuart, FL.

Re: test
Hi Mark! The console is beeeeautiful!!!!! I bet the boat is too. I'm working on my console layout right now so I'm envious Mine is half painted right now so it is going slow!
Looking forward to the rest of the pics. I didn't realize you were moving to FLA. Welcome! Bill |
Re: test
I am in awe! that is very nice. great job, a lot of details that I can recognize....
did they run out of Acorn nuts at Edson? |
Re: test
Mark-
Very nice job.....I concur with Tom, You are killing us with that "ghetto" nut. |
Re: test
I think Capt. Chuck dug a few of those up
at the Dania flea market we were at |
Re: test
I had the polished nut all along, sadly Mike couldn't find it until the day after the photo was taken. The fly rod racks go in tomorrow morning and then off to the insurance man before going splash.
Prior to going for a ride in Tom's Whitewater, I had planned on going with a normal console and electronics box up top. However, after seeing how much better the visibility was without that box up in the t-top, the new console was drawn out from scratch to hold the electronics all in the dash - thank goodness for the ride in Tom's boat (with what I believe was a SeaVee console?). |

Just can't bring myself to post the whole sequence prior to it being "right" - sorry, a downfall of being a photographer.

Re: test
Mark, very nice. Seeing that almost gives me incentive to get back to work on mine. Though I am still in a state of recooperation since my last project. I may very well be on '06 list.
Shoot me off some more pic's when you get a chance. |
Re: test
mark thanks that boat looks absolutely stunning, Cant wait to see the whole batch of pics. Ill definitely be taking my 20 to wildfire for a little reconstructive surgery. By the way you said the console was made by wildfire, can i buy the same console from them? Thanks again-Ryan

Re: test
yeah, he built a mold for it. mine was console #01. Fantastic Plastics did the back door and dash work (Bluesea Systems switches in that little window).

Re: test
Mark
Where is the photo of the other 20 restored to better than new? Like your project in scope anyway. It was finished off in the seacraft pale yellow, black boot stripe and they talked about the raised Seacraft decal as in what is used today. I wanted to revisit that project.....and I can't remember where on the website it is. Any help, anybody. Congrats to you both, both projects are the best I have ever seen. -sean |
Re: test
Sean,
you might be talking about Hammer's 20' boat- it's on the homepage at http://www.classicseacraft.com/hammers20CC.htm Beautiful, and quite an inspiration. Steve |
Re: test
That's the one....thanks.
Well worth revisiting. Did that boat get awl-griped all over? I was told you should not use Awl-grip below the waterline? Any truth to this? Hammer's 20 is another beautiful piece of work. -sean |
Re: test
2 days sitting in the water, you will be safe to Awlgrip the bottom. If you plan on it being in the water longer use bottom paint. Don't Awlgrip the bottom and then put bottom paint over it.
Excert from Fl Sportsman forum. Dunk is a Marine Survayer I've seen Awlgrip blister several times. About five years ago I surveying an older glass Trawler that had been Awlgriped from the cabin roof down. The boat was mint and had been bottom painted. When the was hauled the bottom looked like it had chicken pocks. The biggest blister was maybe the size of the dia of a pencil eraser, most were a 1/3 that size. At first sight I'm thinking some kind of weird gelcoat blistering, so I started popping a few of them where the bottom paint had come off the surface. What came off was paper thin and you could pop each one with your finger nail easily..and the gelcoat was fine under each. Then it dawned on me it was Awlgrip under the bottom paint. The boat being a 8-9kt boat didn't move fast enough to tear them off, but if it had been a 30-40mph boat it probably would have stripped most of the Awlgrip off there were so many of them. I mean we're talking 1000's of little blisters on a 28ft boat.. After I figured out what was going on and explained it to the buyer he bought the boat with a nice price reduction because of it. He told me a few weeks later that his marina stripped most of the Awlgrip off the bottom with a pressure washer right to the waterline. The rest came off with a little soda blasting. Fresh coat of bottom paint and the boat was fine.. |
Re: test
I find it hard to believe that using Awlgrip and similar paint systems underwater is bad. To me it is the surface prep that caused the problem. I have built over 60 boats in my life and many were painted top to bottom with similar paint systems. I have seen bad prep work cause blistering, but not the choice of paint.
Just my opinion. Bill |
