Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Myself and gary (Knot Working) were talking yesterday about maybe trying to put one together for maybe sometime in the fall between maybe thanxgiving and christmas if there is any interest??? Art from airtime watersports put one together a couple of years ago and even though i was sick and couldnt fish thought it went pretty good. maybe have a capns mtg at bubbas restaurant again or something similar??anyways there are a heck of a lot of seacraft owners in tidewater here and thought we would gauge interest and if there is enough try to put something together simple, easy and fun.(all seacrafts) lemme know !!!!!thanx- craig

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Sounds good, I've got about 3 dozen Mann's stretch 25's I need to get in the water! I find them every where I turn. My glove box, the cooler I haven't used in a while, the tool box....
|
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Sounds good!!!! Never fished in a tournament. But i would like to see what us seacraft owner can put in the boat. My outriggers are ready and the braid is already spooled.

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
I know of at least 6 boats now that will fish- will see what i can do about some more this week. i guess we will need on a consensus for a date???

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
I think my father in law wants me to get in on this.
He is sending me your threads from Tidalfish Craig. If he goes with me I will try my best to take part. I have been lazy and I have not got my rub rail put back on so, I have not been able to get out just yet. Also, we, my father-in-law and I will be out of town Thanksgiving weekend. So, we are out that weekend. |
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Welcome up Jetro! Seems a couple others dont like the thanxgiving date either. I would like to see everyone participate that wants to, thanxgiving doesnt have to be the date, heck we can do it any weekend in december, the week after christmas when a lot of people are off- heck I dont care. This is to be a tourney for you guys as well as me, so please forward or post any ideas. I went through a list of people on the csc owners board from a while back and am not sure some of the guys check in any more. (Bay-Runner 1973 20' c/c from mechanicsville- you still out there??? Hotline from Poquoson 23 c/c, waterlaw and charlie Y??? any of you guys know these folks could you please pass the info on???
I was trying to come up with a format but want you guys input. maybe lines in 7am and out at 2pm?? then maybe theory mtg afterwards??? (maybe hold one the day before with a captains mtg also???) entry fee??? one prize for biggest fish, or stringer, or a 1rst through 3rd??? A kids division??? Lets here some ideas and I can do some legwork(in between speck fishing trips of course) craig |
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Does not have to be Thanksgiving weekend for me either. I'll try to make it regardless of the date
|
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
I'm wide open as far as the date goes. As far as prizes and such, I think keeping it simple, i.e. biggest fish wins, would probably be the easiest route, what about ya'll? 7-2 sounds good for a time frame. Any other opinions welcome guys!

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
I agree with Doghouse - keep it simple. Should be fun and not a lot of work for anyone..

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
The week of Thanksgiving is a nightmare!!!! There is a couple tournaments that week. But any day in November or December can be busy depending on fishing. As far as time I think if you want to beat the crowds maybe 5:00AM- 4:00PM for those who don't mind getting up early and want to make day of it. As far as divisions only 2, heaviest fish and something for the kids. You've got to have something for the kids. I don't really have a suggestion for a ramp but i will use lynnhaven, rudee, willoughby, dont really care for cobbs but i will put out there. Only ramp I've ever been stuck on. Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
I like the way you guys think- i am not into a lot of stress- thats why i want to keep it simple as well (simple is as simple does?lol). I like the idea of largest fish takes all and a kid division biggest fish takes all. I kinda like the 7 to 2 deal because of the darkness factor- gets light around 7 and dark at five . Too many people have problems with thanxgiving so we can rule that out. I made up a spreadsheet with boats/names etc today at work and forgot to bring it home, will do it tomorrow. as far as places to put out , i prefer lynnhaven only because i dont have a trailer and leave my boat in the water but I am game for anything. what about after tournament beer theories??? and maybe a captains mtg theory session the night before??? lol- ill check back in tomorrow and let yall know how many boats we have. looks to be 11 or 12 with the potential for at least a couple more. see ya- craig

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Have picked up two more boats this weekend- more updates coming tomorrow. I am getting a list of all seacraft owners I know of both for the tournament and any future events we might want to try and put together,)still working on the details- will post an update on dates times etc. tomorrow. It looks like we have around 14 boats so far From some comments Ive had so far the weekend after thanxgiving looks pretty good (how about you other guys?) Still trying to decide if top 3 fish or just 1 biggest fish wins all(another one I could use your help with) and i have received only one reply about a child/ division???Anyone else??) will post up later this week- hopefully we can finalize the details. craig

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Het guys/gals- I took the liberty along with a couple other guys to come up with some details, etc to get this thing off the ground- all comments good or bad welcome!!! Craig
Updated BTT- Got a few details now worked out- Tentative fish date - Dec 4th fish hours- 7am untill 2 pm early thirty to get fish weighed in by 4pm Blow Date- Dec 5th, if neither date works out then tournament is off and everyone gets their money back. Capitans Mtg - Friday 7PM tentatively at Long Bay Pointe Prizes are still TBD- either biggest fish or top 3 - consensus rulzs Entry fee- 20 bucks per boat Number of boats so far committed- 11 with 4 or 5 more probables? Still working out some of the details but should be a fun low stress kinda tournament- (unless my boat is still down) - |
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Sounds like a pretty good framework to me. I still say biggest fish wins, but whatever the consensus happens to be is cool with me
|
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Works for me..

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Already took that weekend off. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys. As far a kids, probably won't be any on my boat. I can't get my daughter interested but for the ones that are there should be something I think. I think I have put the finishing touches on the boat. Got my outriggers double rigged and bought 2 new shimano tld 25's. As far as a blow date we should'nt need it. Had my boat out in that ne blow and I was really impressed with the way it handled 4-6ft seas. Now I know why you guys brag about these boats so much.

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Craig, if you get time a list posted of these other boats would be cool, I new there were plenty of SEACRAFT's around but only see them once in a while. Count me in for December, but I will be leaving for Mich. on Friday and will not get back until Tuesday or Wednesday the 1st. I will be at the Capt'n meeting. Your doing a great job.

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Update-
talked to my new friend marina girl (dockmaster) at LBP marina yesterday and she was so kind as to allow us if we would like to have an after tournament little get together for some food and drink if you all like???(worrell brothers just went out of biz) I am willing to buy/cook/ bring a couple dishes and beverages for some seacraft shop talk and big head popping????( as well as giving someone some cash  . Post up what you think of this idea , I am certain with the big fish starting to arrive we will have a good time . And also I think we need to pray for "decent" weather- (after all this is a seacraft tournament )lol. PS- dont forget the World Championship Striped Bass Tournament is also taking place and you can sign up for that at the same place if you like- big money for a big fish!!! http://www.stripedbassworldchampionship.com/index.htm Hopefully we can make this a regular annual thing and get some of our other CSC'rs to come up/down and play in the "Rockfish Capital of the World"!! Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Little after party sounds pretty good, I can bring a few cold one's along and maybe a grill for some dogs and burgers.
Graham |
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Sounds good Graham, I will let you know-- we had 1 drop out today but picked up another classic and possibly 1 or 2 more.

Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Craig, I'm in Mich. at my Daughter's house (be back by the 1st)and noticed that you listed the date and place of Captain's meeting but no time. Fred Tyler per Capt'n Sam is in. The cook out sounds great, will there be dock space to tie one on, I mean tie-up? Let's keep the cooking simple with burger's and dog's and grilled Rock?
|
Re: Va.Beach SeaCraft Rockfish Tournament
Captains mtg at 7pm, sign-ups between 630 and 700- should be quick and easy. Dont think we can cook out actually at the marina- so I am looking at the cost of catering maybe some pollards chicken and/or carolina bbq. Talked to fred last night- hes in and may have another one. I doubt we will be able to take up much dock space, ill have to check(other tournament going on at the same time) maybe we can saddle up some boats if need be- sure some will be trailered also. I plan on only fishing till noon or so I can get the weigh-in/leaderboard/etc set-up in time. think its going to be fun- already having ideas for next year, lol.Happy thanxgiving to you and your family as well as all CSC'rs. (i need to borrow your wheel puller when you return too) craig
