Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Tom,
The Bert looks awesome!! Wish I could have seen her in April when we were down for the flea market. Oh well, maybe next year... |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V

Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
So this looks like the start of Classic Bertram site (CBs for short). I don't know but I might miss the red stripe...not The live well does have a CSC touch to it and it is obviuos that you have way too much spare time! Explain the name...does it mean something or is it your girls names reassembled?
Seriously the boat looks great as usual. I'm sure there are more than a few on this site that would love to take the "cousin" off your hands if you find you are using it!! Bill |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Sweeeet.
Is it wrong to spank it while looking at that boat??? Well done! |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Tom ...What year is she?
8V-92's? What kind of hours were on them .... and how are you doing with the rebuilds? Did you do anything with the interior ?? |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
WOW, great job! She looks fantastic. Sorry guys, I do love Seacrfat but the "B" has always been my weakness, would probably second mortgage the house for a 25' Flybridge with twin 4 or 6 cyl I/O's in good condition! Anyway, Tom I'm in Miami and ALWAYS available for a trip out (I'm free this Sunday??), I also either help with fuel or cleaning, sometimes both! Contact me anytime at colonpr@bellsouth.net. Congratulations!

Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Here is an interim shot showing some of the light sanding and bodywork I did when I replaced the salon bulkhead, built a swing door, and flush mounted/glassed in the freezer and bait prep station;
http://momentoffame.com/photopost/da...rimer1-med.jpg This shows the color scheme as well, probably should have glassed in the side portlights to truly modernize the hull, but the amount of work huge, and if we ever lose A/C its nice to have opening ports; http://momentoffame.com/photopost/da..._sep22-med.JPG This is a full rear view showing the new 1/2 tower, riggers, bluewater helm chairs, bluewater 130# chair, and new rail... http://momentoffame.com/photopost/da..._sep22-med.JPG The engines are 871tis, I will shoot some pics in the engine room, but basically its been gutted, faired, primed, and awlgripped the same snow white. Engines were painted snow white and entire boat re-wired. The rebuild included Airseps, airbox checkvalves, rebuilt trannys, bigger injectors/turbos, modern valvecovers, and all new engine harnesses/controls in 12V. I gained about 2 knots, but that includes prop work, bottom job, alignment, and the increased hp from the engines (435 to 485 / side). Cruise is 20-21 knots at 2050rpms. The Mathers Microcommanders got a new computer board with a synchro module which also helps efficiency. at cruise I burn 38 gallons/hour almost regardless of how much fuel/water is aboard. Fuel is 630 gallons, water is 300, but I have a 600 gallon/day watermaker so I never carry more than 100 gallons. With the watermaker we can do bahamas trips and wash the boat ea. day regardless of where we are. The interior is coming along slowly, gutted that as well, all new custom hand-built cabinets. The panels are all high-gloss maple, with cherry accents. Countertops are granite/corian with rimless corian sinks. Here is a shot of the entertainment center - 32" plasma flatscreen that can receive output from Navnet. You can use the Navnet IR remote and switch from radar to fishfinder to plotter and have it show up on the big screen or you can reverse and import the DVD or video signal into any of the Navnet screens on the bridge or the cockpit. There is a repeater in the cockpit and a set of engine controls on the stbd side bait prep station- I can bait fish or run the boat fromt he cockpit and see the fishfinder. On swordfish drifts, we can mark progress in the cockpit and chase the fish around backwards without going up top - good for shorthanded.... http://momentoffame.com/photopost/da...ogress-med.JPG Answers, the boat is a '74, and I am the 2nd owner. Generaider and I both know the first owner and have known the boats local history since almost when it was new. Engines had 5000 hours on them when I acquired the boat 13 months ago. We ran it for 3 months to see what we liked, and then started in on the project last Fall. I still had the yellow boat to fish/play while working on this one, and will keep both. The whitewater has 2000 hrs on it now.... Couldn't name the boat after any one single girl in the life, so...MArissa, SArah, DAna. 2 daughters and wife. reverse age order. IT means something else, but I forget... |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Beautiful work on both boats, I am extremely jealous. I would like to see some more pictures of your Whitewater. I also have a 25 but it is the cuddy version, 1986 hull. I am plannig some major modifications for the cabin this winter, it just takes up to much space. Nice job on the Bert.

Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Tom-
I am sorry I have not replyied earlier and I just noticed you emailed these to me a bit ago. Amazing work..... I love the nav net data in the 32" screen... Bryan A here is a page on Tom's Whitewater: http://www.classicseacraft.com/tomswhitewater |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Trayder, I know you've been busy! I'm sure there are hundreds of other cool things that the Navnet can do, I barely have time to read the directions on finding the on/off switch....I think it even has the ability to send NMEA to the microwave and emboss your Lat / long on the kids chicken tenders....

Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Hey Tom-
You never cease to amaze me. Masada looks great....I am amazed that it only burns 38gphs. Keep up the good work and post more pictures as they become available. Oh yeah...how the heck did you put 2000 hours on the Whitewater?? Engines holding up okay at your normal cruising speed of 60mph?? Talk to you soon. Ed |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Ed, thanks for the kind words....like most everyone else on here, this boat stuff is addictive and I can't get enough of it. I don't think I would ever do an extensive project like this again though, it becomes necessary to employ other people and you begin to lose control of touching all the pieces yourself. the refit essentially took Nov '03 to June '04 and that doesn't include the interior stuff thats going on now...
The WW is now over 3 years old (since rebuild) and it gets used at lease 2 times a week. hours add up. It sits on the lift in the florida sun, it gets washed religously, but never waxed. I have cleaned the O2 sensors, decarbed 3 times, changed plugs 4 times, replaced a stator, and blew out one lower unit, probably because the fluid was contaminated when the plug wasn't screwed in all the way allowing water to intrude. (my own fault). Changed the batteries from group 24 to group 31s w/ higher ratings after 2 years, but still run with just two. The boat needs new leaning post cushions and one of the saddle tanks has a leak somewhere in the feed line which will require deck removal. Only other replacement done was a sw washdown pump that stopped this year. |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Tom,
You never cease to amaze. Having seen the redo on the 25', I figured this one would be equally impressive and indeed it is. I had hoped to make it down there to see the Bertram sometime in September but the recent adverse weather has had me otherwise occupied. Very impressive work! |
Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
You can cut & paste that boat in my back yard anytime! Very pretty. Can't wait to see it in final.

Re: not a seacraft but still a deep V
Wow! Congrats on a great job so far. I cant imagine the mount of work that has to go into a project of that size. Makes may little 23 project seem so easy. Keep the pics coming please.
